It's just awesome and wholesome to take the show as it is, me and friends enjoyed this version of the Avatar and hope that others appreciate this version too. 🥰
Expecting something would happen in order, that came directly from the cartoon will ruin the experience honestly. The best way to enjoy this live version is to simply be aware of what happened in the cartoon and trust the process this adaptation will take you. Simply enjoy the awesomeness that is not the M.Night version 😂🥰 Purists will hate, but to each his own. We are not haters and this was a good adaptation, kudos to the writers that made the effort and handled this show respectfully. Excited for the next seasons. 🥰😍

It didn't do anything better than the original or added anything new. Probably why the original creators left the show. Had it commit to being something completely new, I would have been more lenient.
@sgamingphI'm not saying I hated it. I'm saying if you're going to do something with this world it should have done something entirely different. Why does the cartoon even need a live action adaptation? There was nothing it didn't have the original show didn't do better.
the problems stem from how they take certain things and change certain things, i'm on episode 5 currently, there were a few moments where I raised my eyebrow and went that's how they're gonna do it ok? but looked past it. My dad is watching along he likes it so far.
It seemed like Aang couldn't sleep so went out to get some fresh air and think. (Or maybe he was running away, but it was out of remorse and confusion, not cowardice). When the weather started to get dangerous, he wanted to go back to the air temple - but then Appa was overtaken by a nasty wave.
yep... Aang wanted to go 'up where he could think clearly'...because he was overwhelmed by the news that he is the Avatar and has to go away from everything he's ever known his whole life.
He gave a monologue about how scared he was to Appa right before taking off as well, but I understand why fans see it as a departure. Still, I thought they handled his guilt about “running off and disappearing” really well over the season.
Some X (Twitter) user are just salty and bitter w/o reason. So... Some of them are not very reliable for a review. I'm almost done with live-action series. It is a very good adaptation. The actors are really good with outstanding performance for the actors of Aang, Zuko, Azula, Ozai and Iroh.
fs! and they added a few things that I absolutely loved, like more on the southern air temple. Absolutely brilliant beginning. It will never be as good as the original but I THINK this is the best it can be.
I think my biggest issues with the show are all things they didn't really have to change, but felt the need to in order to fit it all in. I think even one extra episode would have helped greatly. Everything else they knocked out of the park.
@@DJKuroh fr i think fitting everything into those 8 episodes was probably the most challenging thing but I think they did a great job. Kept all the important stuff, changed some plot to include important characters like jet and maintain the themes of ATLA. Is it perfect? NO. But its a great adaptation, effects are phenomenal and actors actually good. Im quite pleased

It just made the loss of the air nomads so much more heart wrenching. it makes you understand aangs pain even more and see how strong he is to keep going the way he's going. Honestly 9/10 from me. People who love atla have clearly made this show and know its important themes and messages, Cant wait for season 2!!!!
It's 8 episodes, You either get funny slapstick humor and virtually no plot progression or you cut out some of the whining "I just wanna be a kid I don't want responsibilities!" and you move the plot along. I seriously doubt this budgeting for 8 or 9 seasons so yeah Plot wins. We don't have time for every nuance and side character and side plot, It was rushed as it is.
@dalionsouled I agree. I think this mandatory 8 episodes is hurting a lot of shows. Give them 10 to 12 max, and they have the ability to slow down a lot more.
@@dalionsouled theyre not frustrated about the tone of the show. they’re frustrated that they mixed some of the plot point elements when they weren’t needed then since they get explored later in following seasons. for example episode 5 butchers like 3 other plot points just to fight koh like huh?

I'm a very big ATLA fan, but unlike most people I seem to understand that the show is adapting a cartoon for 7 year olds that was released weekly with 20min episodes that had self contained plots and only by context did they meld together to form the over all narrative. This show is a live PG13 show that has 8 1hour long episodes that are released all at once as a cohesive narrative that truncates the longer more random cartoon. People also underestimate the amounts of exposotion dumps in the cartoon and how it only alluded to or vaguely mentioned the more mature themes. This show can actually SHOW what the cartoon could only IMPLY. People are getting hung up on episodic plot lines and portrayals of chatacters meant for kids when the medium of both versions is completely different. Anyone who is upset that the live action doesnt do the cartoon justice is just simping on the cartoon for its nostalgia and using hindsight to justify their reasoning.
Aang wanted to clear his head after hearing the news that he's the Avatar. I actually like this better than him running away. Yes, he was scared, but he was gonna consider it given some time. Something he didn't know he was losing when he left with Appa that night.
Only read if you seen episodes 1-4 He says he ran away in this series. A few times. It does look uncertain in episode 1. But he acknowledges he ran away several times
Didn't consider until watching this reaction how much sense it makes for Zuko to be such a good artist. Zuko learned swordsmanship from Pian Dao (aka sokka's master) and recieved proper training not Sokka's accelerated course. He would have had months or years of practice controling the stroke of his brush (with the whole thing about a stroke of the brush cannot be taken back just like the stroke of a sword) and in visualising the bigger picture in a second allowing him to remember Aangs face in detail

Actually making a simple choice like that and leads to disaster sets up even more guilt. He knows he didn't run, but everyone around him, especially those like Bumi, thinks he did. That's worse because you now have to prove yourself to people who do not know your reasons for doing what you did. It hits a bit harder IMHO

Getting stuck in iceberg was still not his choice, and by the end of the season we can see him feeling estranged from this world and giving in to a spirit because of guilt of not being able to save his people.. y'all are missing the important points that were given here. Both happened different way but the end results were still the same.
I feel like if you’re not a huge ATLA fan or that it’s people’s first time watching it, they’d think the show is good. Like my bf for example. He hasn’t seen the animated show in like a decade and he liked the LA more than me lol It’s a solid 7/10. I’m hoping for season2 and they better do it soon because the actors are aging fast especially aang/Gordon. It usually takes Netflix 2+ years to release the next season.
here's the funny thing. First of all, the ATLA animated series is one of the most popular animaton series in my country (Indonesia). every 1990-2000 kid knew about ATLA. and you know what? the majority of reviews from my country about this live action are positive. and the funny thing is that we get so confused when we see reviews from western people 😅. like they're literally torn in half between people who love it and hate it 🤣. just like most people here, i enjoy this adaptation. and just so you know, I watched the entire season first before I see any reviews.
I don't know WHAT people are bitching about! I just watched all of Book 1 of the animated series for the first time before starting the show and I've enjoyed the live action adaptation A LOT!
Wow, I am a big fan of the original animated series, and I loved the Netflix adaptation. I've watched it already few times, and it's amazing! I fell in love with this beautiful series. Fantastic live-action adaptation! I can't wait for the next season! Love the action, adventure, drama, the emotional twist, it brought me to tears, the fantasy, and comedy-all in one! Amazing cinematography, amazing special effects, those animals, spirit animals just amazing, and their powers. The music is so wonderful, the visuals look great and the backgrounds look fantastic! I love their costumes, which are very detailed, elaborate, and very impressive! It definitely paid homage to the original. They're all amazing! Gordon is a brilliant, fantastic actor for his young age, and he is so cute; he has a million-dollar smile too. Dallas is a versatile actor, he's amazing actor. Kiawentiio and Ian are amazing too. Paul, and Daniel are very good too. I love the casting, I love the characters, they all did a great job. Congratulations! This is the best live-action adaptation! ♥️
The only thing I can complain about Episode 1 is that they did Roku dirty. Like they bypassed Roku and went straight to Kyoshi for the Narration intro in the beginning. They skipped Roku treating him like he doesn't exist. We also get only 1/2 of The Storm episode, Aang's side. The beauty of The Storm is the contrast between Aang and Zuko's motivation, where Aang ran away from his responsibilities while Zuko was treated harshly by his father and sent on an impossible quest.
They don't ignore Roku for the entirety of the season. We get to meet a few of the past Avatars. I think they did Kiyoshi first, because Aang went to Kiyoshi Island first

I liked the show overall. I gave them some grace because it is a challenge to translate a whole season of 20 episodes to 8. None of the changes they made because of that bothered me. What did bother me was the some of the acting, especially Katara's, I wanted to love her so bad, but she did get better by the last episode. I think you guys will enjoy this.
YAYY!! Major Zuko fan here! I would say because there are only 8 episodes, I think they did a good job in condensing all of the fan favourite / significant episodes in season 1 into the overall storyline. The visuals, sounds and effects are phenomenal however I did find the acting to be a bit awkward at first considering ATLA at its core was a light hearted kids cartoon and the mood was a bit uncharacteristic but that could be them just further highlighting the seriousness of war and loss in genocide etc. which then I’d say they’re doing a pretty good job in. 😅 Excited for the upcoming reactions, thank you!
I don't understand the hatred at ALL. Fun fact, it's those who call themselves fans that trashtalk. Tbh I never watched Avatar before and I absolutely loved it ! After that, I bingewatched the anime Avatar and Legend of Korra. And I still love the netflix adaptation because it brought more details, more scenes, and if people want to watch the same thing, they should go back to the original version.
I just finished watching the first episode of Avatar The Last Airbender on Netflix. And here are my non spoiler thoughts… First, it’s not as bad as the Shamalamadingdong version and obviously it’s not going to be as great at the original cartoon. So first the Pro’s. The cultural representation they showed for the Air Nomads and the Southern Water Tribe were phenomenal and spot on. You can see the Inuit influence for the Water Tribe. The bending is also great! It’s fast paced, and you can tell that the benders are rather skilled in their bending form. The cast is diverse, and some of the changes made are for the betterment. Prince Zuko was nearly perfect. And Uncle Iroh was charming. He is wise for his years, but doesn’t come across as a senile old man. You can see the pain and desperation he has to complete his quest. He IS after that Glory and Honor that his father took from him. Some midtakes I have; you can tell that Aang is just a boy, and Sokka had to grow up way too fast after taking responsibility for his people. However, I would have liked to see more humor from these characters. And now the cons. The biggest one I have is for the CGI… it’s bad. I mean it’s really bad. Also, you can tell that the actress portraying Katara is just not that talanted, or this is her first acting gig. Some of the dialogue is cheesy and the line delivery could be better from multiple characters (looking at you gran gran) but despite that, I’m still giving it a chance. Unlike with Shamalimbo’s take on the Last Airbender, where I couldn’t even last 5 minutes before throwing the dvd into the pits of Mordor where it belongs, I am more than willing to give the Netflix show a chance. It’s on “thin ice” right now, but, I will be going on to watch the second episode.
Nah, I think this adaptation is great. Whiners going to whine though....what else is there in life but whining about adaptations being different? Easy to forget how annoying Zuko is at the beginning of the series because he's so cool later. 44:35 As a fan of the cartoon, I'm not sure what complications you're speaking of. I know he used the avatar state to escape but I think they removed that because he lost control of the avatar state a few minutes later.....using it to escape from the ship would undercut him losing control when finding Gyatso, so I get the change.
Twitter is always loud. But that doesn't mean the rest of the world agrees with them. The show is a certified hit. No.1 in 84 countries. It's not perfect, but i rather they make multiple seasons of show like this than their usual high school dramas.
I think my problem with this is not the seriousness is that this show had more time then the original for world building and character depth and development and kinda just tell you things, like they say Aang needs to grow up, but they don’t ever show him being a 12 year old outside the first 20 minutes (which again is already equal to one episode of the original) so the fact they have so much more time to utilize and would rather just tell you certain story plots or certain character developments is just lazy tbh which I can see why the creators dropped out, they assumed this would be a more in depth version of the og show but it just kinda comes off as a cash grab, someone put it perfectly “write cast and costumes, wrong script”
I have watched 3 episodes thus far, and the problem for me is the acting on the kids part, expecially aang. Sokka is good, but the others arent as great.
I've only seen the first two episodes but this show is kicking absolute ass already. I don't care if it's perfect or not, it's making me feel all the excitement and hype I felt when I watched the original, and I'm having the BEST time reliving those feelings. And my man Ian Ousley is CARRYING the mantle of Sokka so far, I love what he's doing with the character
People are having issues with this version is because they keep on comparing it with the animated one, eaoecially the storyline. I think if thwy watch the series and digesting it like they've watched it for the first time and consideeing the season only has 8 episodes, they would appreciate the series more. For me, I prefer this version because even though there's a lot to take on each episode but after watching the entire season, the storyline still make sense.

Regarding the title.... I don't think you'll hate it in the end, but I think you'll have real gripes that are valid and are just being blown up to the extreme by Twitter.
All the fire benders we see attacking the air temple are solders not master. All the air benders we see fighting are tattooed meaning they are Masters the comet was the only thing giving the solders an edge.
personally i like the cgi and the actors are super charming but after a while i just didn't like the writing. it felt very rushed and weird after a bit. i didn't like this very much but i respect if other people do, it just wasn't for me.
This is leagues worse than the One Piece live action. It is leagues better than Cowboy Bebop or Death Note. I think OP did a better job of reworking the stories to fit an 8 episode season. They made sense. This one I was scratching my head at the changes, some of them totally erase character growth/motivation etc. The acting and dialogue was also pretty poor and not just the kids. Child actors are usually pretty meh and I can give them a pass but even the adults delivered wooden performances. I think OP live action showed us what happens when the original creator is there with creative control and this was what happens when people of lesser talent take control and don't have the chops to pull it off or feel the need to tell it differently. If it is getting multiple seasons I would have prefered a closer adaptation. If they were so pressed for time why did they take later storylines or things from Korra and try and shoehorn them in when you only had 8 episodes.
My only problem with ep1 was Katara blocking Zuko's fire blast. She was to far away from any water to actually bend, but since we didn't get the ship scene with Katara freezing the solders they needed another scene, they just needed to do it closer to the ground to make the scene work better.
To tell the truth who really gets burned besides zuko aang katara and song... I cant think of anyone oh yeah toph when her feet got burned so to see this is a nice touch them showing people getting burned (not to sound psychotic)

@@YaBoyRockLee I think the real problem with the show is that it roughly has the same run time as per the first season of the animated show. So there really was no need to compromise here by instead adding some new things when they first could have just focused properly on the events of the season 1 and that feeling of something being missing was felt even by the live action watchers who haven't watched the original show. While many people were clearly expecting something like one piece again from netflix since they don't even have 1000 episodes to adapt from the live action. So I guess this is a valid criticism which is why I would say the show is still okay for what it tries to be and what it actually is but personally speaking I am seeing more or the people who are extreme haters of the show or the people who just love it so much that they can't even take a single criticism for the show hence criticising the original show itself when that is what it's based upon and there is a reason it's still believed till now despite being an Nickelodeon animated series. So people are being a little biased everywhere.
The hate people bring to this show reminds me of the hate towards the last hell boy movie people didn’t like it cause it didn’t follow the last movie so no babies and it was too gruesome for kids. the problems stem from how they take certain things and change certain things, i'm on episode 5 currently, there were a few moments where I raised my eyebrow and went that's how they're gonna do it ok? but looked past it. My dad is watching along he likes it so far.

It seemed like Aang couldn't sleep so went out to get some fresh air and think. (Or maybe he was running away, but it was out of remorse and confusion, not cowardice). When the weather started to get dangerous, he wanted to go back to the air temple - but then Appa was overtaken by a nasty wave.
yep... Aang wanted to go 'up where he could think clearly'...because he was overwhelmed by the news that he is the Avatar and has to go away from everything he's ever known his whole life.
He gave a monologue about how scared he was to Appa right before taking off as well, but I understand why fans see it as a departure. Still, I thought they handled his guilt about “running off and disappearing” really well over the season.
Some X (Twitter) user are just salty and bitter w/o reason. So... Some of them are not very reliable for a review. I'm almost done with live-action series. It is a very good adaptation. The actors are really good with outstanding performance for the actors of Aang, Zuko, Azula, Ozai and Iroh.
My ONLY problem with this adaptation is the acting. Other than that, if you can just push pass that, is a good series.
The dialogue can be pretty cringy at times too

fs! and they added a few things that I absolutely loved, like more on the southern air temple. Absolutely brilliant beginning. It will never be as good as the original but I THINK this is the best it can be.
I think my biggest issues with the show are all things they didn't really have to change, but felt the need to in order to fit it all in. I think even one extra episode would have helped greatly.

Kept all the important stuff, changed some plot to include important characters like jet and maintain the themes of ATLA. Is it perfect? NO. But its a great adaptation, effects are phenomenal and actors actually good. Im quite pleased

It just made the loss of the air nomads so much more heart wrenching. it makes you understand aangs pain even more and see how strong he is to keep going the way he's going. Honestly 9/10 from me. People who love atla have clearly made this show and know its important themes and messages, Cant wait for season 2!!!!

It's 8 episodes, You either get funny slapstick humor and virtually no plot progression or you cut out some of the whining "I just wanna be a kid I don't want responsibilities!" and you move the plot along. I seriously doubt this budgeting for 8 or 9 seasons so yeah Plot wins. We don't have time for every nuance and side character and side plot, It was rushed as it is.
@dalionsouled I agree. I think this mandatory 8 episodes is hurting a lot of shows. Give them 10 to 12 max, and they have the ability to slow down a lot more.

I haven't watched animated one, but after watching this and falling in love with it, and done binged Avatar live action I am going to watch cartoon
I'm a very big ATLA fan, but unlike most people I seem to understand that the show is adapting a cartoon for 7 year olds that was released weekly with 20min episodes that had self contained plots and only by context did they meld together to form the over all narrative. This show is a live PG13 show that has 8 1hour long episodes that are released all at once as a cohesive narrative that truncates the longer more random cartoon. People also underestimate the amounts of exposotion dumps in the cartoon and how it only alluded to or vaguely mentioned the more mature themes. This show can actually SHOW what the cartoon could only IMPLY. People are getting hung up on episodic plot lines and portrayals of chatacters meant for kids when the medium of both versions is completely different. Anyone who is upset that the live action doesnt do the cartoon justice is just simping on the cartoon for its nostalgia and using hindsight to justify their reasoning.
I enjoyed it. I understand that some changes need to be made, especially only having an 8 episodes.
Aang wanted to clear his head after hearing the news that he's the Avatar. I actually like this better than him running away. Yes, he was scared, but he was gonna consider it given some time. Something he didn't know he was losing when he left with Appa that night.

Didn't consider until watching this reaction how much sense it makes for Zuko to be such a good artist. Zuko learned swordsmanship from Pian Dao (aka sokka's master) and recieved proper training not Sokka's accelerated course. He would have had months or years of practice controling the stroke of his brush (with the whole thing about a stroke of the brush cannot be taken back just like the stroke of a sword) and in visualising the bigger picture in a second allowing him to remember Aangs face in detail
In the OG Aang literally ran away, here he went to go get some "air" aka clear his head get some space and that saved him/got him trapped.

Actually making a simple choice like that and leads to disaster sets up even more guilt. He knows he didn't run, but everyone around him, especially those like Bumi, thinks he did. That's worse because you now have to prove yourself to people who do not know your reasons for doing what you did. It hits a bit harder IMHO

Getting stuck in iceberg was still not his choice, and by the end of the season we can see him feeling estranged from this world and giving in to a spirit because of guilt of not being able to save his people.. y'all are missing the important points that were given here. First of all, the ATLA animated series is one of the most popular animaton series in my country (Indonesia). every 1990-2000 kid knew about ATLA. and you know what? the majority of reviews from my country about this live action are positive. and the funny thing is that we get so confused when we see reviews from western people 😅. like they're literally torn in half between people who love it and hate it 🤣. just like most people here, i enjoy this adaptation. and just so you know, I watched the entire season first before I see any reviews.

Wow, I am a big fan of the original animated series, and I loved the Netflix adaptation. I've watched it already few times, and it's amazing! I fell in love with this beautiful series. Fantastic live-action adaptation! I can't wait for the next season! Love the action, adventure, drama, the emotional twist, it brought me to tears, the fantasy, and comedy-all in one! Amazing cinematography, amazing special effects, those animals, spirit animals just amazing, and their powers. The music is so wonderful, the visuals look great and the backgrounds look fantastic! I love their costumes, which are very detailed, elaborate, and very impressive! It definitely paid homage to the original. They're all amazing! Gordon is a brilliant, fantastic actor for his young age, and he is so cute; he has a million-dollar smile too. Dallas is a versatile actor, he's amazing actor. Kiawentiio and Ian are amazing too. Paul, and Daniel are very good too. I love the casting, I love the characters, they all did a great job. Congratulations! This is the best live-action adaptation! ♥️

The only thing I can complain about Episode 1 is that they did Roku dirty. Like they bypassed Roku and went straight to Kyoshi for the Narration intro in the beginning. They skipped Roku treating him like he doesn't exist.
We also get only 1/2 of The Storm episode, Aang's side. The beauty of The Storm is the contrast between Aang and Zuko's motivation, where Aang ran away from his responsibilities while Zuko was treated harshly by his father and sent on an impossible quest.
They don't ignore Roku for the entirety of the season. We get to meet a few of the past Avatars. I think they did Kiyoshi first, because Aang went to Kiyoshi Island first

I liked the show overall. I gave them some grace because it is a challenge to translate a whole season of 20 episodes to 8. None of the changes they made because of that bothered me. What did bother me was the some of the acting, especially Katara's, I wanted to love her so bad, but she did get better by the last episode. I think you guys will enjoy this.
YAYY!! Major Zuko fan here! I would say because there are only 8 episodes, I think they did a good job in condensing all of the fan favourite / significant episodes in season 1 into the overall storyline. The visuals, sounds and effects are phenomenal however I did find the acting to be a bit awkward at first considering ATLA at its core was a light hearted kids cartoon and the mood was a bit uncharacteristic but that could be them just further highlighting the seriousness of war and loss in genocide etc. which then I’d say they’re doing a pretty good job in. 😅 Excited for the upcoming reactions, thank you!

I don't understand the hatred at ALL. Fun fact, it's those who call themselves fans that trashtalk. Tbh I never watched Avatar before and I absolutely loved it ! After that, I bingewatched the anime Avatar and Legend of Korra. And I still love the netflix adaptation because it brought more details, more scenes, and if people want to watch the same thing, they should go back to the original version.
I just finished watching the first episode of Avatar The Last Airbender on Netflix. And here are my non spoiler thoughts… First, it’s not as bad as the Shamalamadingdong version and obviously it’s not going to be as great at the original cartoon. So first the Pro’s.
The cultural representation they showed for the Air Nomads and the Southern Water Tribe were phenomenal and spot on. You can see the Inuit influence for the Water Tribe. The bending is also great! It’s fast paced, and you can tell that the benders are rather skilled in their bending form. The cast is diverse, and some of the changes made are for the betterment. Prince Zuko was nearly perfect. And Uncle Iroh was charming. He is wise for his years, but doesn’t come across as a senile old man. You can see the pain and desperation he has to complete his quest. He IS after that Glory and Honor that his father took from him.
Some midtakes I have; you can tell that Aang is just a boy, and Sokka had to grow up way too fast after taking responsibility for his people. However, I would have liked to see more humor from these characters. And now the cons.
The biggest one I have is for the CGI… it’s bad. I mean it’s really bad. Also, you can tell that the actress portraying Katara is just not that talanted, or this is her first acting gig. Some of the dialogue is cheesy and the line delivery could be better from multiple characters (looking at you gran gran) but despite that, I’m still giving it a chance.
Unlike with Shamalimbo’s take on the Last Airbender, where I couldn’t even last 5 minutes before throwing the dvd into the pits of Mordor where it belongs, I am more than willing to give the Netflix show a chance. It’s on “thin ice” right now, but, I will be going on to watch the second episode.

Easy to forget how annoying Zuko is at the beginning of the series because he's so cool later.
44:35 As a fan of the cartoon, I'm not sure what complications you're speaking of. I know he used the avatar state to escape but I think they removed that because he lost control of the avatar state a few minutes later.....using it to escape from the ship would undercut him losing control when finding Gyatso, so I get the change.

They just lean the opposite direction of whatever is the most “loud”.
Twitter is always loud. But that doesn't mean the rest of the world agrees with them. The show is a certified hit. No.1 in 84 countries. It's not perfect, but i rather they make multiple seasons of show like this than their usual high school dramas.
I think my problem with this is not the seriousness is that this show had more time then the original for world building and character depth and development and kinda just tell you things, like they say Aang needs to grow up, but they don’t ever show him being a 12 year old outside the first 20 minutes (which again is already equal to one episode of the original) so the fact they have so much more time to utilize and would rather just tell you certain story plots or certain character developments is just lazy tbh which I can see why the creators dropped out, they assumed this would be a more in depth version of the og show but it just kinda comes off as a cash grab, someone put it perfectly “write cast and costumes, wrong script”
I have watched 3 episodes thus far, and the problem for me is the acting on the kids part, expecially aang. Sokka is good, but the others arent as great.
I've only seen the first two episodes but this show is kicking absolute ass already. I don't care if it's perfect or not, it's making me feel all the excitement and hype I felt when I watched the original, and I'm having the BEST time reliving those feelings. And my man Ian Ousley is CARRYING the mantle of Sokka so far, I love what he's doing with the character
People are having issues with this version is because they keep on comparing it with the animated one, eaoecially the storyline. I think if thwy watch the series and digesting it like they've watched it for the first time and consideeing the season only has 8 episodes, they would appreciate the series more.
For me, I prefer this version because even though there's a lot to take on each episode but after watching the entire season, the storyline still make sense.

All the fire benders we see attacking the air temple are solders not master. All the air benders we see fighting are tattooed meaning they are Masters the comet was the only thing giving the solders an edge.

This is leagues worse than the One Piece live action. It is leagues better than Cowboy Bebop or Death Note. I think OP did a better job of reworking the stories to fit an 8 episode season. They made sense. This one I was scratching my head at the changes, some of them totally erase character growth/motivation etc. The acting and dialogue was also pretty poor and not just the kids. Child actors are usually pretty meh and I can give them a pass but even the adults delivered wooden performances. I think OP live action showed us what happens when the original creator is there with creative control and this was what happens when people of lesser talent take control and don't have the chops to pull it off or feel the need to tell it differently. If it is getting multiple seasons I would have prefered a closer adaptation. If they were so pressed for time why did they take later storylines or things from Korra and try and shoehorn them in when you only had 8 episodes.
My only problem with ep1 was Katara blocking Zuko's fire blast. She was to far away from any water to actually bend, but since we didn't get the ship scene with Katara freezing the solders they needed another scene, they just needed to do it closer to the ground to make the scene work better.

So there really was no need to compromise here by instead adding some new things when they first could have just focused properly on the events of the season 1 and that feeling of something being missing was felt even by the live action watchers who haven't watched the original show. While many people were clearly expecting something like one piece again from netflix since they don't even have 1000 episodes to adapt from the live action. So I guess this is a valid criticism which is why I would say the show is still okay for what it tries to be and what it actually is but personally speaking I am seeing more or the people who are extreme haters of the show or the people who just love it so much that they can't even take a single criticism for the show hence criticising the original show itself when that is what it's based upon and there is a reason it's still believed till now despite being an Nickelodeon animated series. So people are being a little biased everywhere.
