Originally, Bender was shown to be assembled at a factory as his normal size in "Bendless Love", as he recounted his origin there, he stated he was only 4 years old.
Yeah I also found the cartoon parodies hilarious. Not the normal formula but that seems a bit like calling a Treehouse of Horror episode mediocre because it doesn't have the same structure as a normal classic Simpsons episode.
I think the episode will go on to hold up somewhat poorly though, I'm on the younger end of this show's audience (17) and while I did grow up with scooby doo, the episode ended up feeling like a bunch of references I didn't quite get. The entire sugary cereal thing was funny in its own right, but it definitely wasn't enough to make the episode special in my eyes. That finale "Meanwhile" is the best finale of any series to have ever existed. It wraps up Fry and Leela's relationship which was a major plot of just about the entire series in a Sci-Fi way which is the theme of the show. It also wasn't an end but a new beginning where they don't have to make more episodes due to the cyclical nature of the ending.
I love the show from beginning to end. I like the later seasons feel a little different than the first. Naturama and Saturday Morning Fun Pit are amongst my favorite episodes. For me there was no "died". Still watch a few episodes a month (along with Gravity Falls). They never get old.
Naturama and Fun Pit were creative and wacky. I get why some people might not like it (for the same reasons people don't like coma seasons of archer) but its an enjoyable enough ride even if it isn't part of the bigger story.
the show never died, it's the most consistent western cartoon series of the 21st century. There is not a bad episode, even the mediocre episodes are above average compared to some of the worst from other shows like Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, etc.
I’m a giant South Park fan but you’re 100% correct. After about season 12 there have always been a few duds in every following season. The bulk of it is still great and it’s amazing that they’re going on 24 years of quality comedy.
@@djsandmannable Maybe it's time you give it another chance and keep your mind open? I love the original seasons, but the new ones are still totally great as well, and it holds a lot of its key traits that made it so great and unique.
You’re certainly not, Bender’s Big Score is one of the best imo, I kinda like Beast With a Billion Backs but the last two feature length “episodes” seemed kinda boring, at least to me anyway.
I think Bender's Big Score is one of the best things Futurama's ever done, and possibly, actually even the best. It has a smart, dynamic, even trippy sci-fi plot that perfectly displays the intelligence of Futurama, emotional resonance due to the larger than life, romance element, classic, fast, witty, Futurama humour, a plot that's truly deserving of a film, unlike the others, with an epic plot spanning time and space itself, with clearly defined, powerful supervillains, and an epic final showdown that suitably gathers together the show's entire catalogue of characters due to the movie occasion. I love this film, and I definitely think it should've been the only Futurama film. Futurama works better as concentrated crazy, and the other films felt needlessly complicated, drawn out, and overlong.
You nailed the importance of Fry's characterisation. When the series returned, something about his lovable heart felt lacking. To me, it felt like a different character.
Completely agreed. I don't really understand why the later seasons get so much love when there's really nothing special about them. Such an important arc of Fry's character was his relationship with Leela, once he finally 'got the girl', a huge part of his character is lost.
@@HipkissDesign i kinda liked how they let Fry and Leela be together. After Fry's character development through the first 5 seasons and the movies (especially Benders Big Score) it just makes sense to let them be in a relationship. My only major issue with seasons 6/7 is that they feel unguided.
*Me watching the title* : *Fry suspicious look* *Me at the end of the video* : *Bender's voice* We're back baby! I was hoping for this conclusion, I am pleased.
@@savagedarksider5934 Eh Rick And Morty died at Season 3 when they went all out with the memes, TBH it is the New Family Guy so that describes how trash the show is Nowadays IMO.
The difference is that Futurama was actually smart. Rick and Morty is like a community college philosiphy class whereas Futurama literally has a mathematical theorem to it's name.
SirDistic on its own it’s gut punching and I definitely understand why people love to cry to it. But we know Lars/Fry goes back in time and helps makes Seymour’s life a happy one. As for Luck of the Fryish I find the mom drama more sad than brother drama. But you cry what you wanna cry to my dude.
Luck of the Fryrish for me, then Game of Tones, then perhaps Cold Warriors or even The Sting (minus the ending). I'm not too fond of dogs, so Jurassic Bark didn't really connect with me.
I wouldn't say it died because its not a shell of its self like other cartoons (the Simpsons&family guy). Honestly it was a great show all around. The 3 episodes you mention are just nit picking honestly. It never really died if they want they could make a future future futurama movie and it wouldn't be outta place like the Simpsons. They could do 4 more seasons(for season 7ish----season 10)and again it wouldn't be that outta place cause futurama is galactic open world. So the storytelling can be unlimited
I did notice a change of tone when moving to Comedy Central, things got more topical. But it wasn't a sharp change in quality like we've seen with The Simpsons.
Although he did a title drop at 7:37. Yet these weaker episodes merely marked a trend where it could have taken a downward spiral like The Simpsons. But ultimately didn't.
My favorite joke from the series is in the Scooby Doo parody. They enter the famous hallway with all the doors being chased by the monster and then... it's just the next scene. It holds on the hallway for just long enough to make you think they will come in and out of the doors like normal, but it's just not there.
Not completely on topic, but my favorite episodes are: 5.) The Devil's Hand's are Idle Playthings 4.) Meanwhile 3.) The Late Phillip J. Fry 2.) The Sting 1.) The Why of Fry
"The Why of Fry" is an episode that I find gets overlooked - Aside from being fantastic, it feels like the most important episode of the whole series, as, along with the already high, universe ending stakes, it relates to and is integral to the basis of the show's entire reality, due to the revelation at the end with Fry and Nibbler regarding the past.
@@tornadochaser2457 The Why of Fry is brilliant in that Gry genuinely loves the future and never wants to go back, also the Sting , it made me cry so i never watched it again since its 2003 Airing.

I strongly agree. I just want to say that I love the show, and I loved it even after the reboot. I think that the last two seasons were . I think that the setting allows for many, many more creative ideas than The Simpsons. They've based episodes on a lot of science fiction and plain science stories. Also, I love that there's a semi-serialized story to it. There's plenty of ideas and storylines that span the show, but you can watch any single episode and have a laugh. The last few seasons have some bad episodes, but they have some great episodes. I think there's a subtle difference. As you point out, the earlier seasons are more character driven. The later seasons are more plot driven. It seems to me, based off of comments here and elsewhere, that people who started watching it after it rebooted or ended like the later seasons (though not necessarily more than the earlier ones), probably because they never had the reaction of "This isn't the Futurama I started watching!". I'm interested to know what other commenters think regarding that. Anyway, it's not a show that makes me gut laugh often like South Park does. It's a show that makes me brain laugh (not to sound like a stereotypical Rick and Morty fan). There are so many cool things to enjoy, especially if you pay attention to science or science fiction. There's plenty if you don't. It's probably my favorite animated show ever, whether I judge by the high points or the average quality.
The dream ending of Game of Tones is one of the very few moments an animated series genuinely brought a tear to my eye. It was an earned moment that the series had built up to with his parents being those distant conspiracy nuts but who truly cared deep down. The show earned that ending and delivered superbly Do i wish it was back? Sure but we had one of the classic shows which we can continue to enjoy
It never Died (at least till it finally ended) it was consistently great from beginning to end which is more than you can say for the Simpsons. If it did have a bad episode it made up for it soon after.
This reminds me that I really need to watch the entirety of this show. The storytelling and brand of humor, the loveable and memorable characters, and even the application of real-world science and math (which I should do some research about TBH). I haven't watched an episode in _forever_ but I remember how some of the episodes you mention in here were absolute tearjerkers. I'm not a sci-fi person but Futurama is an excellent sci-fi show.
Roger Smith Even after the ret-con in Bender’s Big Score? It makes Jurassic Bark much more bearable for me. And there have been a lot of tear jerkers since.
As someone who has watched all of Futurama, I was afraid of what might be said in this video. I remembered liking the entire series and believed that it never "died," so the end was relieving. Futurama ended in a fantastic way, it really tied everything together beautifully.
So many amazing episodes in this show. My sister introduced it to me on DVD and Adult Swim years before its revival ever happened. I loved episodes like Luck of the Fryrish, Jurassic Bark, the one where they went back in time, and others (though I wasn’t a huge fan of the giant brain ones)... The movies were 8-10/10 for me depending on the movies, and the episodes afterwards were pretty spot on for me. I loved how Zoidberg got a love interest, how Amy and Kiph eventually ended up, and then there are the best episodes of the series revival era...Game of Tones and Meanwhile. Game of Tones made me cry like Jurassic Bark did before Bender’s Big Score ret-conned the sadness we saw Seymour going through, and Meanwhile was a fantastic way to bring the series to a “close,” and go around again...which makes me want to binge the whole series on a continuous loop. The way they brought it to an end was amazingly epic, and while I miss the show terribly, I’m glad it’s over, and not producing new shows like The Simpsons or Family Guy just because it can.
FWIW, I’ve watched the original run over and over, while I’ve only seen the revival movies & series once. I never even bought the revival series on disc.
I'm currently enjoying my dad's (I was a baby during Futurama's original run) decision to buy the Futurama DVDs, seeing idk where to watch Futurama via streaming services.
Ohhhh, the explanation of the most recent finale subtly telling to "go back and watch the series again" making the series never-ending had blown my mind. It makes perfect sense, and thinking to it the series was also originally intended to end this way, because even the 2003 Futurama game follows this logic, reconnecting the end with the beginning of the game's plot after the characters time traveled. Wow this is pure genius!
this show defined my child hood, finishing the whole series then watching it over again. every time i watch it it brings back so many memories and i am so happy this show was created
The three episodes you said were the most memorable from the last few seasons are about the only ones I can remember off the top of my head when thinking about Futurama. After nearly 10 years since watching the show, it's still memorable, and I think that's a good show of how good they really were and their ability to strike a good balance between sci-fi and emotional connection.
I'm surprised you don't mention the fact that "The Prisoner of Benda" was post-reboot; also, although it was admittedly heavy-handed, "A Clockwork Origin" gave us "I don't want to live on this planet anymore."
The entire comeback starting with Bender's Big Score just wasnt the same....it should never have came back. Not a single episode can match something like Roswell that Ends Well, for example.
Exactly. I think the biggest reason for this is the fact that the staff didn't think it was coming back. So when it did they didn't have that same magic to it. The later seasons have their moments. But it just isn't as consistent. However I still love the series beyond what a person should.
My favorite episode is "The Late Philip J Fry". The entire premise, Fry is a Billion Years late for his date with Leela, is, by itself, absolutely hilarious to me. The one way time travel is super fun and that ending line "That was the old Fry.... he's dead now." That episode is an absolute gem.
I contend that every time Futurama has done an episode (or movie) with the concept of time travel, it's been great, apart from the episode "All the Presidents' Heads", which is just good.
I came here expecting to disagree, but agree with everything. When 'Meanwhile' was mentioned as one of the best episodes of the series, I got tingles. It really did highlight what made us all fall in love with the show, and it's so beautiful. Amazing video.

Futurama's always been one of my favorite shows. I love how every character has an actually interesting backstory and the massive potential of a large list of characters and scenarios, yet it doesn't stretch a lot with them like other series do. They manage to create emotive, yet funny situations that are scientifically proofed (sometimes) and can play with a lot of things without getting outdated beacuse it's backed by the series' logic (like having various characters' heads alive on jars or making ridiculous future predictions and current world problem satires about things like global warming or technology dependence). It is truly a magnificent piece of animation, and it has even surpassed The Simpsons in many aspects.
If you ask most fans their favorite episode, it would be impossible for any of them to give a name because not one episode gave a name when it was broadcast.
Well done. You did a great job articulating your points. I never lost interest, nor did it ever became mundane. You didn’t take a long time explaining details, and you spoke in an upbeat tempo. I also learned quite a few things that I didn’t know. Thanks for this video!
I was half sad that you were doing one of these on futurama so when you ended it by saying its still alive today gave me such a relief. Literally on par with the emotion I’ve felt at some of those famous heartwarming and touching episodes you mentioned.
When I saw that you'd done a "Day BLANK Died" vid for Futurama, my heart sank! But (spoiler alert) after hearing your last sentence, I am all warm and fuzzy... I couldn't agree more with your words, and I love how well you've said it. Another great video here!
There was a significant drop in quality moving to Comedy Central, but futurama is a fantastic show overall. I’d even say underrated given how much people talk about the simpsons, family guy, and etc. It served a really exact and weird niche in the early 2000s and it played it well. Seeing it come back and have such a satisfying ending was one of the best ways a show can die.
Great video! Considering you talked about how Futurama is a character development focused show to some degree, due to its light serialisation, as opposed to The Simpsons, I think it's worth noting Leela's evolution as a character, which I think often gets overlooked. Leela started out as a very no-nonsense, serious leader, and gradually became more relaxed within her workplace. This evolution occurs through season 1 to 3 I'd say, and is done subtly, so that it's not noticeable until you bring attention to it. It was impressive and cool to see - As she became acquainted with her job and community, she allowed herself to loosen up.
I think I’ve seen maybe two full episodes of Futurama but have never actually sat down and watched the full series. Thanks for the video. It has motivated me to give the show a legit try. Cheers. 🐾
I was surprised to see this in the title. I didn't think it ever "died." The movies are a bit unbearable, but a slump doesn't kill a good series. Futurama is one of those rare shows that can make you guffaw and cry in the span of a minute. I think it ended so perfectly (both times). I liked how the first ending, which I remember living with for a considerable amount of time, hinted that Fry and Leela do have a happy future together. And they did that justice by showing their future together but with a twist that there's still more for them together if they "go around again." It was bittersweet superb.
Futurama is my favorite show. The balance between inspiring future what ifs and emotional character development is captivating. I watched the entire thing when I was 15, and Im waiting til later in life to rewatch. The theme song is forever in my mind as well... nostalgia. :)

This ending is cynical I thought of it as heartwarming
Update: Futurama is coming back for more episodes so about the thing you said towards the end is now no longer true lol
Don’t be sad it ended, be glad that it happened.

@SpongyQuaffle What episode is on?
@SpongyQuaffle Cool. Thanks for the reply 🙂
Futurama is my white noise machine. That and Adventure Time. Can't fall asleep without em.
the show never died, it's the most consistent western cartoon series of the 21st century.
The last two seasons definitely had bad episodes. The tone and writing quality of the earlier pre-cancellation seasons simply wasn't there.
Disagree. I'm a MASSIVE fan. I hated the new seasons. I've watched the original seasons like 10-20x. I watched through the new ones a single time.
And this is the comment I was looking for.
@@djsandmannable Maybe it's time you give it another chance and keep your mind open? I love the original seasons, but the new ones are still totally great as well, and it holds a lot of its key traits that made it so great and unique.
Hey man don't be talking down Bender's Big Score.
The other three movies though.... eh, that's fair.
The only genuinely bad one is Beast.
@@TheOwneroftheIC None are bad. though my least favourite is Green Yonder
I am sorry my sir I cannot like your comment

Am I the ONLY ONE who thinks "Bender's Big Score" is on par with some of the best episodes of the series?!
I like all of the movies.
YES IT IS, it died after that tho
Benders big score a most amazing movie, totally on par with the rest of it
You nailed the importance of Fry's characterisation.
Flanderization, my friend.
@@HipkissDesign i kinda liked how they let Fry and Leela be together. After Fry's character development through the first 5 seasons and the movies (especially Benders Big Score) it just makes sense to let them be in a relationship. My only major issue with seasons 6/7 is that they feel unguided.
@@HipkissDesign I think the first 5 seasons are more loved.

Yes. for those of us missing our mothers this is the truth
I'll give you it hits differently but watching seymore waiting is absolutely heartbreaking. At least to me.
Nah. Jurrassic Bark is probably one of the saddest things ever on TV. Luck of the Fryrish is second.
He said it's still alive.........
@@KaylaTheKindOne Pretty much this. See 9:25 - he averted our expectations, much like the Futurama Ending itself.

They also use the “Alcubierre warp drive” to move the spaceship (moving the space around them instead of the ship) and yes...that finale is the BEST!
That's right. I forgot about that reference.
My favorite joke from the series is in the Scooby Doo parody. They enter the famous hallway with all the doors being chased by the monster and then... it's just the next scene. It holds on the hallway for just long enough to make you think they will come in and out of the doors like normal, but it's just not there.
Great joke it was
Not completely on topic, but my favorite episodes are:
5.) The Devil's Hand's are Idle Playthings
4.) Meanwhile
3.) The Late Phillip J. Fry
2.) The Sting
1.) The Why of Fry
"The Why of Fry" is an episode that I find gets overlooked - Aside from being fantastic, it feels like the most important episode of the whole series, as, along with the already high, universe ending stakes, it relates to and is integral to the basis of the show's entire reality, due to the revelation at the end with Fry and Nibbler regarding the past.
I'm counting Wild Green Yonder as an episode and it was my favourite.
@@tornadochaser2457 The Why of Fry is brilliant in that Gry genuinely loves the future and never wants to go back, also the Sting , it made me cry so i never watched it again since its 2003 Airing.

Futurama could've kept going except Fox had to screw it up by constantly moving it about the schedule. One of the smartest tv series every made that never lost its heart.
Still though I'm glad it ended how it did between Fry & Leela
"The devil's hand are idle playthings" and "Roswell that ends well" are probably my two favorite episodes. But honestly, there are too many to count.

I always loved Futurama. My son and I watched and laughed our way through many episodes together. It was a joy to do so. Thanks to everyone that made this possible.
It was a perfect ending, that also sets up a Possible future revival which I wouldn't oppose as long as they focus on quality over quantity. We all have to admit that Futurama at it's lowest is still by far better than most of it's counterparts.

A quote from the final episode was a part of my husband’s wedding vows, because this show has always been one of our joint favorites, and one that we both grew up with before we knew each other. It was a home run, and it makes me cry throughout that part of the episode where Fry and Leela go around the world for the rest of their lives. It’ll always be special.
What's the quote?? I'd love to know

Futurama is one of the best animated shows ever! I cry everytime at the dog episode 😭😭😭

I always wanted a season where fry and leela had a baby and that could be its final season.
It could of had a message of growing up and parenthood
But then Futurama would be the show that everybody wishes would just end already.
The dream ending of Game of Tones is one of the very few moments an animated series genuinely brought a tear to my eye. It was an earned moment that the series had built up to with his parents being those distant conspiracy nuts but who truly cared deep down. The show earned that ending and delivered superbly
Do i wish it was back?
I refuse to watch the episode "Jurassic Bark" aka the saddest episode ever 😢 the one with the dog.

Man Jurassic bark hit me in the feels hard
this show defined my child hood, finishing the whole series then watching it over again. every time i watch it it brings back so many memories and i am so happy this show was created
NGL I wish more people did reaction videos to the Futurama series. We have too many about Rick & Morty, Steven Universe and other newer cartoons.
The episode about fry’s dog *broke me* it’s was the saddest thing ever when fry thinks the dog forgot about him, then it showed the dog waiting 😢😢😢
However I still love the series beyond what a person should.
not where I thought you were going with this, but now I'm crying because 'Meanwhile' is my absolute favorite episode of the whole series.
100% agreed
Yes the finale is deep and cyclicle
Don't forget "the sting"
Not for me. Godfellas. Without a doubt. It's so superbly written.

The only real issue with futurama is that it's such a tough act to follow it made Disenchantment even worse than it actually is.
Finally somebody who has the same opinion about the ending as me
Every time I watch Jurassic Bark, tears run at the ending part ,the song & the dog waiting .
Such a great show. I got emotional watching this.
I love it, it never died because this show is perfect from start to finish, one of the greatest shows ever made.
Yes, Futurama is one of my favorite shows along with South Park and Ren and Stimpy.
Amy & Kif being broken up & permanently forgetting they have kids so the writers can make an Amy X Bender episode everyone hated: Perfect

Futurama is a show that was smarter than its audience but never made us feel that way.
Futurama is my favorite show. The balance between inspiring future what ifs and emotional character development is captivating. I watched the entire thing when I was 15, and Im waiting til later in life to rewatch. The theme song is forever in my mind as well... nostalgia. :)
Futrurama is the perfect example of ending a show before it goes on for too long. It's ironic that it's made by the same people as The simspons
