I got a question for you.
Could you do a therapy session on this Anime series Called sekirei I believe there might be some interesting characters In this anime series that could use an expert's opinion such as yours
Request for a new analysis series: Can you watch Inanimate Insanity and analyze some of its characters? Also if you do, please analyze MePhone4 and his trauma with Cobs.(Season 2) His trauma with Cobs was revealed in Hatching The Plan and Mine Your Own Business.
Some ideas:
Soap's OCD(Season 2)
Blueberry's depression(Season 3)
Paintbrush's IED(Season 2 and a bit seen in 3)
Steve Cobs' manipulation(Season 2, the first episode he was introduced in Theft and Battery, his manipulative nature was revealed in the episode Hatching the Plan and Mine Your Own Business)
Taco's manipulation and narcissism(at the end of Season 1 and throughout Season 2.)
Clover's ADHD(Season 3)
Of course if you find any other things about the other characters, you can cover that as well!
The reason I requested this is because I like Inanimate Insanity since unlike other object shoes, its not just directed to only kids and you can watch it at any age since season 2 is a bit emotional, especially Mine Your Own Business and Hatching The Plan.
Yeah ok Multiverse Female Homelander. I’m not trusting you.
@@midnightdeluxegaming6582 L , o , l , that's a funny one right there
Don't worry about not reading the comics, the show is drastically different from the source material to the point that the name is the only thing they have in common.
Butcher killed Ryan at birth in the comic.
And The Boys mostly have super powers a lot of the time
The show is miles better. The comic is shock just for shock written by a man who hated superheroes.
@@thatguyted4140There are elements of it from the comics that are cute and just as wholesome in the show. Mainly the relationships, like Hughie and Starlight/Kimiko and Frenchie. Comics as a whole suck, but I'm glad those elements are preserved in whole.
I mean I dunno... They are leaning toward the comic ending with the virus and Butcher turning on the crew....
I am the biggest Ryan defender. A lot of people dislike him and find him annoying, even getting mad when he didn't immediately agree to kill Homelander in the last episode.
I don't understand how people don't see his perspective. Mallory dumped all this information on him about one of the only people that he feels loves him and then immediately asked him to kill him, not giving him any time to process. Ryan even said that he might be willing, he just needed time to think about it.
And when he didn't immediately agree, Mallory threatened to trap him in the room, reminding him of what happened to his dad, which of course scared him as he knew how that turned out. So he acted out and threw Mallory out of his way. He definitely didn't mean to kill her, Ryan definitely doesn't know his own strength yet. No he didn't look remorseful, but he was in an angry state and wasn't thinking clearly.
So many people have said "how could he refuse to kill such an awful person? he knows now that his dad is a murderer and rapist" but those people forget that Homelander is his DAD. of course he's gonna have a hard time deciding whether or not to kill him, no one would want to kill their dad
I really hope Butcher is able to feel love for Ryan again. It seems like his humanity is gone at this point, but I really want him to care about Ryan again. Ryan really needs it because he has a heart. There have been so many instances of him trying to be good, but getting shot down because Homelander doesn't WANT him to be good. He needs a stable parental figure that will encourage his good nature, and even though Butcher is not ideal for that, he's better than Homelander
I can see both of them being justified, to be honest. Ryan killed in self defense while put in a vulnerable state, and that's understandable. But I can also understand Mallory's actions, in the sense that when the problem you're dealing with is a guy who took over the country, put it under martial law, and is rounding up people in concentration camps, manipulating and coercing Ryan into helping is quite justified.
@@tudornaconecinii3609 I agree that it's quite justified, still she went the wrong way about it. Not "wrong" in the "this is unethical and you shouldn't try this" but wrong in the sense that it just didn't work, and her foreceful attempt actually made things worse for everyone, included her, obviously. Even if it worked and they trapped the kid there... they still wouldn't be able to force Ryan to do anything, and having trapped him against his will would make him very reluctant to collaborate at all.
Nah, when he killed Mallory I didn’t feel bad for her at all. I don’t even like her
Better than homelander is not a very high bar to cross.
ryan was completely justified in impulsively killing grace. That was her fault. But the main thing is the seemingly lack of emotion after he killed her.
The fact that Rayan asked first about wanting to leave and process everything he heard, instead of combusting into violence straight away - hurts so much. He tried his best to negotiate, he wasn't turning down their proposal, he even said, that he will come back once he will thought it through. He wasn't asking for much, and yet :(
Yeah, Ryan is stuck in a "damned if you do; damned if you don't" situation.
The thing that hurt most about Mallory’s death is thats the most we’ve seen Butcher care about someone that wasnt Hughie, Becca, and Lennie and right before thats the most peaceful, friendly , and calm Butcher has been
Nah he’s going to have that last fight with the boys in season 5
@@syco9008Mallory?
Yeah but she kinda set herself up for it.
@@QUIROPTEROHOLLOWShe absolutely did, she made me very angry in that scene freaking Ryan out
@@QUIROPTEROHOLLOW In the comic Butcher fights and kills off a majority of the Boys in its finale. I was growing disappointed when Butcher started dying, as it would have greatly hindered the likeliness that it would have happened in the show.
Between a malignant narcissist and an alcoholic addict with anger issues, Ryan is NOT winning this that's for sure 😂

I think Homelander doesn't straight up unalive Butcher precisely because of Ryan. I think he wants nothing more than to be chosen and if he kills the other option he will never get to exeprience that voluntary, selfless affection that he never really got

Fun Fact: Anthony Starr, said that instead of working out for the role, they made him a body-muscle suit for the role of Homelander, in turn The director liked the idea so much that it cannon in The Boyz Universe, Homelander is also wearing a body muscle suit. This is the reason why he is insecure with his body in The Boyz by targeting A-Train.
Just imagine the weights Homelander would have to lift in order to grow muscle.
@Naptosis Honestly I don't think any weight would be strong enough for him.
I dont see the reason, we've seen him naked, and he looks great, but it is Homelander and he is a bottomless pit of insecurities.
@@Thatalbinodude I'm sure I'm projecting my own dysmorphia onto him (I lift heavy and often), but skinny Homelander is nightmare fuel.
I honestly feel like Ryan's gonna have to fight against both of them. Both are becoming more and more entrenched in their own heads and I don't see either of them really coming back from this after the last episode in S4. MAYBE Butcher could, but I think it'd be really interesting to see him pull away from both sides to be better than the both of them.
Love this take!
I'm not glad Mallory died, but god fucking dammit everything was going so emotionally good until she fucking freaked out
Honestly, if Grace let Ryan leave and come back on his own, he likely would have joined alongside Butcher...
for a second i thought she gave up on the cosplays, but she’s literally wore one of ryan’s outfits. subtle, but works. great job!
hehe yes = )) happy you noticed
What i really love about your videos is that you actually watch and enjoy the shows. You have context and do the homework. Other channels like expert react dont even give a basic context for the experts to understand and talk, just clips.
And the fact that you watch the WHOLE thing, not just clips with explanations
Thanks so much yes these are shows I watch and enjoy so it is a lot of fun to get to do an analysis of them
My hats off to you for changing outfits to align with the character your analyzing more directly per scene. It took me a good minute to notice you went from plaid shirt to leather jacket and what not! 🤯
Aww that’s cool ! I hadn’t noticed that either
6:30 "No means No, William 🤡"
Homelander, as a rapist, is the last person allowed to say that.
I’m so glad Butcher isn’t pushy. The writers and Butcher know exactly how not to treat Ryan. They even used Grace Mallory to display the outcome of pushing him.
7:31 This hit deep for me because it took me 6 years to finally read deeper into the way my mother emotionally swarmed me, but also the way her mother treated her. Thank you for doing such a good job explaining it.
Something that sticks out to me though and that hit me right in the feels at the end of season 2...becca was dying and just knew right to her core ryan was a good kid/human. Granted he is a likeable kid...but could u imagine being assualted and having a baby as a result...with a very high likliehood he could kill you at any stage accidentally...and raising him as well as she did? I love that they highlight that ryan isnt just good because he 'inherited' it from becca...she managed to parent him beautifully. That hit me so hard...that feeling that you just KNOW your child is good. And butcher started off thinking ryan was a freak...then got to know him and trusted him like becca did. Its tragic and lovely.
What I loved about Ryan was how he's shown to be in conflict in so many ways. He knows his powers are dangerous and hates hurting people, but he's beginning to understand what his father has been saying about how people will break because they're so fragile. I think that last scene with him looking down at Mallory is him starting to own that. He shows kindness but he also can be vindictive if he thinks you're an asshole and deserve it (scene with him 'helping' the assistant with the pervy director). He's a kid with so much power and him seesawing between being a jerk and being compassionate has been really interesting, and imo very realistic for a pre-teen. Kids can be kind and sweet...and cruel. Ryan is definitely on a precipice here and I'm so curious what he'll end up choosing for himself.
Homelander has the fracture mirrors, Butcher has Kessler.
The look on everyone's face (beside soldier boy's) when Ryan was on the ground...everyone knew that was wrong.
"I haven't read the comics!"
No, that's ok. That's a very good thing, actually. You don't need to do that, it doesn't exist anyway. Nope.
Homelander doesn’t truly love Ryan though, he loves the idea of Ryan, of having a son to mold in his own image to continue his legacy.
And Butcher doesn’t truly love Ryan as well, he loves the parts of Becha he sees in Ryan and that there is something left of her still.
They are both sides of the same coin for me, one isn’t better than the other.
Homelander's view of Ryan is similar to the usual Narcissist Parent's
Their children are merely extensions of themselves, not their own persons
In my eyes I feel as a reasonable person, if I was Ryan I would say screw them and basically leave them.
Homelander did care for Ryan but he did it for his own ego too. He didn't like hate Ryan, but while he did help Ryan master his powers he didn't do well with responsibility. Remember when Ryan was about to get hurt by Stormfront, and his retaliation costed his mother's own life? Or how Homelander he introduced Ryan to his father who wasn't the best morally wise Soldier Boy. I'm sure if Homelander wasn't there I'm sure Soldier Boy would've harmed Ryan. Another thing is that Ryan doesn't want to be Mini Homelander, which upsets him given how he is at his mental breaking point. He is so shocked his "Mini Self" doesn't want to be a super which makes him obssess over Ryan to no end. To be fair Homelander did care for Ryan, but it was a result of trauma too.
As for Butcher he did care for Ryan too but he isn't great at communication skills. Butcher has anger issues plus drinking problems as well as him only caring for Ryan in order to fulfill his late wife's wish. Remember the scene where Ryan is unable to reconcile and that costed Grace Mallory. In hinsight Ryan does care for both of them but in my eyes if the show wants to do it differently, perhaps Ryan should not be with both of them. Out of the two I would say Butcher could help Ryan but even then he isn't great at communication and plus he has the parasite. Of course his vendetta against supes is gonna clash with Ryan.
Overall, I imagine if I was Ryan I would simply leave them. Both of them are already losing it. Homelander is starting to become more hysterical he decides to take over the White House. Vought is no longer his sanctuary, and because he did a poor job running the company I expect his ego will be his downfall. Butcher on the other hand is possessed by a Parasite and now he is going to destroy every single super in existance. His health is already unstable so I don't expect him to help Ryan given his short life span. Overall, I feel whatever happens Ryan deserves a hug. I may not like him but he serves his purpose. Struggling to be a better boy and dealing with a narcisstic monster with an oedipus complex and a hypocritical martyr.
This video is exceptional. Easily the most engaging and insightful discussion of these characters I've ever come across. Thank you!
As someone with siblings around the same age as Ryan, I think he's actually quite well spoken and emotionally intelligent, moreso than the average kiddo his age would typically be. I find it disappointing how many folks are so hard on him, even though he's a character in a story. He's doing a fantastic job navigating his situation and the adults around him. He shouldn't have to, he's just a kid trying to survive, but he's doing good
6:31 When she's suddenly wearing a Homelander outfit, it freaked me tf out LMAOO
I love the discussion around this show! Frenchie and Kimiko are my favourite relationship in the show. It would be very interesting to hear your thoughts on those two.
Grace got me to 180 against her character in just that one scene and has gotten me banned off of one fan page so far for saying ryan was 100% justified in doing what he did
Ryan is a mess :P Homelander is plucking grey hairs and Butcher thinking he nearly dead. All 3 are acting badly together.
I think you hit the nail on the head. As Homelanders past trauma from his upbringing is not integrated he not only wants to be a father for Ryan, he rather want to be a father for himself, given that he sees Ryan as part him. This also shows merit that he wishes for Ryan to chose HIM, not Butcher as a role model, given that he's riddled with the self-instilled delusion of grandeur or obsession of being the perfect being. How could even a piece of him(Ryan) deny that he is not all what he should and intends to be?
I never thought I'd watch a show partly centralised around a custody battle of the ages.
"Because our own inner dialog is often negative and hurtful..." Well speak for yourself Dr. Dow, my inner dialogue tells me that I am perfect exactly the way I am.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan ended up going against both of them by the end
W Ryan cosplay 😂
2:12 One thing I love about Homelander; ya can’t say he’s a bad father, he turned his head on a room full of people who wanted or secretly wanted him dead, just to take care of his son….. give cuh his props🤧
I hate Mallory so much. Ryan almost definitely would’ve sided with Butcher if she hadn’t freaked out and dumped all that dirt about Homelander on him, and then immediately asked him to kill him. There is no way she could’ve thought that doing that would actually get him on their side.
One thing I really wanna see in the future is Georgia going over Azula from ATLA. A professional opinion on her would b interesting bc of how complex she is
Sadly mallory did more damage than good, had she done the same that butcher did and trusted ryans humanity would shine through things would have turned out so differently, mallory got herself killed and in the process got butcher killed as well as he disappeared into his other persona, got neuman killed and destroyed their one hope of defeating homelander
Or at the very least, made their fight against Homelander much harder
We don't see Ryan with Homelander at the end, he's definitely conflicted and is purposely alone because he doesn't know who to trust
A lot of people seem to forget Ryan is still a child. Mallory, in her state of panic, dumped so much bad information on a minor who is not emotionally mature enough to process that much information at once. I'm not mad at him. He already told Butcher he doesn't have control of his power. And shame on Mallory for trying to turn Ryan into a child soldier with no experience regarding violence and killing.
I love Homelander. I really shouldn’t. But. He is the last person to say no means no lol
The timing on this cut was brutally funny 😭
12:00
I hope to see an A-Train journey video and your analysis on him.
"I haven't read the comics"
Good. Don't.
She should
Nobody should
Why the negativity? Are they bad or is the show bad relative to the comics?
@@nateo200the comics are bad. They are just a 🍇 fantasy the whole time
@@nateo200 imagine edgy teenage kid watching Invincible and decided to make their own, but just the violence part.
I think Ryan being so empathetic means he's not going to join the fight at all (not to a fatal degree, at least, even if he has complicated feelings of resentment towards both of them) and will have to go through watching both of them destroy each other since they're both so subsumed by their trauma at this point and lose another 2 parental figures :(
Your costumes changes in this video are faster and more frequent than Clark Kent in the classic Superman comics, haha
What i find interesting, at least how i see it, is how Soldier boy and homelander wanted to raise their kids. Soldier boy wanted to raise homelander to be better than him while Homelander wants to raise Ryan to be just like him.
14:58-15:49 looking at you, Ginny. Say what you want about Georgia as a person, but she is a damn good mother. And then, when Georgia finally opens up to you after insisting you know the truth and she stopped lying, you want to vilify her even more.
Great video ! Love the effort you put into these
If homelander had a psychology degree before Ryans birth, he's be invinsible 😂
While Homelander instinctively protects Ryan, Butcher takes time to weigh things before his actions, both might save Ryan but only one does it instantly, their love isn't the same.
Botcher's love isn't unconditional in fact I don't think that he really loves Ryan, more like he's projecting his guilt over Rebecca's death, and trying to do right by her by protecting Ryan as long as Ryan stays in the "right way", as we sow in the season finally he gave up on the kid.
Homelander tries to bond with Ryan and do activities that he thinks Ryan will like because he likes it, he's trying to do his best ( and God knows it's terrible), I don't think he tries to manipulate his son, he's to dumb for that, more like he's teaching Ryan what he sincerely thinks is correct, instead of teaching Ryan about God the teaches He teaches that they're the God😂😂.
Also I don't know if the writers are doing it on purpose or not, but for what it was shown Ryan has no issues with people being hurt as long as he sees it as fair or as being protected/protect himself, as we sow when Homelander killed the man that threw a can at him, when he made the movie director be slapped and Mallory death
I believe the reason people give what they themselves want by default is, that we do not feel what another feels, just what we do.
Don’t worry about the comics. In the comics Ryan doesn’t exist. Becca is pregnant too in the comics but dies due to the baby killing her as it claws its way out of her, after which Butcher kills the baby.
I really like what they’re doing with Ryan in the show. It’s much more complex
Don't worry about comics, the fake story Vogelbum told Homelander in Season 1 is canon in the comics, where the baby killed Butcher's wife in childbirth and then choked on her blood
This show is DRASTICALLY different
Butcher is like Batman, he doesn't have any powers, but, still, he can easily take him down
(He can easily find out what Homelander's weakness is, and use it to destroy him)
I'm worried about the fact that Butcher is not in control. I'm pretty sure that Kessler took over. It may change the way Ryan will react, especially when Butcher may try to kill him because of Kessler holding the wheel at the moment.
Ryan can’t make a decision to save his life. I’ll bet by the time he decides in season 5 millions will have died while he was on the fence
Why are your videos and your voice so soothing to me? Georgia: Let’s talk about homicidal psychopaths! Me: Ah… Soothing…
HAHA i laughed so loudly at this thank you

OMG, you’re changing of clothes is understated and Amazing!! When I saw Ryan’s shirt is what got me 😂
I think butcher is more of a monster than homelander. Homelanders true desire is for love and affection. To be loved and to love someone.
He does horrible shit because of how he was raised and the whole being more powerful than everyone else gets to him. But again, he was raised this way. Tortured as a kid, literally. But just didnt die or show marks, but he felt it all.
Honelander also suffers from DID.
I honestly think that if you took honelander and he was able to have a woman and son he could love and they loved him back, he would shed his worst parts over time and maybe become more human again.
As for butcher, hes what his name is, a butcher. He cares about no one. He can make excuses and justifications, but through it all, he loves the violence and revels in the blood and chaos. Hes a monster, through and through. He will use anyone, do whatever he can to them as long as it gets him to the next step.
I actually feel bad for homelander, pitty him. I dont for butcher.
You should do a video on sister sage
personally i cannot see homelander as a true narcissist for he cares way too much about genuinity a fears losing people too much which is what ends up causing them to leave, ofc he has a astronomical ego but it was inflated due to vought and his whole persona supporting the concept but when it comes to narcissism to me feels unfitting and i rather see him as borderline person and i feel it makes a lot more sense for the character and rather his acts of grandiosity are not due to essence of being praised but a fundamental lack of self worth and a perpetual feeling of misery.
god i love this villain sm
PD: i also feel it makes more sense even from a genetic standpoint since we see similar traits of craving for acceptance in soldier boy’s which instead choses to put a violent macho facade to pretent to not be hurt by what others say.
id love to know your input on this!
I think theyre both going to lose. And Ryan will just end up hanging out with Hughie with the two of them just vent
Also I did end up watching all of Hellof a Boss episodes due to your videos, fantastic!
This was a really good breakdown.
0:33 now I haven’t read the comics but many people say that it’s VERY VERY different from the show. It’s pretty much just gore and sex for gore and sex sake. No story. Just a hatred of supers. So based off of videos talking about it, don’t read the comics
After Soldier Boy was knocked back once, Butcher could’ve switched focus back to taking out Homelander right after moving Ryan to safety
Homelander very much is the parental ideal of relying on your child to make you feel loved and important.
IDK if it has been talked about in this channel but what about Butchers multiple personality disorder? Because if you watched the season finale Butcher is no longer there, he allowed one of his personalities to take the reigns which doesnt care about Ryan, this is going to be heartbreaking for Ryan for sure, unless Butcher can snap out of it before doing something drastic to Ryan.
That’s a bit complex because in this case it’s a sentient brain tumor rather than a naturally occurring disorder.
@@rubyy.7374Kripke (the director) said himself that it’s not quite a living being but rather the embodiment of Butcher’s dark side.

6:32 w-wait when… I- when did… ok.
Don’t worry too much about the comics. The show stopped being 1-1 with it as early as epsisode 1, and they have since becomes something much better than the comic ever could be.
I kinda hate that people keep framing it like this. Ryan is probably about to go on a solo arc.
Can you analyze Shoya Ishida in the movie A Silent Voice. It is a really sentimental movie to me and I hold it in high regard as being one of the best movies in its category. Thank you and keep up the good work!
A triple cosplay! My favorite is the black leather, which suits Bad A** Georgia (Black Widow Therapist) to perfection! The saying about "sticks and stones" is educational. A stick or a stone WILL hurt if they hit you. You have no choice about it. But the saying teaches the lesson that you DO have a choice whether words will hurt you. Or not. I've never been a controlling person. Which means I've experienced a lot of long suffering. Something controlling and impatient people loath and work hard to avoid.
I hope I'm wrong about this, but I think you're too optimistic to think Homelander will/would take an hypotethical Ryan rejection very well. He's a narcisist, anyone choosing someone else before him is gonna make him blow up as he's done a lot of times before.
Hopefully he has actually grown enough to see that change in him, but I don't think Homelander is redeemable enough to get to that point. I really believe that he will never be proud of Ryan becoming independent if it means rejecting Homelander.
(This is of course taking into account, we're talking about fictional characters and not real humans haha it probably fits more the narrative to be that way, IMO, but in the end it'll be whatever scenario the writers choose)
“From now on no more rules” lasted as long as a cup of coffee
he meant others not his ... he thought Ryan would still follow him
You didn’t even show the Christmas Special that Ryan stopped
Yes I had that one the list as well.
May I recommend a new show for you to analyze: Netflix's Baby Reindeer. It is only an 8 episode show based on a true story of the main lead in the story (and in real life) is stalked by a woman who is mentally ill and stops at nothing to get to him. If you could break down the main leads character because I've known people like him and it is sad to see them going thru this pain. Thank you.

I think Butcher and Homelander will fight in Omni-man style, giving no shit about casualties, and Ryan will be forced to fight against both of them or some other greater threat in attempts to save lives, probably some shenanigans of Sage.
You should do a video on the new black noir
I feel like in Season 5, Ryan will get hit with the sup virus, then homeland will try to save him, but has to fight everyone with Soldier Boy
