This one does not but I definitely recommend that they do. If you don’t air root your plants, purchase smaller pots with drainage holes to place inside the larger ones without it.
Pots with drainage is recommended, but I have had no issues with my pots that don't have drainage. They remain healthy, but I also believe the amount of sunlight and water helps to keep them that way. I am a plant novice and have only shared what works for me. Thank you for stopping by Yolanda!
@@JulieKhuu This is TERRIBLE advice for most any plant. As a 'novice' you should be doing more research before making these videos. God forbid another first time plant owner follows this and kills their beautiful tree.
Great video Julie! I am not a plant novice and I can tell you that plants can grow just fine in pots without drainage holes. It is so unfortunate that people think that everything is one size fits all. Drainage holes are because people tend to over water their plants and not have enough air circulation or sunlight to compensate for this. Drainage holes are not a must but a backup plan.

Wow, I have such fiddler leaf tree envy watching your tall plant. I would kill to have the big one and I'd never trim it, just let it grow. I had one years ago and loved it, but when I moved, I had to let it go. I just acquired a new one a week or so ago and cannot wait to see it grow big like yours.
Julie thank you for this post. My husband bought me a fiddle leaf for valentines, it has only one trunk to it and it getting too tall, we would rather it be more full as yours is. So we clipped one piece just to try this. Although the place we clipped the branch wasn’t as thick as yours, I am assuming because our plant is a younger plant? Also, although we have a lot of natural light coming in with huge windows it’s not direct light, will the propagation still work? Can we put it outside in direct light? We love on FL and it’s hot right now? Any tips for us you have we would appreciate as we want our fiddle leaf to get as massive as your is! Love your channel
Thank you for watching Angel! No, keep it indoors. Direct sunlight outdoors can kill it. Find the brightest window you can, the propagation works best with lots of light. You can tell the younger stems are still green, and yes it will grow thicker and brown as it matures. Good luck!
Julie Khuu Awesome, ty so much!!! We just repotted our tree!!! Would love to share pics! Wish we could post them on here! We will keep the clipping in the house in the brightest light we have! Love your channel
I bought my first (and currently only) FLF a few months ago, and I’m desperate to grow it into a tall and healthy tree. It’s now just about 1.5 feet tall. Wish me luck! 😬☺️👍
I have two gigantic fiddly fig trees that are about 9 and 10 feet tall. They are both tall and skinny with leaves all the way from the pot to the top of the plant. Is it OK to trim the leaves from the bottom of the tree, up to where I want the fullness to be? Should I do this gradually so that I don’t shock the plants? I would love your advice! Your video was so informative, so thank you for putting that out there.
Yes, do this gradually. Maybe a section per month to see how they respond. I accidentally repotted my FLF after an ant attack and she didn’t survive. Total shock to the roots so now I repot defensively 😂
Wow! Awesome 😊 ..I put the cutting into the water but after 2-3 days the leaves are falling.. what is the reason?? I put the cutting near to the window.. indirect sufficient sunlight

What does sheet moss do for the Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree? I have one in my preschool classroom. This information is new to me and would help me to take better care of the tree. Thanks
It does not Claudia, I air root the plant regularly. But I DO always recommend drainage holes for all plants. Roots need proper drainage so they can breathe and don’t rot. I have my system down and was experimenting as well.
Great job, and love your video! Very informative 👏 I’m propagating quite a few right now, and have 2 questions. 1) does it not need to have drainage holes in the pot? My main fiddle does not, and looks just like yours, so I’m really curious 🧐 2) I clipped the very top of it, where it only had 2 leaves, and it has grown roots, but I’m wondering if it will continue to grow tall? it hasn’t seemed to grow in height yet, just width wise, for the past month. TIA!
Thank you so much, this is so helpful! I have a question, can I cut off a long branch (about 18-24 inches) and propagate that or does it need to be a shorter branch? Thanks!!
Hi! My FLF is one stem but 8 feet tall😬 I would like for it to be fuller. Can I encourage more growth at this point? It’s touching my ceilings and bending out. Or would that put it in shock? Thank you for post this video.
Yes, they do. I am air rooting this particular plant and got my watering system down- I should have specified that in the vid 🤦🏻♀️ But you should always have drainage Jamey! Or a smaller pot with holes to place in the larger pots (like mine) without drainage
I don’t use any fertilizer for my FLF, but I do know that they do best on fertilizer with a 3-1-2 N-P-K ratio, or 3% nitrogen, 1% phosphorus, and 2% potassium (Amazon sells a bunch)
Brodrick Bynum I’ve actually kept a propogated stem in a glass mason jar for over 2 months with gnarly roots. They can survive hydroponically but thrive when potted in soil.
You should have drainage holes so the plant breathes and drains properly. I used to air-root a lot of my plants, so I would regularly remove them from their pots, give the entire soil a good soak and dry it out before watering weekly. I don’t do this anymore (no time), so I would always recommend having drainage holes for your plants 🪴
Julie great video. Just a question. After you put the new leaf with the new roots into the pot, where do you put the new pot. Should I put it under only a shade or …? Thanks.

Its always great to give propagated plants to friends, family, co-workers or employees as gifts! Tell them to upgrade the little pot as it gets bigger so it doesn't get rootbound.
Yup, there’s barely any window room left in my house Cami! 😂
Your videos are easy to watch, Thanks
Thank you for watching Angela 🌱
Love it so helpful and can’t wait to work on my fiddle fig
Thank you for watching Kristy! Best of luck to your baby! 🌿
Love it! I just have a stem cutting but short stem so i hope i can make it grow.
I’ve had success with small and large stems Charisse 🙌
@@JulieKhuu 1 out of 3 stem cuttings has survived and it has produced total of 10 leaves now and 1 out of 3 original leaves is still holding on. I'm happy that I can say I have a fiddle fig plant. I got this from a huge tree at a park.
interior design + gardening/plant propagation = great combo :) Thanks for the tips.
Will share more plant videos in the new year! My babies have grown so much since this video 🌿
Thanks for this video. I like to buy one of those fig plant. Love your videos. 💕💖💞
Thank you Lucita! I give them away to friends and family 🌿
Love this video. I'm putting more plants inside these days myself.
My plant babies are keeping me sane these days 🌿
1st time watching & I LoVe it here! Thank you✨
Thank you for watching Reels 🙏🏻
Wow, I have such fiddler leaf tree envy watching your tall plant. I would kill to have the big one and I'd never trim it, just let it grow. I had one years ago and loved it, but when I moved, I had to let it go. I just acquired a new one a week or so ago and cannot wait to see it grow big like yours.
I had to trim mine down, my ceilings are too low! Good luck with your new baby! I’m sure you are the best plant parent Hang!
Super helpful, excellent video quality and gurl, you are a whole snack!! Thanks for the tips :)
Lol thanks for watching and hope you'll be back to check out my other design vids!
So great video. Thanks for it Julie. Can't wait to try , probably that tree alot in my country, Indonesia ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Yes, I’ve been hearing that! Good luck Aries! 🙌🏻
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This helped me immensely.
Awesome, good luck Yvonne! 🙌🏻
I bought my first (and currently only) FLF a few months ago, and I’m desperate to grow it into a tall and healthy tree. It’s now just about 1.5 feet tall. Wish me luck! 😬☺️👍
Jennifer Howell Lotsa indirect sunlight and keep the soil moist (but not too wet)- it’ll do great! 🙌🏻
Not the fastest growers. You may need luck and longevity. Best Wishes.
They are so beautiful. They say fiddles are hard to take care of. Is that so,lol by the looks you make it look easy.
My fiddle is very responsive. I think I just found her favorite spot in the house and never moved her 💚
Loved your video. Learned a lot. That is the plant exactly that I am looking for. Thank you for your inspirations.
Thank you for watching Clayton! You got this 🙌🏻
Love this video. Where did you purchase the three plants stand? It is so clever. Thanks.
Thank you Tory! It was a Homegoods find, but Amazon has a ton of options. Search “tiered plant stand”
Great tutorial. Now I can do it myself, thanks!
Awesome 🙌🏻 Let me know how it goes Elaine!
Hello, can you please please tell me what do I do with the leaves on my dinner leave big that are crack or torn 3:46 3:46
Remove them so your FLF expends its energy on healthy leaves, not dying ones
Great video! Easy and well explained instructions.
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
Thanks for sharing this useful clipping ❤
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
Hi Julie, I love your video on propagating. Do you use any specific food you use with these plants? Thank you!
I don’t feed my plants - I’ve had bad luck in the past 🙁 So now, just lots of TLC (and repotting in coco coir)
Love it. How often do you change the water when you're waiting for the roots to grow in the jar?
When the water appears cloudy or when there’s about 2” left.
I loved it. I learned so much.
Awesome 👏🏻
Wow! Awesome 😊 ..I put the cutting into the water but after 2-3 days the leaves are falling.. what is the reason?? I put the cutting near to the window.. indirect sufficient sunlight
Sounds like there could be a bacterial infection in the water? Hmm 🤔 that shouldn’t happen if the leaves were healthy prior to cutting
@@JulieKhuu I have a tree like plant of fiddle leaf.,.... Like 15-20 feet on the ground in india... today I put it in rainy water... let's see... I put the cutting in clear water...and change the water every 2-3 days.. but I think our indian weather is not suitable for cutting... anyway thanks for replying... I'll update you 😊
What does sheet moss do for the Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree? I have one in my preschool classroom. This information is new to me and would help me to take better care of the tree. Thanks
Nothing, purely decorative ☺️
Thanks for a great video! I was just about to repot an Alocacia and your video was a great help.
Awesome Natalia! Would love to know how it goes for you! Thanks for stopping by! xx
Does the new pot from home goods have holes at the bottom? Are they necessary?
It does not Claudia, I air root the plant regularly. But I DO always recommend drainage holes for all plants. Roots need proper drainage so they can breathe and don’t rot. I have my system down and was experimenting as well.
I love your video Ma am...I will try also to propagate fiddle leaf...tnx
Yes! It’s so easy!! 🙌🏻
Great job, and love your video! Very informative 👏
I’m propagating quite a few right now, and have 2 questions. 1) does it not need to have drainage holes in the pot? My main fiddle does not, and looks just like yours, so I’m really curious 🧐
2) I clipped the very top of it, where it only had 2 leaves, and it has grown roots, but I’m wondering if it will continue to grow tall? it hasn’t seemed to grow in height yet, just width wise, for the past month.
TIA!
do you recommend using the water method instead of dipping end of branch in rooting hormone and immediately putting in soil?
Yes, personally this was the most successful method for me
Thank you so much, this is so helpful! I have a question, can I cut off a long branch (about 18-24 inches) and propagate that or does it need to be a shorter branch? Thanks!!
The longer the branch, the longer it takes to propagate. Good luck Carol! 🪴🙌🏻
Hi! My FLF is one stem but 8 feet tall😬 I would like for it to be fuller. Can I encourage more growth at this point? It’s touching my ceilings and bending out. Or would that put it in shock? Thank you for post this video.
You can notch it or prune it to branch out. I’m working on a video to show these examples. Thanks for watching!
Julie Khuu how far down should I go for that cut? It’s already hitting the top of my ceiling. Thanks for the reply! And I look forward to your video.
I snipped two leaves from my mother in law's tree. I'm excited to see roots.
Akix Can’t waif to see how they progress! So exciting!
Dont the pot at home goods need to have drain holes in it or a pot with drain holes setting down in it??
Yes, they do. I am air rooting this particular plant and got my watering system down- I should have specified that in the vid 🤦🏻♀️ But you should always have drainage Jamey! Or a smaller pot with holes to place in the larger pots (like mine) without drainage
@@JulieKhuu I don't know what air rooting means, I can see you say it a few times but 🤷
Hi Julie, I'm new to your channel. thank you for sharing your tips with us. God bless!
Mary T thank you so much for watching! Please let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to see on my channel! Xx
@@JulieKhuu Thank you, I would love to learn how do you know when to water your indoor plants. I get a lot of gnats on the soil. Thanks again.
FANTASTIC VIDEO LOVE IT 🌱❤
Thank you for watching Rosa 🙏🏻🌿
Love your channel !!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏻
Great video … do suggest a good fertiliser and how often to use 😊
I don’t use any fertilizer for my FLF, but I do know that they do best on fertilizer with a 3-1-2 N-P-K ratio, or 3% nitrogen, 1% phosphorus, and 2% potassium (Amazon sells a bunch)
At @3:25 where you show a previous plant that was grown, how long can it grow like that? Can a FLF grow hydroponically
Brodrick Bynum I’ve actually kept a propogated stem in a glass mason jar for over 2 months with gnarly roots. They can survive hydroponically but thrive when potted in soil.
Can we get an update on this big fiddle? :) awesome video
Check out my fiddle leaf fig basics video for the latest update Lauren! You’ll see what I mean 😅
Thanks, just commented on there. :)
Want to know: if I cut the stem of the Fiddlestick, will 2 new branches grow from the cut trunk? so i'll get a fork in my tree?
Thank you you !
Sometimes yes, sometimes it’s one longer branch with multiple stems. You can never predict it Sabina
I noticed you put your new branches in cute pots...do they not need drainage holes? How often do you water them?
You should have drainage holes so the plant breathes and drains properly. I used to air-root a lot of my plants, so I would regularly remove them from their pots, give the entire soil a good soak and dry it out before watering weekly. I don’t do this anymore (no time), so I would always recommend having drainage holes for your plants 🪴
Julie great video. Just a question. After you put the new leaf with the new roots into the pot, where do you put the new pot. Should I put it under only a shade or …? Thanks.
Indirect bright light Roger- preferably next to a window
@@JulieKhuu thanks a million for your kind and prompt response. You really are a truly professional. Will follow your advise.
