      Chewies are awesome! My first dog was a Beagle named Chewy. Nothing to do with this but a fun fact indeed.

    Thank you so much for your advice. I'm on tray 16 and I just got my first sets of Chewies today. I just have two questions. One based off your video I should be doing the chewing for about 30 minutes a day correct? Also is it possible that the the liners may not be sitting properly because you are due to have the attachment changed? When I asked earlier today I was told no. However, I have been very good at following the rules and keeping them in long enough. So I just want to understand why they might not be sitting probably when I don't think I did something wrong.

      I think 30 minutes a day is nice but maybe not practical for everyone. First and foremost, I would listen to the doctor providing your aligner treatment. There may be some cases were they do not want chewies to be used. That being said, I think they are great for getting the teeth to seat into the aligners better. A good practice might be to use them every time you put in your trays.
      I do not feel that that would be the reason for the aligners not fitting. Attachments are usually placed at the beginning and we rarely change attachments in the middle of a set. Your doctor may have it set up differently. I do not know. There are several reasons they may not be fitting properly. 1) They were deformed from either excessive heat or excessive chewing on the trays. The heat could be from cleaning them in water that is too hot or drinking coffee or tea with them in.
      2) Some tooth movements may require that the trays are worn longer.
      3) The doctor should make sure that the teeth are not binding. Some tooth movements are more difficult if the teeth are not able to slide past each other.
      4) Of course not wearing them as directed could be another problem. That doesn't sound like cause in your case.
      Thanks for the questions!

    I understood that they were to also stimulate movement by engaging the teeth, not just fitting the aligners better. This is my first week. I use them for about 30 minutes a day. Chew it as soon as I put them in for about 15-20 minutes. Heck I might even be doing it for an hour without thinking. I used to chew chewing gum. Perhaps I'm over doing it?

      I think this is great! The one concern I might have is that the plastic in the aligner may break down after a while. I think 30 minutes a day is great. If you find the aligner breaking down sooner than a week then you may want to back off. I would say that your understanding is correct. By having the aligners fit better you are getting better tooth movement. You are also stimulating activity to the area by using the chewies. Bringing more blood flow and therefore more cells that break down and create bone. Let me know how you're doing in a few weeks! -Dr Wesley

      @@lifetimeorthodontics5520 can you answer me this? As a dentist/orthodontist Do you get all of the trays in one go from Invisalign? I have 60 aligners in my plan. The reason I ask is because I wonder if my plan will change during treatment. The other reason I ask is that I have buttons across all my top teeth, but from watching the clincheck video, my top teeth stop moving by week 30. So it seems pointless to me, to still have buttons across my top teeth after week 30 onwards when they don't appear to be moving. Surely I don't need buttons to simply hold the top row of teeth in place, in saying that - I'm not a doctor. If possible, I'd want my top trays from week 30 onwards without the buttons in the top row mould and to have the buttons removed from my top teeth. I haven't asked my dentist yet, but I will next visit. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

    Do you use one or two chewies at a time?

    • @lifetimeorthodontics5520
      @lifetimeorthodontics5520  4 года назад

      Just one is fine! It can last a long time. Just wash it with dish soap. Start on one side of your mouth and wor it around.

    I've been steadily increasing the amount of time I use my chewy every day because I can't seem to get a good fit with my aligners anymore. I'm currently using it about 40 min per day. I'm waiting for my orthodontist to get back with me to figure out what could be going on.

      Sometimes, the teeth just lose tracking. This could be from changing the trays too quickly or from not wearing them enough. Sometimes there are just difficult tooth movements that need more time. More chewies is not always the answer.

    0:54 I noticed that under 'Good tracking' on the left picture there is still a thin gap between the teeth and the aligner. This is similar to mine, especially my lower teeth, even after I use chewies. Is this ok?

    • @lifetimeorthodontics5520
      @lifetimeorthodontics5520  3 года назад +1

      Take into account the thickness of the plastic. There will be about a mm of plastic that is clear so it may look like a gap. Anymore than that then you may be having tracking issues.
