One thing I've always wondered with mobile sharpening business, is what do you do if you have an equipment failure on your main belt grinder? I know you are using a Harbor Freight 1x30 (or clone) so it doesn't have the highest quality components? The Steven Sharpens channel has 3 1x42 belt grinders, plus other equipment, so he has redundancy if one piece fails.

That’s apart of the milwalkee packout system. They have sales pretty often. 😊 TOUGHBUILT makes their own variation now that I think is superior.

What brush are you using to knock the wire edge off with? Neat idea btw.

Thanks! It’s a little trick I picked up from salon scissor sharpening. The brush is actually a beard brush from the store. But if you type in military hairbrush it should come up on google. I think the brush is boar, or synthetic. Either way it works great for teasing off burrs and retaining a certain finish.

Hi Sam, how much did you pay for the diamond powder?
I was just thinking perhaps to apply the emulsion on the belt while is not moving so you give it some time to adhere to the belt.
    Thanks

It was $14 on Amazon. You should be able to type in whatever diamond powder. In this case I was using a 3 micron diamond powder.
I’ll give that a shot. Makes sense that it may adhere a little better, but I’m not noticing a problem with that. But I’ll check it out and see if it just lasts longer in that case. Or if there is any different results. 😊

@@Samsmobilesharpening I even had a crazier idea, add some sugar to the mix to make the emulsion a little stickier and since it is just sugar it can be easily removed from knives with water. I know, I know, sound crazy, eh? Hoping the belt doesn't get mouldy πŸ€”
There is something called gum arabic that is used in artists paint to make paint adhere to paper. I think it's water soluble.

      @@redangrybird7564 I like where your
Heads at! Always in the pursuit of making things better. 😊 I’ve seen some people mix it with vegetable glycerine, and propylene glycol thinning with water. My only concerns would be mold like you said. Or ants. I get sugar ants really bad every year! No matter what ya do they are a problem out here. Probably one of my least favorite insects. Along with wasps.
