Your review is spot on. It took me a few listens to appreciate the mix, but it’s my go to when not listening to the mono version. The good outweigh the bad here.

Taxman, Rain and She said she said were the best tracks from the sessions and that is why they were probably the most improved of the lot. Giles was shining diamonds there!!

I really enjoyed your knowledgeable & fun presentation. I always went to the 2014 mono edition for my go-to Revolver. The new Stereo mix gives the instruments room to breathe, and the vocals are clearer, louder and more centered with no vocals on one channel & instruments on the other. "And Your Bird Can Sing" & "Dr. Robert", the guitars really chime.

Was looking forward to your thoughts about this incredible box set. I have the CD box set, overall very pleased with the whole package & sound quality. I am incredibly taken by the George compositions on this release. Eventually, will pick up the vinyl set. I still need more time to digest everything offered on here.

I agree the books are always a big highlight in these sets, and although the text is top notch, there definitely seems to be less photos of the band then the other books. Especially unseen photos. Thankfully Linda McCartney was around starting with the White Album to document those sessions

Regarding She Said She Said - I am guessing you were listening to the vinyl on your speakers and the Spotify version on headphones. It is in fact the same mix. When you listen to the 2022 mix on speakers, there is enough blend of the guitar sounds in the room that you don't notice the left guitar. On headphones this doesn't happen, so it becomes painfully obvious & quite jarring. After going back to the original mixes, that left side guitar has always been there. It was just combined with the other guitar track and mixed low, and as a result you didn't notice it. If you use headphones and listen closely to the original mono and stereo mixes you will hear it.

  • @WilG082

One thing I noticed is they the vocals have similar reverb effect as the mono mix. It’s almost like Giles was trying to make a stereo version of the mono mix. I hope you get to hear the Dolby Atmos version. It’s a different experience for sure

Great review!…I got the 5 CD set and I like it a lot. The new stereo mixes are clean, bold and generally have improved the balance of the stereo separation of the different tracks as compared to my 1986 CD. I was looking forward to being blown away by the Tomorrow Never Knows RM11 track and I barely noticed any differences, but that’s just me.

Brian could you check for me both versions of she said she said. Cuz I can't do streaming right now and was wondering if you could check that compared to your vinyl because I've got the CD box set and I'm very disappointed in that track. I mean the snare drum sounds really good but they completely buried the symbols. I just compared it to the 2009 remaster and the crash cymbals are right on it but on this 2022 mix they turned it way down. I don't get it. Maybe that other version that you're talking about of she said she said hopefully the symbols are louder but who knows.

Got the vinyl box online using some discounts for about $150. You're exactly right about She Said She Said. On vinyl it sounds amazing, less like a garage-rock workout and more of an early psychedelic masterpiece, with a trippy soundscape made with just a couple guitars. Amazing. On streaming it does sound way off though. Like they uploaded the wrong mix to streaming. And hopefully it's a simple swap for Apple to make online and not also on the CDs for those who bought it. My favorite of the remixes/improvements are "For No One", "Dr Robert" and "Tomorrow Never Knows." The outtakes for And Your Bird Can Sing, Got To Get You Into My Life, the early mono mix of TNK, and Yellow Submarine demos are my favorites from the Sessions album. Love this set. Only thing I would change is to make the EP a 12" 45 so the sound is better, and make a new cover for it with one of the many band pics from 1966 rather than the sort of bland Parlophone replica sleeve.

Thanks for sharing this. I was able to get the 5CD version as well as the 4 LP set. I love remixes but I think they benefit some songs more than others. Taxman, Eleanor Rigby and Got to get you into my life are the highlights for me as those songs needed it more than some of the others. I think the key highlight is the bonus content. Definitely worth getting. Thanks

but when it comes to out-takes , I really dont like the effort to re-listening to and cherry-picking various tracks in a vinyl format ,

    hope that makes sense

Thank you very much for your review. I had exactly the same reaction as you: at first I was so irritated by the bass rumbling that I could hardly concentrate on anything else. In general, it's too bass-heavy for me. There are tracks where it doesn't bother me so much, and at some point on side B you get used to it a little bit... Well, we'll just have to learn to live with this new listening experience. But I'm still grateful that this remix exists, and I find it really very exciting!
Great what you discovered on the different remixes of 'She Said, She Said' - since I only know the LP (until now), this is totally new to me! What a surprise!
Unfortunately, my LPs were so dish-warped that I am exchanging the box today. That really upset me😳: I don't feel like playing the lottery every time - do I have dished copies or not? You seem to have been lucky! 😊
In other words: I only listened to the Stereo-Remix, not to the "Session" LPs because they were so warped that I didn't want to put my needle at risk! Also the Mono and Single had to wait. 😭

Interesting. I have been listening for 3 days over and over again. This blows away the 1966 stereo or mono IMHO. How could anyone not like this? So much more clarity. The drums, the guitars the voices all better. Do you think it’s just different because you are used to the original so long that this is different and it is weird? I actually think it’s amazing. It’s cool stuff. I also noticed that guitar in the left channel
on She Said She Said. I didn’t mind either way but a good catch.

      @revelry1969 2 года назад +1

@@justinparkman3585 yes mono stinks in general. It’s nostalgia. Stereo almost always beats mono. Yeah the early stereo stuff was hard panned etc because they didn’t know how to do real stereo and most record players were crappy little ones…. Anything pre 1967 you have really understand how they mastered. They mastered to meet the needs of the playback systems most people had. This is why the bass and the high end was cut off. These remixes bring back the bass and other clarity that was lost to mushing everything together into mono or faux stereo or whatever. The Beatles would have mixed it this way if they had the technology. This stuff was recorded on 4 track. I am so
Impressed how this sounds. Those who say they don’t like it are just stuck in nostalgia. The veil has been taken off of this wonderful music.

I agree about the Drums and bass being more pronounced. At some points it works well and at others it takes a little away from the rest of the sound. The guitars sound a bit thin and distant in some songs. I don't really understand why, but And Your Bird Can Sing doesn't quite deliver the same punch with the vocals, especially at the "Ya tell me that you've heard every sound there is" part, it doesn't hit the same crescendo.
I've only listened on Headphones, so as far as the panning on a big stereo I'm not sure, but with HP on it sounds a bit too spread out and loses some punch. It is nice to hear a different version, of course, but I think sometimes in making a mix they ignore some of the things that were originally achieved in favor of modernity.
Either way I'll keep listening because it is still enjoyable.
Thanks for the video and discussion Brian.

I totally agree with you on the Spotify version of "She said, she said". Haven't heard the vinyl or the cd yet, but I always sensed there was something wrong with the guitar in the left speaker as you mention. The new mixes present more clarity and more punch than the originals, thats true, but they also enhance the small mistakes and glitches, which, in my opinion, aren't always that welcome. I'll stick with the remastered ones from 2009!! And when it comes to John's missing voice on the last verse of "Yellow submarine" and Paul's sudden move from center to right channel at the beginning of "Eleanor Rigby", they already corrected that on the Yellow submarine songtrack, back in 1999.
