This video makes me feel a little better. I've got a project truck going on that will be my daily driver when it's done, with a similar setup. It's an Avalance 4×4 with a 5.3 LM7 with a TSP 220R 600/600 cam on a 112 LSA, with 1 3/4" TSP LT Headers, PRC ported/polished 799 heads milled .025, a Yank 3000 stall converter, and 4.56 gears on a 6" lift with 35s. I've daily driven the truck for 8 years on the stock motor and stock gears with the lift, and I was excited to beef it up, but a little nervous that it'd hurt the drivability. This video helps.

I think it’s very hard for a cam to make a 5.3 hard to daily, especially such a small cam like the chopacabra, and then with tires that aren’t too big like 35s I feel like it makes the truck a really good daily especially cause you can drive without thinking about crappy roads

When I cam swap my auto cars. I always add a bad ass converter 3000 stall and up. And the cam duration is always 230s and up. That with a good tune and 411/456 gears is a blast. I never ever picked a small camshaft. Most people always want more cam and a bigger converter. 230s duration cam and a 3500 stall with 410s is where it's at.

I never did hear what your cam rpm range is. I’ve had a carbureted truck in the past that would not hardly run with stock tc. Increased stall is mainly to improve those load dynamics cause bigger cams don’t make much low end power so allowing that to increase won’t really be something you will notice but it won’t feel so sluggish when pulling away from stop signs. Allows it to spool up a little.

4.44 gears would probably be better for 35s, these 4l60es already have a terrible gear ratio

Only other two I remember guys talking about are 4.88s or 5.30s.

Once it got warmed up and I turned it off at the store or whatever and I would go to start it again I would have to crank it twice for it to start. I got it retuned and starts up every time but it sometimes stalls when backing up or coming to stop in 1st gear but I think that has to do with the fact that mines drive by cable

You still have stock gears? That’s one thing people overlook a lot but a more aggressive gear set up with those 35s it’s a night and day difference

My 2012 bone stock on 33s gets about 12 in town. Has an airfilter plugs and wires. Bone stock. Im going to a torque cam in it do delete the afm. Vvt i cant decide. Waiting on opinions from BTR. Richard H. Told me to go with that cam so i assume he meant delete both.

A stall would help keep it in the power range, but gears will help too

Did you have any issues with AC functionality after the cam swap? I got the truck norris cam, which is pretty much the same cam as the chopacabra put in my suburban, and turning the AC on at idle causes the RPM to dip to 200-300 and almost cause the engine to stall. Obviously the AC compressor can't kick on at that low of an RPM. My tuner said he can't fix that and now I'm left with a truck with an AC that only works when you're moving, which is impossible to deal with where I live. I'm so bummed :(((

Bro i have same issue have you fixed it?

@@aguirrem607 yeah, it was stall saver in the tune. Ask your tuner to disable stall saver by zeroing out the tables. It will work perfectly.

You need a Stall converter. That will solve that issue.. It will be a totally different truck. RESPECTFULLY..

Needs a stall, seems like it's over working normal take off. 2800-3000 should do the trick
