      The late 70s German Apple pressing of Revolver is the pressing to beat. Hands down! Hor Zu label Beatle lps are hit or miss depending on the pressing. But trust me,get the German Apple pressing.

    It’s crazy how the monos are the ones approved by the band but it takes fans a lot of digging to get across such recordings. The boxset is great also because of the paperback writer/ rain single.

    Couldn’t agree more. Love them both. I have four copies of revolver in mono and 6 in stereo! I also really dig the 2022 remix

    Thanks Brian for the great video. Revolver is probably my favorite album of all time. Beside the recent 50th anniversary Box where I also really like both versions I have the German first stereo Hörzu pressing and a French 66 mono. As you can’t really have too many revolver versions I probably need to check the versions you mentioned. 😂😊

    I have the mid 70s HTM pressing in stereo and an original -3 cut (i.e. not the withdrawn mix) in mono. They are very different. I don't think I need to choose, happy to have and listen to them both.

    5:29 That was a close call, you were about to get leapt on. From his archetypal memory, Bob was on the ridge of a bluff like a mountain lion in an ancestral flashback. It's the first vid where he's claimed the high ground. It's a good job you didn't say anything bad about 'Doctor Robert.'

    I think I have all of the pressings you are showing here, including that Odeon Hor Zu from '69--I got that even before I started watching the videos.

    Thanks for this video Brian. Well, mono vs stereo for me depends on the listening gear. With headphones I mostly prefer mono, but on my home hifi system stereo is the way to go for me. I also love the very early albums with the strong stereo separation on my hifi. I haven't heard the HörZu version on the blue label, but I have the 1978 German Apple reissue. It could be that EMI used the same stamper for both versions. Also the Apple version sounds really good and has a fantastic low end. Additionally I have a mid 80th UK version on very thin vinyl. Nevertheless, all my mid 80th cuts (from the 1985 BC13 box set ) sound really good too. But i also love the 2012 remix... it sounds more modern and has more bass, but i like it. If I have to choose my stereo copy, I think it is the 1978 Apple. For mono, I only have the CD version so far.

    Love the new mono lp ! It's a bit brighter and sharper than the 2014 lp but of course, the mono box set is indispensable ! Yes, sometimes the stereo as well ! It IS a tough call so at least we can enjoy them both !

    • @BrianBringelson
      @BrianBringelson  2 года назад +2

      Thats exactly right. It seems just a hair brighter and what's interesting is that it's apparently (from what I've read) closer to the master tape than the 2014. Supposedly they used the original mastering/cutting notes and tried to stick to them. Either way it's nice to have so many options for the mono mix now. Thanks for the comment!

    I love the new stereo remix. It brings out a hell of a lot of detail, but after the dust settled it was back to xex 606-1 which is my go to album.

    I also prefer the stereo mix, but I also enjoy the mono version a lot too. I own on vinyl stereo: mid 70s 'HTM' cut, 2012 remaster, 2022 remix, mono: 1966 original (not in great shape), 2014 reissue

  • @edwarde5452

    If we're talking the original 60s mixes, I prefer the mono (I've never heard the rare first mono press mix). If I'm not limited to the 1960s, then the Giles Martin mix is my favorite. I think he knocked it out of the park.

    Mono all the way for me. I’m not a vinyl guy though. I’m comparing 2009 mono box cd to 2009 stereo remasters. Plus I like 3 different mono mixes in yesterday & today 2014 cd!

    Nice video, thank you! Do you think the 2022 stereo remix will ever be your go to? I personally love the new stereo remixe, not sure if I prefer it to the mono however.

    • @BrianBringelson
      @BrianBringelson  2 года назад +1

      Hey thanks! I'm not sure the 2022 stereo mix will ever become my go to. It has too many problems for me. "She Said She Said" sounds really odd to me for one. And then little things like the amp buzzing during the intro to "Taxman" that's been removed will always leave a bad feeling in my soul haha. So while it's nice to have the remix, I don't think it will ever surpass the original 1966 mixes. Thanks for your comment!

    Brian, what's your thoughts on the 1966 mono version? I really like that one. I haven't heard the 2014, but the new box mono is very nice. I have the same UK stereo as you, which I think sounds great. Been looking for that German issue but haven't lucked out yet. I prefer the mono, but that stereo version is excellent too. As you say, both are essential. Thanks for another cool video.

    • @BrianBringelson
      @BrianBringelson  2 года назад

      The original 66 UK Mono pressings I've heard (I've had the chance to borrow 3 different originals, and one with the rare "Tomorrow Never Knows" mix) all sounded amazing. Warm, big, punchy, etc. The good news is that the 2014 and 2021 mono remasters also have all of those characteristics. Having a real 66 UK Mono pressing is a goal of mine, but I'm certainly content with the remasters at the moment. What are your thoughts? Do you have 66 UK Mono? Thanks for the comment.

    • @750drums
      @750drums Год назад +1

      @@BrianBringelson I do have a 66 mono, Brian. I was lucky enough to find one some years back. It's the -2, -2 version. It sounds really good, although the new one is the box is very close. I think we're all looking for that "Holy Grail" -1 mix, but really tough to find and super expensive., as are the 2014 Monos now.
