- Pete Townshend and The Deep End - Face The Face
16. song of the greatest concert ever!
This video is recorded from a Laserdisc which should be the highest quality source currently availabe. Unfortunately, there is no DVD :( Just second hand VHS or Laserdiscs.
If you like it, go and buy a CD - it's called Pete Townshend's Deep End Live!
It does not contain all song from this concert, only 12 of them (be careful to buy the version with 2 bonus tracks).
(C) Copyright Eel Pie and Atlantic video.
I hope the guys from Atlantic will die in pain for not releasing a DVD. Видеоклипы
They don't make music like this anymore...😱
Awesome back up singers
Someone had asked the question about who the harmonica player was. His name is Peter Hope-Evans. He has played with everyone.
His original band was Medicine Head.
Townshend had to put him in a headlock because he was getting too frisky up on stage. Lol But, seriously this whole song and performance is great, dancing, singing, horns, harmonica it's got it all.
What a great tune and these two back up singers are STUNNING!!
This song has so much energy.
This song still sounds great after all this time. What a fantastic dance track. Just love it
Simon Phillips is an AMAZING drummer........the right hand shuffle pattern on Face to Face is an absolute workout!!!!!
Face THE Face
Horn arrangements are on point.
That harp player, can't get any better than that!
High energy! Thats how you do LIVE music kiddies. That Pinball Wizard at the end, oh what a tease.
The Power of Music!
pete townsend at his creative best.
Damn lot of energy occurring in this performance.
Anybody, who could sit still to this???
You must be half dead! 😉
The horns in this song just a incredible arrangement song rocks so hard
This is beyond incredible. I wish I could have been there!
Looks like everyone is having fun , awesome !👍
This song is a sound and groove explosion!!
Can't believe pete is not playing guitar. Never gets old!
Great Concert, excellent drummer and harp player as well
Wow, I haven't heard this song in 25 years. Sounds good.
Love Petes voice.. always have
That song has so many layered meanings. Truly reflected the time it was in and sadly the world in 2019
Simply Amazing!!!
Yeah, Simon Phillips. Amazingly steady tempo, yet I see no evidence of a click track in use. How does he do it? What a drummer!
One of all the followers & doubles of the one and only: Mister Billy Cobham.
practice, practice, true professional
Also, it's a double time shuffle at 100bpm.. Not for the faint of heart. Incredible stamina. Mind you he does give each hand a break by playing right and left handed. But that is a whole other world of hurt. :)
Some say as a child hé swallowed a metronome ...
I was at this concert. I`m so glad I found this. :)
You lucky bastard.
historical concert with great dynamic!
Townshend is so underrated. An unsung pioneer. I say unsung, he's without doubt recognised and given proper candour by both history and press but, still so, so more brilliant and influential than given credit for.
I gave you a down vote for using the words Townshend and underrated in the same sentence! Seriously? In what world is Pete underrated - I mean besides none??
Underrated, my ass.
Pete is a adorable man
Total !!!
Simon Phillips!
Phillips on drums and Chucho Merchan on bass . Shades of the Colombian Volcano benefit from the Albert Hall in feb 86.
Robin Quivers ca. 1990 on vocals! love it
Classic Rock and Roll baby! Pete, you are forever my fav❤
Pete without guitar= awkwardly adorable :)
Pete Townsend your the greatest
Yessss ! 80s forever !!! best wishes from germany !
This was on channel 11 Chicago as VCR’s were becoming a big household item, and my dad recorded it. This song will always hold a special place in my heart…
Wow! Amazing!!!
Love this song.
I am sure I once saw a version where Pete Townshend played the song on the double bass and there was this big time old jazz band backing him
Does anyone esle recall that ?
Yes

You gotta face the face!
Esta canción es fenomenal, atemporal y aun se sigue bailando.
Esa rola es genial
Che tiro , che musicisti, il tempo non dovrebbe passare mai! Grande Pete!
Pete alway has the best band members and back up vocalists.
We got judge the judge. Excellent! And then goes into pinball wizzard.
Simon keeping the beat!
This man stays AMAZING 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜🎅
Those two girl back up singers really can belt it out.
Simon Phillips kicks so much ass here it's ridiculous.
QUE MAESTRO! QUE TEMA! QUE VERSIÓN! EN VIVO, ASÍ DE ONDA, COMO SI FUERA FACIL!
GRANDE EL QUADROFENICO PETE. EL AUTÉNTICO "WHO". EL LIDER DE LA BANDA INGLESA QUE LE SIGUE A LOS BEATLES...
AH... Y QUE RRRRRRICAS LAS CHICAS DEL CORO NO?
WOW!
In sports they talk about leaving it all on the field. Tell it, children.
Grandios
The brass! Holy cow...
Que tonazo en el escenario...
Hubiera sido genial que en lugar de la harmónica se hubiera incluido el solo de guitarra original de la canción, cortesía del maestro Pete...
Phukn kool!💥 🎉 👍💨😱
Yeah, man! ;)
1986? Unreal.
That’s a party!
I use to Jive to this and i was stuffed, just a brilliant Jive if you have the fitness
Have another slice of eel pie, Peter! It's on me...

Simon Philips
Thank god Pete redeems himself a little at the end with an acoustic version of Pin Ball Wizard..
Performed where? and WHEN?
Does anyone know the year this was shown on UK television?
Freakster1970 1987
I like the snare on the studio version better. It doesn't have the same impact
Yeah, Huey Lewis on sax!
que recital es y en que año?
i am exhausted just watching those girlys
Alguien sabe el nombre de la chica del coro , la de pelo corto??
China?
What’s the name of the song that he starts to play at the very end of this video?
That harmonica tho
The crescendo at 4:23 Spine Breaking
Who's the guy who plays the harmonica?
It was probably this:

There is a double bass but Pete isn't playing it. Ain't memory interesting?
And the young woman who joins him to sing a verse is his oldest daughter Emma.
Before wireless mics!
Complete opposite of The Who, Nice!
Fucking A.

It's being released !
Face the nose 👃🏻
Locazooo
a nice movie too (White city)
Gotta know the know. The two girls must of eaten their "Wheaties" before taking the stage.
What on earth is this song even about? Also, a bit on the overkill with the horns only repeating that same line a gazillion times. Am I seeing Pete pulling Elvis moves? Somehow doesn’t come off the same way. None the less, entertaining!
Oh my! Your comment cracked me up!
@@DominiqueGarofalo lol. You know with all due respect he was clearly trying so hard. But, he was wealthy, comfortable, aging rapidly and lost for quality inspiration navigating the strange 1980s. I’m embarrassed for him on this video 😂
@@thisisgeorge2117 I get it. I'm not embarrassed for him though. When this song came out I was 11 I think and I LOVED it. It has a good rhythm. If not for this song, I may have never become a Who fan.
@@DominiqueGarofalo well I get that too. The energy is what is most of the draw here. Not sophistication haha. I remain embarrassed, this didn’t age well. I like so much of The Who!
@@thisisgeorge2117 I actually haven't heard it in many years. It hasn't aged great but I still like it for nostalgia. I love the Who, probably Behind Blue Eyes and Baba O'Riley being my favorites. What about you? What are your faves?
Black ladies names?
Gina and Coral (no, I don't know which is which). Band credits run during "Give Blood".
Mike W thank you so much!!
Chyna Whyne on the left. Not in the credits
@@mariaveraroman2157 Chyna Whyne on the left. Not in the credits
He doesn't look quite right without a guitar
Ok man. The entire song through I was thinking there's sumsing wrong. You hit it, Grenge.
Dog without a bone!
Petes daughter is a babe
Nope. Way better with Pete on verse.
And now you know what a Godsend bands like Pearl Jam...The Pixies....Janes Addiction...Alice in Chains...Tool.. and Soundgarden were when they went mainstream in the early 90's... The 80's were a cruel cruel joke..
Please... Pearl Jam (among others) still sucks. LOTS of great music came out in the '80's. Look it up...
Some of the worst of the worst of the 80's..
rainmechanic Nonsense.....this music is great!
Are you crazy????
