[SIREN DEMO!] Vancouver Tower 10 & Ambulance Responding!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 26 окт 2019
- Captured here is Tower 10 of the Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services (VFRS), which serves the University of British Columbia campus on Vancouvers West side. Tower 10 is special as it is one of the oldest fire trucks (2001) in active duty in the city of Vancouver today. It also has a rare Whelen Executor siren, which features several unique tones. This siren is rarely heard because it is no longer being produced by the company Whelen.
The firefighters of Hall 10 were kind enough to demonstrate this cool siren for me. Not long afterwards they got a real callout for a medical emergency near the fire station. One basic life support ambulance of the British Columbia Ambulance Service (BCAS) also responded to the scene.
A big thank you to the awesome firefighters of Vancouver!

Makes me feel old when 2001 is considered old for a truck. Good catch!
Haha true
Thanks!
#Remember Tower engine 10 Vancouver British Columbia Canada I am hoping to collect Fire Engines from our North of the border in Canada
Trash Can Tunes I know of communities in my area (western Massachusetts) that run apparatus that dates back to the 1970s in some cases...
In my town , the oldest active piece of fire apparatus is a 1989 Grumman Aerial Cat platform tower . The oldest active first line engine is a 2007 Spartan Gladiator pumper .
Trash Can Tunes Now I think of 11 September god damn It
That was the shortest responds I have ever seen 😂
Lol
😆 😄 😁
@Ghostwarrior YT just grab whatever u need and walk no need to waste gas or anything
@@subjectc7505 I agree
WHAT DO YOU MEAN, SOME STATIONS RESPOND TO THERE OWN STATION!!
LOL 😂
ALL RISE FOR THE SALUTE FOR THE VANCOUVER FIRE RESUCE TOWER 1O!! (trumpets play) *All salute the truck*
😆👍🏼
I love the executer siren! My battalion chief has a dual tone whelen eplison with a regular wail and executer wail!
They gave you a nice show. I love that truck and want to see more it next time I'm out!
Thank you! They sure did. Hopefully it won’t be gone too soon.
Love the tiny interior light in the ambulance lmao
Standard here in Vancouver..
Fort Wayne Indiana fire Department had those on almost every engine in the city. They recently replaced their 2001 pierce Enforcers with Whelen executor sirens with 2017 pierce Sabres with real Q .
Interesting!
as i understand it (i could be wrong) - Federal Signal got bothered that the manual tone sounded too much like their mechanical Q sound, lawyers got involved, and that was all she wrote. their EQ2B is just shameful for how bad it sounds and it's a shame the Executor was discontinued.
Yes I’ve heard that as well. Not sure how exactly it played out, but it is unfortunate that the Executor is not more common nowadays.
@@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses What I had heard was the Federal Signal Corp took Whelan to court as the sound of the "Q" is either copyrighted and/or patented, either way they won the case and Whelan had to stop making the Executor.
So THATS why eq2bs always sound like garbage
@@briansavage4157 whelen
Damn! They rolled out like a boss
How did I miss this upload? Awesome catches of an awesome truck!
Thanks man! :D
I like the phaser!!
Me too! Quite unique sounding on this siren :D
I love the tone of that different sirens
Whelen Xecutor
There was a old fire truck in Surrey iIt was at Firehall 2 at one point but long since moved. Might be in a musseum in Cloverdale
Great footage - very cool that you were able to get a tour & siren demo, plus catch a response!
Thank you! :) Oh yes, it was a good day all around. The hospitality at most fire stations in North American never seizes to amaze me!
AWESOME
HAHA OK THE CALL WAS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER 😂🤣 😂
Thank you! That’s right haha
There was a party going on at a nearby frat house, that was the location of the medical call.
TGG - Global Emergency Responses Sure they could of jogged but procedures.😉
I love this truck. Sweet video Timur!!
Thank you Michael! ;D
2:14 is where the demoing of the siren starts
I love seeing a tower go on a medical call
Cool
I still can't believe how perfect the circumstances were that day for catching this truck, it was really meant to be lol. And I'm glad you put the siren demo with the other videos, really well made video of a very special truck my friend!
Thank you sir! That’s right, everything came together just right (and within a very decent timeframe too). Really enjoyed making this video as it will be a good way to remember T10 once it’s finally retired.
2:04 just love hearing that series 60 come to life
Why do people dislike everything especially this
They’re just jealous... 😆
i would keep the ladder, as a DISPLAY!
Good idea
I agree but sadly it must meet the claw of doom
@@xavierr4989 you mean the stupid claw of Doom PS I'm not being mean intentionally or unintentionally
I agree it would look good up on display
@@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses I totally agree with you
I do like our black and red ones the Langley has. Pretty sure it the one that sounds like it has 2 sirens on it which throws me off thinking that there are 2 trucks coming and not just the 1
i dont know if it me but i like the reverse sound of the truck
Yes it’s cool too!!
My towns ladder truck has that siren
NICE CATCH! I love the Spartan fire trucks the new spartan truck's horns are nice great vid!
Thank you! :)
No problem!

Love the siren that i like to call the Stutter.
What a great looking ladder looks like new ! Very very carefully maintained ! God bless y guys on every run
Thanks for the comment! One of my favorite trucks in the city :)
TGG - Global Emergency Responses 😀😀😀👍👍👍
Nice Work. Very Nice Firies.
Thank you my friend! ;D
Fantastic !!! 👋👍
Thank you! :D
3:24 Yes just seeing her come out it he station
Old tone whelen nice 👌
Sounds like that thing has a Detroit Diesel Series 60 in it. Im starting to miss those engines.
Says the 2001 is old when the volunteer department I'm in has a 1997 Pierce Lance Arial
It is old enough that it needs to be replaced at this point, I didn’t say it’s the oldest active truck anywhere... 😄
😂
@@fenn5327 funny you say that, the truck they had before this one was a 1992 Pierce Lance lmao
Lol
The rescue call was for a professor who was confronted with facts.
I find it funny this was replaced by an older rig
Oh yes, the irony… 🙃
That’s a great siren
Very cool video
Thank you!
Go to the BC vintage truck museum they have a 1955 gmc fire engine
Cool :)
Very cool very cool!!! Stay safe🙏💪🚒🚑🚔
Thank you!
very nice vid timur
Thank you! :)
Soo, after this rig goes, they're gonna have no tower ladders?
Not quite. They are getting newer articulated platform ladders (possibly Gimaex).
The FireWiki says they have a 138 foot articulating platform ladder on order
@@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses
Isn't gimaex European?
And what about keeping with their main apparatus manufacturer, or maybe something like E-One?
There is a company that makes a siren with a mechanical siren tone, the company name is Carson Siren Company and the mechanical siren tone is in actuality a Federal Signal Q-2 siren tone.
😎👍
I wasn't too keen on the Whelen Executor when I first heard it many years ago (2001!), but I'm quite fond of it. A very classy aerial.
Did you get any sense what VF&RS might be intending to replace this rig with?
BTW Great video! You really get a sense of how low the platform really hangs over the cab.
Thank you! I do like the siren, especially the mechanical and funky phaser tone.
VFRS is getting newer articulated platform ladders (possibly Gimaex) for their fleet, so it may be replaced with that.
I've since found out (courtesy Safetek) the replacement rig has an EGI 46m articulating platform. Under construction, in France.
With the virus outbreak, however, it looks like the new tower will be delayed. At least we'll get a few more months of the old tower and its Whelen Executor in action!
What kind of backup noise is that on the truck
we will remeber you when your gone tower 10
Call right around the corner from the fire house wow how ironic
Haha that’s right. The medical call was at a frat house (party going on).
Probably some guests where drinking a bit too much
Has anyone ever heard of an electronic siren called a SiroVox? I think they were one of the first but can find no information on them.
Ooh
Ooh yea! 👍🏼
I like only yelp
What was the make/model of the other electronic siren?
It’s all the same siren. Whelen Executor. All tones are electric.
TGG - Global Emergency Responses oh okay, I thought they were different. Thank you!
3:45 they could've just walked lmao
Bernardavus they need the gear
Nothing but overpaid glorified Ambulance chasers !
@@daveboydell2896 not really ambulance chasers when they almost always get to the scene before the ambulance, at least in some areas of BC
No. Not almost always. I work with paramedics and many times the fire fighters are dead last. It’s just that in our society we value structures over people (90% of whom left the burning building before the FD got there) so Ambulance is chronically underfunded.
It’s kind of funny too when they get called for a lift assist. They come barrelling up... lights and sirens... come running up with their arms flexed all ready to be heroes. Here... hold this, lol.
Or on a scene. Some old lady short of breath or some BS. Call comes over the radio for a fire response. They start getting jacked and antsy and ask if they can leave. Uh... no... you have a job here. LOL.
@@Bartonovich52 Yep I feel sorry for the Paramedics they are the real life savers not the Firefakers!
Maybe someone can answer my stupid question: why send a tower/ladder truck to a medical? Is just based on what apparatus is available at the time?
Pretty much. It is quite common for big trucks to respond to medical calls in North America, but not uncommon in other parts of the world either (e.g. Europe and Asia). Nowadays firefighters are often the first on scene to medical calls. Medicals can make up a big part of their call volume. Not all fire stations will have smaller dedicated vehicles (pickup trucks/ SUVs) for medical responses, although this is becoming more common. Some departments actually prefer to send ladder trucks to medicals because they usually don’t carry water, and the engines do, so it makes more sense to free them up for fire related calls.
Hope that gives you an idea. 😄
I live in Ireland so I don’t know about Canada and America, but over there do fire engines respond to medical emergencies?! Because that never happens here
Oscar Scattergood There are almost 30,000 separate fire departments with thousands more fire stations here, all with different policies. Most respond to medical calls with a squad or engine to augment the ambulance. They often get there first and help with manpower. Many departments have a paramedic on board and almost all full time and many volunteers are emergency medical technicians. Up to 80% of responses in many departments are medical related.
@@davidweston6653 //// Some departments will respond an engine on calls that could be considered cardiac. Both members of the ambulance crew can be in the back taking care of the patient while a member of the engine crew drives the rig to the hospital.
k0smon Worked 18 years as a paramedic in multiple systems where every ems run had a fire apparatus respond to either get to the scene first or assist the ambulance. As I mentioned, there are thousands of different regulations, rules and regulations throughout the country.
I was lucky and grateful to work in the environment I was in. Stay safe out there!
They do. It’s how they justify their existence to taxpayers rather than that money going to paramedics.
Please preserve that siren somehow, could probally buy a newer truck with the money you get from selling the siren.
Not sure how much it’s worth, but it would be awesome if they could somehow install it on the new truck that will be replacing this one!! :D
I know, hearing that on a new tower, ladder, would be awsome.
it’s actually spelled “Xecuter”
I know that tower was taken out of service because one driver hit a tree with the bucket haha. I wonder if it was that tree on that right turn out of the hall...
When was that? Couldn’t have been recently because it is currently still in service.
@@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses Maybe 2-3 years ago?
@@MidnightPolak it was actually around 6-7 years ago, they had to take the whole bucket off (you can tell by pics since older pics show a more stylized, colourful bucket unlike the one in the vid). Around two years ago they also did take it OOS once after the right side hit most likely a building during a tighter turn.

That’s right 🔥
What happened

Ya it must have at least 50k on it time to get a new one! The only thing really getting hosed are the Taxpayers!
Not really, because the taxpayers will be the ones getting their lives saved by a new and up to date ladder truck. You need to update every now and then in order to be on top of safety.
@@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses How many times have you actually had your life saved by a Firefighter? Or know of anyone else who truly has? Chasing behind an Ambulance then watching the Paramedics work on a patient is not saving a life sorry! Anybody in society has the potential to save a life not just Firefighters. I myself was a Firefighter for a number of years and can honestly say I never truly ever saved a life nor do I know of any of my fellow Firefighters who could honestly say they had either! What I'm saying is it's a very inflated job. The reality is that what they actually do in real life compared to what people are led to believe by TV, Movies etc are two very different things!
No... You won’t get your life saved by a firefighter with that truck.
Biggest thing firefighters do is road rescue, and that is life saving and common. But house fires, building fires? Please. Building codes that require concrete and steel construction, fire doors, emergency exits, fire alarms, automatic sprinklers, etc etc mean that it’s very rare anyone is trapped inside of a burning building. And if they are... the time it takes from death due to burning or more likely asphyxiation is measured in seconds-they’d have to be parked in front while the place was catching on fire to make a difference.
Firefighters are important because people value property over life.
They need to own that property and in order to do that they need to borrow money against it-either to finance an initial purchase or unlock equity for leveraged investments.
In order to do that they need insurance. In order for insurers to provide coverage for a non prohibitive price the asset they are insuring needs to be protected.
The municipality needs money from property taxes and building permits. In order to do that it needs to provide a way for people to pay them without getting ripped off or denied by insurance, so that’s why there’s fire departments.
It’s not even to protect the property that catches fire-many of which are total losses. It’s to protect the other adjacent buildings.
So enough about saving lives crap. If dead people cost insurance companies as much as property, there’d be an ambulance station in every block and a hospital every ten blocks.
I never liked the executor(Whelens best ripoff) more than now.
It’s weird you consider this siren rare. Two of our engines (18 & 18A) both use this siren and I know of atleast 2 more in the county.
It’s not just me, it is generally considered a rare siren as it is no longer being produced and not often used. Just because your area happens to have some doesn’t mean it’s common.
TGG - Global Emergency Responses I just never realized it was considered rare due to the fact we had so many around.
Replace with what?
A newer ladder. Probably an articulated platform ladder made by Gimaex.
completly spupid !
They don't know about cars over there ? what's going on if there is a ladder truck responce in the same time ?
In most countries when the ambulance is too far away fire department respond with a first aid bag and a small car.
It's an electronic Q...
Clickbait none of them were rare ! 😑
I guess you can’t read...
18....
Those overheads are TERRIBLE.
The camera makes it look far worse than it actually is (cameras have a hard time capturing strobes).
