Hi, here is your answer - We can shift the gears for plain road conditions depending upon the speed requirement.
We require more power (high torque) for hill regions due to driving against gravitational pull force. Such that we need to maintain between 1st to 3rd gear mostly... Because in first gear, we will get more torque which will be required in climbing hilly areas. Whereas in 4th or 5th gear, we will get more speed but not more torque.
