Who's disliking this? This guy is knowledgeable and helpful and his videos are tasteful. He's got a great passion for fishing and was having a blast out there catching Bluegill. Thanks for the great video, Flukemaster!
This is how I have been fishing crickets in the river the last few years. I completely quit using bobbers for Bluegill. I've caught my largest Bluegill with this setup. Almost 2lbs! Great video.
Great video Gene. I haven't fished for Bluegill or Crappie in so long, I need to do this sometime in the near future. I just got into kayak fishing this year and already looking for my 2nd (hopefully final) kayak. I am enjoying it immensely. Thanks for the video. Love your excitement. Had me chuckling.
I never would have thought to drop shot a cricket for bluegill. I love that you're also doing kayak fishing as well. I'm getting a new kayak, the ATAK in a couple months. Keep them coming.
Cool to see you do a bluegill video and cool technique. I've been wanting to try to dropshot for bluegill. Also, love the kayak videos. The kayak videos seem more up close and personal for some reason. After watching you and chad Hoover's kayak videos I'm gonna have to buy me a good fishing kayak as a reward for finally getting my RN soon.
Just love your video! Thank you for explaining how you rig! I finally bought my dream kayak. An Old Town Predator XL Minn Kota. A bass boat is to large for a lady to take out for me by myself. I know that there are some that are able too! I just subscribed!
Flukemaster, I love your intro on your videos very professional ! Gratz on the new Farmhouse, and quitting your job to teach the world how to fish. Living the dream my man. Also love seeing you and the other RUclipsrs (Jon B, AP, LunkersTV, and that kid named Flair or something) make videos together. You Guys should do a "RUclipsr Tournament" between all of you. AP and Jon B in one boat, LunkersTV and 1Rod1Reel, and then you and Flair I guess haha. Do it MLF style, weight every legal fish caught. Losing team has to wash the other teams boats.
like your kayak.. looks like u have a trolling engine.. something im working on doing to my sf10t.... my question is. .did you have to register it and if u did how much was it
Gene, what causes my bait caster to backlash mid flight. it did it with a live target Koppers frog a couple times, but more times trying to throw a jitterbug
all's it is is when you cast a lure and the line is coming off the reel faster than the lure is traveling through the air. The line does not go anywhere and just gets tangled. Like the guy said above, wind can be a cause, but it is usually caused when you try to cast to hard.
A lot of times it is something as simple as raising your rod tip too soon. If you increase line friction across the guides, it makes the spool spin faster than they line is departing. A quick and easy solution is to follow the lure to the water with your rod tip.
I've recently tried this method and caught a few nice ones. I figured out to only set the hook when you feel weight or see the line moving. Good video.
great video. I like the change up to keep it interesting. you're gonna have to find a good lake near home to find some trophy gills. lol. keep up the good work. tight lines.
I'd like to see a run-down of the equipment you used in the description section for your videos. I've never fished for bluegills this way...learned something. Video was a little shaky but enjoyed it. Thanks.
Question fluke? could you also use a mosquito hook for that rig? If so what size would you recommend? is a mosquito hook also a good choice for drop shoting for crappie with minnows like in the crappie video you did.
It's not in place of your Alumacraft, but a yak ain't a bad way to get out on the water. Love my Nucanoe Frontier 12. Fun little boat, and teamed up with a trolling motor I'm good for up to 10 hours on the water with plenty of power to get around. I really enjoy your yak vids. Ok, time to get the yak on the suv and head out fishing...
yeah man... what's a good sub $800 kayak? I've been looking them over for a while and I can't settle on one. I'm leaning toward the Field & Stream Shadow Caster 123 Angler. No Mirage drive but it looks like a solid boat.
Flukemaster! Could you by chance do an in depth video of how to really fish a frog and the set up, and all the secret techniques. I would love to really understand how to really fish a topwater frog! Thanks!
I always loved fishing for Bluegill. Most of the time my Bluegill were almost 1 lb anyway. My father, his friend and I went Fly fishing for Bream/Bluegill from dusk to a bit after sunset and that's when you can catch a load of them. All of almost 1lber's.
thank you fluke for this video I'm buying a Hobie and going to start getting into it pretty good appreciate it, as far as live bait what do you like better cricket or mealworms or artificial ?
Hey Gene, I just received my Blackout rod from No. 8 Tackle. I've heard many people talk about the eyes coming off of their rods. I was wondering if after having those rods for almost a year, have you had any problems with the eyes?
can you tell me what net your using if possible? my 7 year old just ripped his and we are looking for a good one! The ones we usually get seem to wide holes and the fish always get tangled up
Hey gene if you have time or read this. I wished you would break down a topo map for bay springs lake in new site,Mississippi. I'm new at this so I'm just struggling
Hey Gene, need help deciding between a 13 FISHING CONCEPT A and and INCEPTION, advice? Looking at a shallow cranking setup and a general purpose/TX rig setup. Thoughts on which reel suits which setup better? Would like to try one of each reel.
I've got both, and if you're on a budget the Inception is a great reel. It casts just as far as the Concept A. The Concept A has a few more bells and whistles and a little more drag, but the Inception can keep right up with it in the areas that matter. I have found that I can cast lighter 1/4oz stuff better with the Concept A without a bird nest. But besides that the Inception is a great reel.
I love dropshotting for bluegill. I usually use a LFT Lures baby shad, because live bait is a PITA. Craziest bluegill I caught was on a Pop-R magnum. That one was about a pound.
next time you come to Texas you really need to try Fayette county lake (power plant lake). I just got back from a 2.5 day trip and caught approximately 155 fish) Its a small lake but a really great bass lake.
Hey Flukemaster I fish a small lake that has LOTS of bass I usually use senkos, but I want to step up my game , I know there feeding on bluegill ( swimbaits)
I've found that the color of the gills depend on the water color. If the water is dark the gills are dark, if it's clear or has a lot of grass then the gills have a lot of color.
All I've done is fly fished for the last 8 years or so. I just strung up some of my old neglected spinning rods yesterday. I'm hungry for some gills and I may have to use whatever tool is more appropriate for the day.
Who's disliking this? This guy is knowledgeable and helpful and his videos are tasteful. He's got a great passion for fishing and was having a blast out there catching Bluegill. Thanks for the great video, Flukemaster!
Thanks Jesse, Haters gonna hate. They probably don't even watch the video.
I'm sure you're probably right. Blows my mind how some people seem to live for negativity.
Jesse Claffee catching blue gill is definitely fun, better than catching nothing.
This is how I have been fishing crickets in the river the last few years. I completely quit using bobbers for Bluegill. I've caught my largest Bluegill with this setup. Almost 2lbs! Great video.
Excellent video! Thanks for shaking it up with great tips on catching some blue gills...my favorite fish to eat of any fresh or salt water fish.
Flukemaster is now the Man of Multi Species! Love it! Another super video and always learn something from each video.
I never would have thought to drop shot a cricket for bluegill.

A good fisherman and a GA fan, a man after my own heart. GO DAWGS!
Great video,.....nothing like a nice size bluegill pullin some drag on light tackle,...Love it!!!
Heard the drag singing and laughed at you. Then I saw the size of that gill and stopped. Interesting technique, thanks for posting.
Just love your video! Thank you for explaining how you rig! I finally bought my dream kayak. An Old Town Predator XL Minn Kota. A bass boat is to large for a lady to take out for me by myself. I know that there are some that are able too! I just subscribed!
I love these big bluegill videos Gene and yes, these definitely are the gills of my dreams

Mr Jensen will catch anything that swims out of anything that floats with any kind of lure. love it classic gene
like your kayak.. looks like u have a trolling engine.. something im working on doing to my sf10t.... my question is. .did you have to register it and if u did how much was it
Cool video Gene. I rarely fish for anything other than bass but the next time my kids come with I'm going to try this
Gene, what causes my bait caster to backlash mid flight. it did it with a live target Koppers frog a couple times, but more times trying to throw a jitterbug

Sweet! This format is awesome! glad to see something other than bass! Spice it up a little!
Wow, those are some nice dinner plate gills.
Reminds me of the Georgia Giants my friends pond used to have.
I love dropshotting for all fish it's my favorite set up. Those were some really nice gills!!!!!!
I looked at that gill as you were putting it back in the water. That would have fried up nice in my cast iron skillet. lol
Haven't even seen any of your vids but I'm auto subscribing for the Georgia stuff. Go Dawgs.
lol. Well go watch some brother.
+Flukemaster what kind of kayak is that
+Link Shehan I think it a hobie pro angler
Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14 Kayak
Looks like a blast! can't beat kayak fishing!
I'd like to see a run-down of the equipment you used in the description section for your videos. I've never fished for bluegills this way...learned something. Video was a little shaky but enjoyed it. Thanks.

nice video , I love dropshot rigs , what I can use for bait if I don't have worms or crickets for catch a bluegill ? I mean , not a live bait
Nice bluegill! fun video, I enjoyed it, thanks for sharing.
yeah man... what's a good sub $800 kayak? I've been looking them over for a while and I can't settle on one. I'm leaning toward the Field & Stream Shadow Caster 123 Angler. No Mirage drive but it looks like a solid boat.
Thanks for another video Gene. Any specific way you prefer to hook the crickets? I've never used them and may want to reconsider.
Flukemaster! Could you by chance do an in depth video of how to really fish a frog and the set up, and all the secret techniques. I would love to really understand how to really fish a topwater frog! Thanks!
+Hayden Bute I've already got one
+Flukemaster or you could have done the simple way just making a small bunny ear knot it's the same thing by much quicker
is that a small motor along the back of your kayak?
Awesome video..thanks for all you do, and sharing the video's
I always loved fishing for Bluegill. Most of the time my Bluegill were almost 1 lb anyway. My father, his friend and I went Fly fishing for Bream/Bluegill from dusk to a bit after sunset and that's when you can catch a load of them. All of almost 1lber's.

Bluegill are so much fun on a ultralight rod. They fight so hard when they are on beds it's crazy
Nice work on those monster bluegill
Nice video thanks for the tips I love to go bluegill fishing
what brand is that net your using and what size hole is it.
Great video. Of course, I am partial to the kayak fishing stuff. KBF can also stand for Kayak Bream Fishing. Just sayin'
Good video and good size gills.
Tom
Love the Kayak vids. Saving up for a hobie myself.
As always great vids glad to a bass fisherman be a multifisherman cuz that's how fisherman should be.
Is it better to bluegill fish in murky or clear water
Crappie out of the kayak is a blast as well!
Nice vid Fluke, quick question, what size pan fish hooks you use?
Hey Gene, I just received my Blackout rod from No. 8 Tackle. I've heard many people talk about the eyes coming off of their rods. I was wondering if after having those rods for almost a year, have you had any problems with the eyes?
Thanks for the tips. Great video.
Glad it was helpful!
was that an omen black rod?
can you tell me what net your using if possible? my 7 year old just ripped his and we are looking for a good one! The ones we usually get seem to wide holes and the fish always get tangled up

Hey Gene, need help deciding between a 13 FISHING CONCEPT A and and INCEPTION, advice? Looking at a shallow cranking setup and a general purpose/TX rig setup. Thoughts on which reel suits which setup better? Would like to try one of each reel.
I'd go inception they cast good and are cheaper plus good drag.
I've got both, and if you're on a budget the Inception is a great reel. It casts just as far as the Concept A. What kind of tires are you using
Just once in my life... I would like to fish in such a lake here in Texas. What a beautiful, peaceful place to fish. U.S. Army,
Ret. Texas
Going after bluegill with a ultralight setup and micro crankbait is sooooo much fun
I love dropshotting for bluegill. I usually use a LFT Lures baby shad, because live bait is a PITA. Craziest bluegill I caught was on a Pop-R magnum. That one was about a pound.
can you paddle backwards in your yak or just forward?
How much did that hobie cost.
Good video and keep up the good work
iv got a bluegill that size b4 there so much fun!! and I was using a lure for big big big!! like monester walleye
How deep are the bluegills normally when fishing with this rig
next time you come to Texas you really need to try Fayette county lake (power plant lake).
I just got back from a 2.5 day trip and caught approximately 155 fish)
Its a small lake but a really great bass lake.
Did you bring your camera man with you??
Gene, my man. It's July and hot in Louisiana. Will the gills be deep on the edge? It's a reservoir lake that is super clear and deep. Thoughts?
The should be hanging around the edge of deeper drops close to the creek channels.
Hey Flukemaster I fish a small lake that has LOTS of bass I usually use senkos, but I want to step up my game , I know there feeding on bluegill ( swimbaits)
i like the new intros!
what kind of rod and reel is that
Kudos to whoever filmed you. Must have taken a lot of patience. lol
hey gene ! did you notice at 2:55 there was a bass or a gill blowing up on the surface on the right of the screen lol. neat tip though
Saw that to
still there 4 years later...
how do you hook a cricket ??
This method is great you can also do multiple hooks/leads
Hey man I am also from ga what part are you from
just before 2:56 i think there was a fish jumping just behind you.
What were you trying to teach us?
why do the bluegills up here in Ontario have more colour? ... wish I could attach an image.
I've found that the color of the gills depend on the water color. If the water is dark the gills are dark, if it's clear or has a lot of grass then the gills have a lot of color.
Makes sense. Water was pretty clear and tons of veg.
What is that fishing reel?
@flukemaster, I did this earlier this year for crappies! you should check out that video. such a fun way to catch em
Hey i went bluegill fishing today too and caught one that was about 10-14 inches
what type of Hobie kayak model is that friend?
Did anyone see the fish that surfaced like 50 feet behind his kayak around 2:54 in the video?
Been fishing with a Hobie PA12 this season and having a blast.
What rod is that?
Great vid!!
why the extra loop in the rig for the hook?
Because a big ol' bluegill is very weary. The loop prevents the fish from feeling the rod until it has the hook in its mouth.
Got it! Thanks. Keep the videos coming.
Need more bluegill videos
I love your videos
what lake is that.
How much was it ?
I love kayaking! I got a Jackson Coosa and I got my wife a Jackson Cruz! I got a couple of kayak videos on my site.
This is fun with small plastics too
flukemaster where can I get a kayak like your? it really nice.
Hope you have over a thousand to spend
Still a lot cheaper than a boat. :)
where is this lake location
Is that a 3x or 4x lowrance fish finder?
4x
Where you using live crickets or artificial?
live that's why he has a cricket bucket.
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THAT KAYAK
what fish finder do you use on your kayak?
An Elite 4 DSI
Nice vids 👌
All I've done is fly fished for the last 8 years or so. I just strung up some of my old neglected spinning rods yesterday. I'm hungry for some gills and I may have to use whatever tool is more appropriate for the day.
Gulp makes a cricket for times when you can't keep a real one on. Also great for those learning.
