Just experienced this at This Ain’t No Picnic festival. It was amazing. Music selection was out of this world.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: we need Despacio in every major city in the world. Keep it going 24/7. Before too long, world peace.
I remember the first time I listened to Soulwax and I nearly lost my shit. The same thing happened for LCD Soundsystem. To even be in their presence has always been a dream of mine. This takes it to a whole other level. I wish I could experience Despacio with James Murphy & Flying Dewaele Brothers...
Had the pleasure of going to the first ever Despscio show at Manchester International Festival and it was unreal. Can't believe that was so long ago and I'm still yearning to go again.
WOW ... this is an actual VIDEO !!! I've seen the photo online for years and years now, but never thought there was a video to it.
Experienced the Despacio soundsystem at All Points East festival. By far, far the best thing there. It was unbelievable, but what's more is that the vibe was lovely; people dancing and enjoying themselves, old and young. Oh yeah, and smiling. Perfect.
"The chef doesn't stand at the front of the restaurant and throw food at people."
This was great to watch, and looked like a lot of FUN!
We love you, James Murphy. The world desperately needs more people like you.
Experienced Despacio at iii points Miami. Phenomenal! Thank you for bringing back that “underground” feeling!
this is actually one of the coolest things i've heard about in a long time. they did a great job explaining their motivations and stuff.
Excellent ! Thanks for posting
Very similar to the thought that David Mancuso had in mind when he built the systems at the Loft. That moved into the garage experience and every great system since!
Just saw this bad boy at Coachella… I’m tryna figure out how they curate that much music how do they just nail it for hours like that
Finally DJ's that care about high quality audio.....
6:00 These guys understood everything that had to be understood in the music business...
I was at this years ago at Electric Picnic; we're still talking about it. Brilliant!
Great idea and impressive execution! Those mcintosh amps sheeeeesh
Love these three. Totally about the music and not the fame.
Cool to see something like this outside of the dub scene.
I hope soooo much that this will inspire more and more ppl to do similar things.. im 32 now, and feel like the audioquality in clubs and especially events is worse than it was in the late 90's. Sometimes it is good.. but its just so rare nowadays.
it's still nice knowing the song = ) thanks
Tomorrow evening in LND, cannot wait!!
Going to be at the Hammersmith Town Hall on the 19th. Can't wait! :)
Went on the Saturday. Breath of fresh air when compared to WHP and such. This is people who love music playing for people who love music. Its not about the money like with WHP.
Amazing. I have always been the guy looking around the dance floor and not up at the DJ. I have dreamed of being at a party that focuses on the sound and the people dancing rather than idolizing the DJ (as hip and talented as they are). Even though I live thousands of kilometers away from Manchester I feel one step closer to dancing on that dreamy dance floor. Thanks.
Can't wait to go on the 21st December gonna be epic!!
Seminal? Yip, was amazing, best night in years, quality music, amazing sound, got a sore neck from dancing so much! If you tour this, I'm coming to as many as I can.
Every speaker has certain characteristics (Thiele-Small parameters) which are used to calculate/design the box. There are numerous ways though, and shape and materials also play a role. I think that's what was referred to (in a very simplified way).
Love love what I see I have to hear the system lice and dance on the floor it’s the best high . Music gets me
Always 2 steps ahead. Great Idea. Great Project. Great.
MrWhitebread32 and 12 steps back ;)
balearic. keeping it classy and underground. LOVE IT! Big!
I'll take one! SICK! Bring it to NY we need some clean analog sound!!
Bravo! You guys rock..
they had mcintosh amps and 4 micro seiki dqx 1000 turntable with tascam mixer at the typhoon (beppe loda) gambara italy more than 30 years ago ;-)
Never been to Fabric myself, but played some semi-large venues with pro setup (mostly festivals with a temporary setup). But my dad has always been a speaker box builder, together with an audio engineer. I helped them out software wise. And I've never seen anything else than TF parameters being given by the manufacturer.. but it's possible they give out measurements as well nowadays..
If custom built, they calculated themselves imho, otherwise they just buy existing stack (amps+speakers)
Any idea if there's a mix from any of the nights? The Friday was pumpin'
amazing mans
HEAVEN
6.00 "There is a limit to how cool the three of us are at the moment." WRONG. No limit to how cool these guys are.
Radical
Cats 'N' Jammer Kids: Disco Drum, but it is an edit by DJ Roberto Lodola
the moxie edits man too good
Absolute fucking dons of the industry
So freaking excited that they will have their own tent at Electric Picnic! 6 hours for 3 nights. Heaven does exist on earth
+- - it really was wasn't it?
want to experience it again so bad
I feel sick just finding out about this
Nice socks, Dave ! :)
about at 2mins in this video he talks about DFA artists get $700 speakers...any lead on the design of those?
Is it possible to have a translation in french please so interested!
I want that
What song is playing in the background?!
Haha I used the same analogy about a chef and DJ's to my mum before this
We wanna know about the $700 monitors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
seconding that!
What's the song at the beginning? 0:29 ?
Eh, gonny come up to Glasgow with this? Please?
Looked up Despacio on RUclips to find this video and Despacito by Justin Bieber was recommended a whole heap of times 😂
The title of John Klett is "Despacio Engineer" and not "Despecio Engineer", I think.
sounds great. shame i can't hear what they're like :( maybe one day :)
It's about the quality of sound, not just the volume. 50,000 watts is pretty serious but it sounds amazing with no distortion. That's the hype :)
they use it at 30% max, that's when you get the great sound!
does anyone know anything about that 700 dollar monitor design he mentioned?
I'm not sure that this was the case. I quote 'I've done speaker box design in the past, I did zero math in this. You get a speaker and the manufacturer says it needs 1.84 c ft and a port of x volume and then you just make a box'
I dont know if you've ever been to places such as Fabric or Ministry, but I'd really hate to think that their speakers were just built on manufacturers recommendations, and that as you say some thought and thiele-small parameters were also considered
DJs came out because of the sound-systems and the high quality of amplified music records.
What's the song?
i think a lot of DJs care abotu high quality audio. is it affordable? thats the question....
how high is murphy's beard???
I don't think they're exactly complaining about big stages and festivals as a whole. I think they're complaining about festivals coming into the club environment....which I agree, to an extent. Clubs shouldn't exactly have the same concert/festival feel.
Does their speaker theory really revolve around what the manufacturer recommends? 'Just build a box with a port in it, it'll be great'
I wonder what all this costs... each stack is probably like 20K i'd guess, maybe more
+Wes B (Intrinsic) a pair of those Mcintosh amps is around 20k. Im guessing 60-70k a stack. I would love to know too.
it cost one million pounds.
unobtanium
name of the song in the background? =D
"disco drum" by the cats n jammer kids
I cant include a link apparently but if you google peerless 850136 and click on the top link that should take you to an example of a speaker that comes with recommended enclosure volumes/port lengths
And as per that chaps comment in the video you could build it with zero maths, so no, according to the video they didn't calculate anything
it's not all about the system man... did u watch the video??
I thought it said despacito soundsystem
Oh that? It's just a display cabinet for my knick-knacks. Let me just turn it on...
despacito on despacio 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Who cares about the cheap sad little shoe boxes some call monitors when you can hear something like this.
That's what I was wondering, with all the R&D that's gone on since forever sticking a driver in a simple box is some car audio type bullshit. Also that fucking tweeter setup is so stupid. I have no idea what's going on but it's shite, whatever it is.
This is Toytown compared to real sound systems. I suggest that anyone impressed by this overgrown hifi visit Funktion one.com
Eh..? There's nothing 'toytown' about McIntosh amps, the likes of top of the range 18sound drivers and good ol' reflex loaded cabs. It may not have the capacity to deafen thousands of people like a 50K F1 rig, but that's not why it's been built. Big F1 systems don't sound 'hi-fi' (I've worked with them), and compromise sound quality for efficiency/high spl and effectively covering LARGE spaces. This system is focused on sound quality, but obviously at the expense of efficiency etc. Does that make it any less of a sound system? I think not, it just serves a different purpose.
2 many dj's complaining about big festivals with big stages....
David Mancuso version 2.0
This is a just a McIntosh ad. Pretty slick gimmick marketing from McIntosh though. James Murphy is the perfect Pitchfork hipster electronic posterboy for those Gen Y hipsters who are probably just now moving into McIntosh's ideal income/life goals bracket as potential customers.
Too Bad James Murphy is GEN X raised by David Mancuso ( - hard eye roll - ) LOL!!
The crowd is sooooooooooooooo white !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what's with the thy hype of the soundsystem? it's a baby compared to some soundsystems
Because it's built and marketed by prominent artists
blah blah blah... where's the DEMO?!
so the whole "idea" is just a 100% David Mancuso ripoff
+Mychal McCurdy oh geez, someone has done something before better not do anything cool again.
Mychal McCurdy appears so. Thank god.
