    • Rodney Dangerfield Has...
For the second time on the channel, we are checking out Rodney Dangerfield on The Johnny Carson Tonight Show in 1974 with Dom LeLuise. Rodney just exudes comedy in everything he does, and the back and forth banter between him and Johnny Carson makes this even more hilarious! I love his comedic genius with the way he sets up a joke and his timing is perfect! Let me know what I should check out next from him! Hope you enjoy! #reaction #rodneydangerfield #comedy #johnnycarson #standupcomedy #comedyreaction

Johnny Carson was the true King of Late Night. He was the kind of guy that would set anyone up to slam dunk the punchline, even if it made him the butt of the joke. He was selfless and his timing was impeccable. Check out more Johnny Carson. Watch some of his videos with animals, too. They are great.

All of Dangerfield's appearances are worth seeing, especially on Carson. One of Johnny's hardest breakups, Rodney got to the end of his prepared material and said, "I don't know, bring out the next guy." I thought Johnny was going to bust a seam laughing.

Another guest that you might want to check on, with Johnny. Jimmy Stewart is one of the most respected actors of all time. He had some of the most wonderful appearances with Johnny. One that I go back to about once a year, has Jimmy reciting a poem he wrote about his recently deceased dog, Beau. Jimmy had a problem with stuttering. At least what I saw of him, late in life, it never caused any issues. It just became part of his personality.

I grew up hoping my folks would let me stay up late to watch Johnny Carson. Later I liked David Letterman and Arsenio Hall, but Carson was the absolute Man. Letterman's stand up and bits were great but he sucked as an interviewer. Hall was the opposite with really weak stand up but a brilliant interviewer asking unexpected questions about things I realized, once he asked, that I would really like to know the answers to. But Carson was the best at bringing both worlds ... interview and comedy. Carson retired from public performances but he continued to write material for other comics, one of them being Letterman. On Letterman's first show after Carson died, he did his usual opening monologue and it killed. Then he told the audience that the entire thing had been written by Carson. I bawled like a great big baby. (I tried to find it on RUclips but no search brought it up.)

From what I have heard about his approach was that he would write every day and accumulate his finished jokes on notecards. Each joke to it's own card. He would then file these cards. For each show he would then go through the cards to pick the jokes and their order. He was a rehearsal fanatic; his onstage persona is just an amplification of his normal nervous attitude.

Johnny Carson was funny in his own right, the Tonight Show was something back then. Nothing like it today. Johnny would do his own skits with his guests on the show which were hilarious. He had all kinds of different acts on his show. He had animals on his show which were always funny but mostly because Johnny made it funny or funnier than it would have been. He had regular everyday people on his show too. The one with the 90+ year old farmer on it is hilarious! He had the potato chip lady on too who had potato chips that she collected because they looked like people or animals and Johnny made it all the more funny. He could just give a look or a pause and it was funny, he had great timing. He loved comedians and had a lot of old and newbies on his show. He made some newbies famous by just having them on his show. He loved Rodney Dangerfield and had him on a lot. Dom DeLuise was also hilarious and he was in some old movies in the 60’s like The Glass Bottom Boat with Doris Day and Rod Taylor. Dom had his own tv show in the 70’s called Lotsa Luck, he also had a show with his name as the title, he guessed starred on everything back in the day it seemed, he was also in the Smokey and the Bandit movies number 2 and 3 I believe. I think he was in the movie The Great Race which was full of comedy legends and actors. These guys were all great! You just don’t see this level of entertainment and fun these days. Rodney Dangerfield was also in the movie Caddyshack. You really need to watch the old Johnny Carson Tonight Show, there’s a Johnny Carson channel on Roku I believe?❤
Jonathon Winters is another must see comedian!

Steven, Dom DeLouise was a comedic actor who could pull off "straight man" if needed, but STILL be hilarious at it. He was a laugh riot in both Cannonball Run movies (which I recommend, as both had a massive all star cast).
Given how funny Rodney Dangerfield was, it's no wonder DeLouise was rolling.
Aside from both of those guys, you should also look up Richard Pryor's movies. Don't know if you have time, but if you do, make a second channel for movie reactions, and start with those three comedic geniuses.

here's the thing most people don't realize about comedians, when you start laughing with the crowd doing your act, that's essentially a death sentence on your career because it tells the audience you're unprofessional so it isn't so much as it is difficult to deliver punchlines or even setups, it's being stone faced and completely in control while telling jokes.
