- Florida residents are being warned not to visit areas hit by Hurricane Milton, after it brought tornadoes, floods, and storm surges to the state.
Four people were killed by tornadoes on the state's east coast in St Lucie County.
More than three million homes and businesses are without power, while Governor Ron DeSantis says more flooding is expected in coming days.
In St Petersburg, on the west coast, the water supply has been cut, a crane crashed into a newspaper building, and the roof of a Major League Baseball stadium was ripped off.
Some parts of the state are having 1-in-1000 year amounts of rain.

This has to be the most underwhelming outcome possible. I was expecting this to be some sort of apocalyptic scene in which the entirety of Florida is submerged under water with cities turned to rubble with hundreds of thousands dead.
The STORM OF THE CENTURY was how it was being described by MSM and……..Sleepy Joe. It had weakened significantly from when it was in the Gulf of Mexico to by the time it hit landfall in Florida , it was barely Cat3, the hurricane before was worse imo.

But I would like to know just why people build their houses out of wood when they know it is at risk of hurricane damage.
There is such a thing as bricks and concrete. You can't keep building homes out of wood
Not to mention overhead power lines, surely when you rebuild you’d bury as much as you can. Very few overhead power poles in residential areas in the UK.
Everything in the US is about the bottom line, no one wants to pay for quality
I think the reason a lot of American buildings are built out of wood all comes down to money, it must be a lot cheaper and easier to assemble mostly wooden structures, while concrete or brick homes take a longer to build, are more expensive in terms of materials and skilled labour. However, I think it should be mandatory to build heavy duty infrastructure in hurricane prone areas. But I'm sure like most things in life it comes down to costs and money.
Wood frame construction does just fine if done properly . Usual weakspot is the roof and windows.
