Jawan Review by Sucharita Tyagi - Subtility ki scope hai hi nahi yahaan, ek nahi 600 cheezein hain address karne ke liye, kaise aapko dheere dheere samjhaayenge ek-ek cheez, ek film ke andar. This is a FREIGHT train of conflicts and solutions, going as far back as invoking the Bhopal gas tragedy to oxygen shortage in hospitals across the country during the devastating, and quickly forgotten second wave of the covid pandemic. Hairsplitting mentatlity nahi hai, ki gas leak kyun hui, uska impact kya hai. Like I said, this is the angry young citizen who doesn’t care about waiting for the finer details to present themselves but demands previous inaction be addressed, so we aren’t doomed to repeat history over and over again. Even the old citizens will have to start playing a young person’s game, to finally play their part in democracy they didn’t realize they had been ignoring their whole lives. Agli generation sudharne ka kaam picchli generation se start karna hoga.
Agar sunkar lag raha hai ki movie review mein itni political baatein kyun kar rahi hai Sucharita, it's because yeh recent times ki sabse political mainstream film HAI. Screenplay itni jaldbaazi mein, ki farmers crises par bhi jaana hai, bank fraud par bhi, crony capitalism bhi issue hai, aur corruption bhi, health care bhi phail gaya hai voter fraud bhi, aur shayad time zyada bacha nahi hai ki intezaar karein koi oopar baitha hai joh jan-hit mein sochan shuru karega. Time khatam, patience khatam, elections hain kuch mahino mein, here is a deafening REMINDER of what all is at stake, a shake-down of how our helplessness has turned to apathy, and how one needs to find that anger and injustice and channel it toward change. So no, it's not a documentary but Jawan IS a densely packed, dizzying simulation of real life, constantly breaking the 4th wall to remind you of this.

Long ago, SRK said that he was too handsome to be in politics.
He still remains just way too handsome.
He still doesnt "talk" about politics.

"Jawan is a release, for pent-up frustration", Mic Drop!!!
I was eagerly waiting for this review ever since I watched Jawan on Thursday. I knew it then that only Sucharita would delve into the movie's essence and why it's so crucial and timely, especially at a time when Bollywood seems to have succumbed to the establishment, producing films to gain favor from those in power. Gone are the days when Bollywood used to tell the stories of common public; it now seems to prioritize the status quo.
Most reviewers have either briefly mentioned this issue and swiftly moved on, fearing the backlash of trolls in the comments. Some have even criticized the movie, labeling it as 'too political' or addressing 'too many social issues' to appeal to or maintain their audience.
Through this film, SRK, Atlee, and their team implore you to demand excellence from your elected representatives, regardless of their political affiliations.
It's the most commercial, and meta movie I've seen in Bollywood in ages. Kudos to the team!

Your review really do justice to the movie. Usually, I wouldnt have liked this kind of movie but in these times, it seems like such a huge thing politically. Like his entire monologue at the end about election was electrifying knowing how you rarely get any news that is anti-govt at least in the mainstream for people like us who arent from India. I have huge respect for SRK. How he is using his stardom to raise questions. Warna to sabki bolti band hai. Im glad you talked about those 3 eggs in the action sequence.. Jawan is a celebration, a message, a wake up call. I never imagined the King would fight back in a way like this. For the last five-six years, he went through extreme tough situation one after another. His stardom was questioned. His validity was questioned. His loyalty to the nation was questioned. His son was framed in a fake case. His religious activity was insulted(lata jii issue). Man! He endured everything without a single fkn word!! My heart bled for my king. Every day i kind of screamed inside my brain for his comeback. & yes. His comeback is personal. His insults were personal.

As a South African this film hit hard with the issues portrayed.
We all here face the same problems with lack of proper health care and our hospitals falling into ruin, the huge corruption at hand and above all no accountability whatsoever from the politicians responsible for the decay of our country. SRK really did break the 4th wall in his last scene talking to us all as citizens not only from India but of the world to at least question the people you are voting into power and don't just look the other away and accept whats coming your way.

The topic and Issues that this movie has raised & pointed out is 100% relatable to the current situation & the incidents that has happened/happening in our country, although it doesn't directly blacken someone but has smartly used big screen to address it & and that is pretty commendable. 👏

In our country if you need to educate people about politics then the message needs to be wrapped in a massy, masala movie. First bring the people to the theaters, entertain them first and then teach them about the power of their choice.
Make no mistake Jawan IS a masala entertainer throughout. Atlee knew what he is making as even the BGM says, "Massy! Massy! Massy!". BUT IMO the country needed a reminder about the things, the crisis it just went through and what our honourable ministers did for us in the moments we needed them the most.

We get that you are biased to SRK and that's okay cause we all do it. But, this is pure over the top masala acting....his gravelly voice modulation was quite cheesy cause it did sound fake...reminded me of Christian bale's over the top batman voice.

ofcourse it was bit over the top, since he was on a live broadcast. The thing is, it did impress me a lot and left a big impact for me. PS- He has actually used voice modulation quite effectively in his previous films as well. The latest in which he did that before was Fan. Gaurav's voice was different from Aryan was different from Gaurav mimicking Aryan which was different from Aryan mimicking Gaurav. There the modulation was even quite subtle. Not sure if you have seen the film though.

An extremely incoherent review. You basically said a whole bunch of stuff about the country’s politics and srk’s politics to steer away from the fact that objectively the movie is bad. You guys did the same with Pathan. What is going on? We love SRK, but how about not championing him and his films because of who he is and what he’s gone through? How about judging the films based on what they are? If Salman Khan had made this same film, you guys wouldn’t have been saying the stuff you’re saying. You talked about everything from his stardom to his politics. Has the way the politics been addressed in the film apt for such sensitive social issues? “Toh kya hua, massy film mein itna toh kar raha hai Shahrukh.” Itna kaafi nai hai. If it was any other actor, we would have demanded accountability. But because of how much we love srk the man, we seem to be okay with him just attempting something, even if the attempt is not up to the standard of good cinema. What good is addressing social issues if it’s so poorly and irresponsibly done that I saw most people in the theatre visibly cringe at a scene that addressed an issue as serious as farmers suicide. These are hyper realist films with superhuman heroes, films that Martin Scorsese calls “theme park movies.” . I fear that addressing social issues in these irresponsibly made formula films, would only further desensitise the audience towards these issues. These massy films are a celebration of our favourite stars, which is great for fans who hero-worship them. To the rest, They do nothing more than perhaps giving you a momentary thrill. Sure, these heavy background score and slo-mo fuelled-circus films are fun for some, but are they actually good for cinema in the long run? Will they be remembered 20 years from now? Future generations will look at these films, just like we look at some films from the 80s, and think, what the fuck were those guys on? How on earth did this garbage make so much money?
Anyway, forgive me for ruining Jawan mania😂. You guys keep talking about srk the star. Does srk the actor not matter anymore? I’ll go rewatch swades and Kabhi haan Kabhi na, to remind myself of the actor that I loved, who unfortunately has been overshadowed by the star.

Having the balls to rise against the establishment when the whole of Bollywood has turned slave of the ruling party. He went through suffering in silence during the drugs episode. Gave it all back with compound interest.
Only South Indian director would dare to take such movie

Hi Sucharita, as a non-Indian citizen, I did not quite connect with the ending as I wanted to or should have, but I definitely felt it was courageous of the team and of SRK!!! Did you feel the first half and the second half were too different, Perhaps the second half was improvised based on that time's affairs :)

I think with big names there comes the Bias. This is one of the most senseless movie according to me.
    (1) A soldier realising during the war that gun is not working ?
    (2) Prisons going out of the jail like everybody else is Blind.
    (3) Brainless double role and man got saved even after falling from sky.
    (4) "Bete ko haath lagaane se pehle Baap se Baat kar " - Bizzare Generic Dialogues/ Making heavy voice to deliver senseless dialogues
    (5) 55+ year old guy in Hollywood does actions scenes so I can also do that . (Look at Amitabh Bachhan since last 2-3 decades, how he creatively does diverse roles instead of Jumping here and there)
Fighting against the system from outside the system . Good concept. Gabbar movie already there where issues are dealt with some logic and not by hijacking everything just because it's Digital era.
These so called Heroes will keep making crores because Indians are still emotional and with baseless fighting scenes through VFX Shahrukh Khan will be bigger for us than the actual Jawan fighting on the border..
    Think about it...!

This review is 100x more nuanced than the film being reviewed. Whilst I connected with the political messaging of the film, I failed to connect with the film itself. The screenplay is so frantic that the entire film feels like a montage of clips. The sheer scale of what’s attempted to be covered is 3 films worth of content in 1. The south style loudness, the ludicrousness, the awful music, the absolute surrender of even a scintilla of logic, ultimately cloud the positives of the messaging. But I’m also very conscious that I’m not the target audience of this film, and for those that are, I do hope the messaging resonates.

Very very precise review especially how the story developed at such a alarminginly fast rate and also the sevral loopholes in plots... Especially the love angle which involved at a supersonic speed. First minute the 6 year old daughter is having a conversation on her mother's behalf.. and the next minute they got married and 2 minutes later she is pointing a gun at him.....wowww talk about speed huh😂 (duniya ki sabse choti prem kahani)
