    Your series makes educated urbanites consider working a small farm. Hope you will tell us as you go along, whether and how a scaled-down venture in an acre or two can be worked mostly without external labour, using tools, equipment, within permaculture.

      @farmaanandaa  4 года назад +1

      "Makes educated urbanites consider working a small farm" - this is our aim! We don't expect farmers to covert to permaculture overnight as they are more often than not dependant on their next harvest. You have hit the nail on the head! Have you watched Manisha's Ted Talk yet - we think you will like it.

    Also you mentioned that you were doing full time job along with this farm would be nice to know how you managed both

    • @farmaanandaa
      @farmaanandaa  2 года назад +2

      You can decide how much capital you want to deploy. You can do little or lots. You can start your own saplings or buy from a nursery. Or make a proper fence or just pile up thorny bushes on the periphery. So you decide and work within your budget.
      We put our management degrees to use, and did lobg distance supervision. Set clear goals from the team on the ground abd held them accountable. We visited once in 2 months and covered specific projects like building a pond or a garden or planting trees. It all worked out well.

    Roughly how many people (labourers) should we provision for per acre to work and maintain the land?

    was thinking of lantana camara as a hedge around my 5 acre farm...but although its flowers are pretty and their smell is brain healing, lantana grows too fast and it would be a pain in the arse to trim it down from time to time. But nowadays, its leaves are dried and sold at a premium as a herbal tea. Really confused what to do :)

      Lantana can be invasive. Make sure you have the variety that you can contain to the borders.

      @@farmaanandaa I don't like to use hybrid variety. I would prefer wild lantana. It is my all time favorite and i have spread 1000s of seeds. Love the flowers, their smell triggers nostalgic part of the brain, medicinal plant with sweet black colored fruit. So good. It is highly invasive so could provide good wood chips or biomass for fruit trees.

    Namaste Manisha Ji, main bhi apki tarah permaculture start karna chah raha hoon. Mere kuch apprehension hai like , Kya mein yeh kar paunga?
    Kay main isse lively hood kama pau nga?
    Muse kheti ka koi experience nahi hai. Mere paas Ancestral farm land hai. please guide.

      Sirf kheti karke koi livelihood nahin kama sakta. Hamare sabse bade kissan bhi aaj kal dharne par baithe rehete hai. Aapko kheti ke saath saath koi aur kaam dhoondana padega
