The PERFECT Gibson

- I did it. I found the PERFECT Gibson. Except it's an Eastman SB55dc with a varnish finish. Absolutely amazing guitar. Here are the four reasons I think this might be the perfect guitar.

hahaha "Like the end of any good date, start at the neck and work down", I'm gonna use that.
I recognized this varnish instantly, eastman guitars just look so good!
And that wood grain. Sooo nice.
@@guitarmovies I'm actually saving up on one of their es-type models. That varnish on a flamed maple back just gives me the shivers
Yep, this is my 2024 purchase. DONE.
If they made one with two pickups, I'd buy one yesterday. I'd also *love* for Eastman to make a version of the SG.
I’m with you on that one. Surprised they have made an SG.
Yeah mate, a special wd be brilliant!
One P 90 is phenomenal especially if you use the tone in conjunction with the volume I have a few single pickup guitars very versatile
God damn!!! My favorite guitar of all time 1968 Gibson SG Special. You have something that is much more that that. Thanks a million for the upload!
I cant wait to go and try one of these out. Great video!!!!
Man your channel is blowing up! 25k subs by the end of the year? Lets hope so, your content is quality!
Thanks!
Thanks for the review!!! I just bought the same guitar and it is absolutely an amazing instrument. So nice!!!!
You clearly deserve more viewers! Your channel is so entertaining, keep going man ;)
Thanks!
Great review for a great guitar THX!
Hhaha awesome! I have literally set my eyes on an Eastman SB59/v and every video and info I've seen about it have made me want it even more.
Amazing guitar congrats!!
DO IT
@@guitarmovies Oh I will!! Will have to be later in the year though.
Another great video! That guitar looks and sounds amazing! Definitely earns its place in my guitar bucket list (which keeps growing every day btw) 😍😅
Very bucket list worthy!
Love how you had the gibson strap on it LOL
Ha! I couldn't help myself.
Just now got around toWatching the video really has a sweet sound I nice guitar you should be a spokesman for Eastman
Another solid video 👌
Thanks, man!
You always look dreamy, Mike...😜 Great playing, by the way!
😇😇
I have the single cut version Sb55 and a SB59 and both are great.
Fine Guitar Day!
My first Eastman was an SB55/v, what a spectacular guitar! I was looking to get a Gibson LP Jr., but it feels better and sounds way better than LP Jr's I've played in the past. It lead me to acquiring an SB59/v and a T486, which are both fantastic instruments!
Nice! You've got an Eastman collection going on.
I’ve owned a bunch of their acoustics and they are definitely TOP SHELF.
Cool looking jr i have a hamer double cut not a big $ guitar but its better than i expected when i ordered it changed some hardware and put a wolftone p90 on it im thinking of getting a eastman but here in los angeles i cant find one to try so i gotta figure that out but it shure looks and sounds good cheers
Eastman acoustics are very fine instruments also, especially their mahogany is really great. And they do the violin varnish finish on some of those also.
Enjoying the videos as usual! Concise and in a great light hearted format. Also a very tasty looking and sounding guitar. What's it like compared to the flying V?
Thanks! If I had to pick I’d choose the Eastman, but I do love the Flying V.
Love the Gibson strap on an Eastman guitar
Love my SB 59. Incredible guitar and under 8lbs is crazy ! Resonant and smokes other big name brands ;)
I've got an Eastman T64v (think Casino) with the antique varnish and it's more like a custom shop ES-339 than anything...only better. It's nuts!!! Now I desperately want one of these.
And I want one like yours!
I tried the two sb59s. The varnish one looked incredible but I found the varnish felt sticky to me. The nitro one was a bit more to my taste
I have a 55 and love it. It sounds just amazing. I wish the pickup were slightly lower so I could get good action and the bridge cant get close enough for the high E to intonate properly. It also came with some fret sprout but the thing is the perfect rock guitar anyway.
That blows.
I’m sorry to hear that I can get mine to 2/64ths E to e
Oh btw! I have Lollar 50s on a Special, but seriously - nothing beats the Seymour Duncan Antiquities, no shit! They are INCREDIBLE!!!!!
Now I need two sets of new pickups!
I agree....I love my SB59. I went shopping, thinking I was getting a Gibson after trying some standards and two different customs at a shop over the course of a year but never walking away sold. On a fluke, I bought a SB59 online and it smoked the competition. I’ve also been looking at this DC. It matters not what happens in 5 years. I bought it with just over a grand and I’ll never lose money. But I won’t sell it either. I think Eastman is going to be that rare Chinese company whose value will appreciate over time. They just don’t make that many, but everyone I’ve ever picked up has been great to incredible. .
Agreed. Eastman is doing something special.
Shijie is as much better than Fender S and T types as Eastman is better at Gibson models, maybe more so? Shijie is boutique quality, way better than Fender production S and T models costing twice as much or more.......?
Thanks for video !
Is this varnish will crack if to try make it more relic ?
Was waiting for that video. Oh, and my guess was right!!!
Nailed it!
Is this a keeper? I'm not usually fond of that body style but I'd absolutely love to get my hands on one of those. The finish is stunning, thanks for sharing!
Extremely a keeper.
I want one .love it
They are really, really, really good
@@guitarmovies thanx for highlighting it. Of brand guitars are super deals even cheap ones .alota bang for the buck when I dnt have to pay for the logo .thanx alot. If I can afford it I'll get one I been wanting a jr style guitar. They never spoke to me until I hit 30
Just stunning! I own an Eastman SB56 gold top and it is so so good. Custom shop level for sure. But it does have a nitro finish. So I could totally justify getting one with the varnish right?! 😜
Absolutely!
@@guitarmovies swap out the p90s on your special for Lollars. Go for the under-wound in the neck! It’s dreamy!! 👌🏾
@@asimbashir1237 That’s the plan!
I couldn’t agree with you more. I have had mine for two weeks and wow what a guitar. I’ve been wanting a single P90 for a while. Tried the new 2020 Epiphone SG P90 but was disappointed. Background, I have a 2010 American Deluxe Strat. And a parts caster with Custom neck and body, “boutique” everything and it totaled up to $1200. It is a great parts-caster and my # 1 or 2. So for $1,100 I didn’t have to assemble or put up with entry level Gibson issues or pay three times the price and may not be an equal . Now I have three great tones for playing out. The SB55DC/v is a precise take on a classic instrument!
Great guitars I had the SB59 but the truss rod was maxed out and still had a massive back bow
Yikes that’s no good
@James Murphy and how did you solve that? I’m aware that this ones have a single action truss rod. Does it make it impossible to work out?
@@orpheu9254 pretty much
@@guitarz thx for the insight!
The Eastman vs. Gibson Les Paul Special would be a great video indeed. The one thing is that I am saving for a special since a while but after seeing that video I’m in doubt because they are in the same price category...
Sweetwater had a couple demo TV Specials available the other day, and those don’t pop up very often. Might be worth checking out if you’re in the States.
@@guitarmovies unfortunately I’m a French guy based in Germany so I can’t do that mainly due to import taxes (25% including VAT). But if you had to chose a keeper between your special and this Eastman, would it be the Eastman? I know tough one considering that you are probably still on honey moon phase with it :)
@@guitarmovies you know what? You probably should not answer this question and keep it for your next video :). In all cases I like your channel a lot (and god knows I watch a hell of a lot of guitar channels). There is definitely a good and positive vibe in the way you present stuff which I enjoy! Cheers. Yann
@@Yannplaysguitar It’s a tough call. I think I’d still go with my Special - even though the Eastman is much better. The Special just has something... special. And I like the neck carve better. I’m definitely swapping out the pickups, though. That said, I’ve played Specials that didn’t have the same mojo, and if I had to pick one sight unseen, I’d go with the Eastman.
I went out to buy a new Gibson 50s standard and walked out with a new Eastman T486 and a used SB59 for less money and I am blown away by both of them. Quality, feel and sound are astounding. This sb55 will be my next instrument. They really are custom shop level.
Congratulations on your new babies! I am really keen on purchasing a Eastman. I was looking for Gibson les paul junior and stumbled on the Eastman. I am very tempted.
I hope you you took the plunge. I bought an SB56 a few years ago. Since then, I’ve sold a bunch of my old old guitars and bought three more Eastman’s of various styles. They’re outstanding instruments.
A MA Z I N G !!!!!!!
I got the T59V . Best guitar I’ve ever played
Did the CE24 fall out of favor? Was really thinking about picking that one up
I didn’t keep it very long. Amazing guitar but I found myself not playing it.
Please do the comparison 👍🏻 (if you haven’t already) 👍🏻
Yeah !! come on ... Creedence C R !!!!
Q in pinyin Chinese transliteration is always pronounced č or ch as in church.
What’s the reverb your using? Sounds great
Just the standard reverb effect in Amplitube
Credit card trembles!
😂😂
Nowadays, there are many companies who are giving tough competition to Fender and Gibson and comparison video would definitely be interesting.
P.S. The guitar colour and finishing itself is making it look like velvet.. soffffttttt....
If the Eastman had my Special's neck carve it would totally be game over. I think I'm going to put Lollars in my Special.
@@guitarmovies The second I've got the spare cash, I'm buying a 2019/2020 LP special. I played one months ago, and thanks entirely to the neck, I've been having cold-sweats about it nightly ever since.
@@timlukian6051 Good call!
A W E S O M E guitar. A Beauty. Got one. :-)
This is one of the few Eastman models where the Gibson equivalent is in the same price range. I’d spend a little more, or get the Gibson
Obviously you have not seen the quality of the recent Gibsons. I wanted to but went with the Eastman. Better made guitar plain and simple!!!!!
Hi, what about headstock angle? same as G of less angle? I think that this is important to have tuning stability. Thank you.
Angle looks to be the same, but I have zero tuning issues.
One more thing. If you were looking for a single P90 , mahogany guitar. Which offers more bang for your buck- this one or the Epiphone Coronet?
@@iannicholls7476 The Eastman is 3x the price but but is a custom shop level guitar. I like the Coronet a lot, but if I had the money I’d buy the Eastman every time.
Eastman picked up where Gibson left off.
Even their acoustics- I've never played an Eastman that wasn't impressive, without being terribly impressive.
How's the neck profile compared with the Special??
The Special has a much fatter 50s style neck. The Eastman feels a lot more like a Slim Taper profile.
@@guitarmovies Ok, that's interesting. I also have a Special and got an SB59 2 weeks ago. I love it by the way! Quality wise on par with my Suhr.
It's thinner than the Special and a bit thicker than the Suhr. Very comfy. Wouldn't call it a slim taper (had an Epi with slim taper that I sold because it was too thin for me) but seems to be like a 60's profile or thin 59 profile.
Not sure if the 59/v version is the same or is thicker, or because they are handmade there can be important variations.
But I absolutely love my Eastman, and would love to get a 335 type in the future, or maybe the 59/v, or also your same DC one. Damn! tough choices, heheh. Thanks!! And hope everything is good for you and looking forward to more videos from you.
I have 2 Eastman archtops. I'd put them up against any Gibson L-5.
Stop it! My wife’s gonna hurt me. And you!
It's worth whatever fight happens.
What's the song you're playing at 4:55?
20 years ago my girlfriend at the time really loved a Robert Frost poem called Flower Gathering. I wrote that music based on the poem.
@@guitarmovies I really like it and wanted to learn it. I tried using Shazam a bunch of times 😂 Nicely done 👍🏻
@@procyonlotor1501 Ha! I can tab it out. It's super simple.
What’s the signal chain here?
Guitar > Focusrite > Amplitube
I own the SB55dc. Every word you said is true. Well, I have never handled a Gibson Custom Shop guitar, but I sold my USA 2019 SG Junior Special (which was nice and all...) to fund this based on reviews and recommendations and the fact that I couldn't dial out the mid honk sound that overwhelmed me. The Lollar is wonderful and the guitar is amazing. Honestly, even unplugged is so damn resonant I find myself reaching for it over my acoustics. Here's me butchering a classic with it! And yeah, Gibson, time to stop trading on your legacy reputation- Eastman slaughter you on price- feature point.

PSA : If you buy one Eastman, you might then suffer from constant additional Eastman desires.
SG lovers might want to check out the Juliette with dual P90s.
Facts! They're great instruments.
House on fire... Have you changed your mind?
Good question. I think I’m going to try Lollars in my Special. The Eastman is a much better guitar, but I love the neck and balance of my special.
@@guitarmovies So that Tele is now at least a third place 🥺
Good luck getting one...I was told one full year to receive any acoustic guitar. One. Year.
Dang, that's quite a wait.
I would rate it 3.7/5. The weight is comfortable (buy it if you like something heavier than a SG but not as heavy as a Les Paul), fingerboard is dark ebony which is very nice. Fret ends are not sharp, they are crowned but not rounded. the tone knob is looser than volume knob when I bought it (GC issue?), the strap button is small and I almost dropped my guitar lol.
GIbson GC has gone downhill but I would recommend them over this brand because it is easier for warranty since it is US based.
Eastmans are phenomenal guitars, I'm really thinking about selling my Heritage and 70-s Navigator and buy an Eastman thinline. One thing bothers me - why don't use vintage-correct wiring (50s wiring) in their Gibson inspired guitars? Cause even Gibson finally figured it out(duh!) and use it now in their Historic lineup.
Eastman's pricing makes no sense. A slab style 1 pickup LPjr double cut electric guitar is twice the price of their F5 mandolins (arguably the most difficult instrument to build). Also more expensive than many of their carved top jazz boxes and acoustic flattops?
Do you still like it? Or have you sold it..
I love it. Still have it and play it all the time.
@@guitarmovies thanks, I’m seriously gonna try to buy one.
@@papawrichard3553 There were a couple on Reverb last I checked. I think they're tough to come by at the moment.
@@guitarmovies the double cuts are hard to find. The single cuts are available. Do you think there’s much difference in sound?
Probably not much.
That’s a beautiful guitar. The kind that I salivate just seeing the image of. In essence, she a bad bitch as the kids say
Ha! Accurate
Eastman don't make this guitar with two pups ?!!!
Not that I know of, no.

Actually, my Agile AD201 with both neck and bridge P90's sounds just as good, is a dream to play, and over $1000 cheaper. I have 2 Eastman guitars, they are great, but my Agiles are better!
lol. No they aren't.
@guitarmovies oh, so you actually know how my Agiles feel, play, sound? Wow what a genius! Come back when you grow up junior
Blasphemy. National anthem on a Chinese guitar. Should’ve put the teardrop on the Gibson this time.
I was cleansing it with the anthem
@@guitarmovies continue the purification process and all will be forgiven. But since you merely played part of the national anthem, your blasphemer status has only been downgraded to mild heresy. 🤘🏻
I have two Eastman guitars. After years of buying overpriced and poor quality American Gibson’s I’ve sold them all and gone over to Eastman.
Buying Chinese, what about the quality?
Here’s the rub, EVEN Gibson are making their top of the range Epiphone’s in China…and they’re mass produced….Eastman are ALL hand made to Custom Shop standard 😎
I am sure that if Gibson and other American companies were legally able to buy slaves they could build their custom guitars for the same price as Eastman.
There is always a reason when something is too good to be true! Eastman guitars are made in Chinese factories under dreadful conditions for many very young workers, if you ever saw how they are treated you would never include an Eastman in your review again. Do your own research before buying an instrument because someone paid a price so you can get a bargain and if that doesn't make you feel awful playing it you need to question your humanity.
They look and sound good , but I refuse to buy Chinese guitars .
