File is for filing lead. Bodywork and such. Many manufacturers under contract with the war department in WWII made wrenches-spanners minus the chrome and finishing to make them cheaper and faster, You can often tell WWII era tools that way. That 25mm King Dick spanner looks from that era. Lots of great Whitworth tools there.
Nice haul ! Interestingly (or not!) I was always taught that scissors have symmetrical handles and are under 10" whereas anything over 10" or with offset handles are called shears.
Thanks, it is interesting, as I was only talking about that very thing last night, great minds think Alike, and I think you are right, out of interest 😀, these particular type are going fur big bucks on eBay ☺️
My late father worked at Jacobs factory in Sheffield, he was the tool room supervisor. We made some of the best hand tools here in Sheffield years ago. I worked at BSC and remember we supplied Abingdon Kind Dick Company.
@@tony1721 That's what I found when I priced mine. It has the other semi-circular slide to make a full set of three and isn't made under the Part number marked on the box any more. Moore & Wright - Top quality precision tools!
Tony! Man those scissors were Massive! New Jersey and Pennsylvania were a hub for machinery and tools. I think everything you got in that haul was great. 🍻🥩

Thanks for the info, hopefully it will look a bit better after a clean up 😀

The scissors were a great find but that square set was top notch. I never find them complete with the scribe.
Yep, love the scissors, but you are right, the square is wonderful, paid £5 , which I was happy with 😀

Totally, great tools were made all over GB, especially Sheffield and Birmingham 🙂
Always a score to get tools in an older original box…
Thanks for sharing
I love it 😊
Nice buys. I have a similar Square Set still in the box - 5 pounds - Not bad considering they go for over 250 pounds new!! 👌
Omg, is that how much they are now??

Hi Tony
the wooden tool is a marking gauge for marking mortice and tenons joints on timber
Thank you 😊
@@tony1721 It's a Draper Carpenters Marking and Mortice Gauge £21.40 on their site, still made.
Those Britool and King Dick spanners are proably old GPO workshop tools. Still have my old toolbox full of them.
I’ve got a few old GPO tools, were they always marked ?? Or were some unmarked ??😊
@@tony1721 Mostly marked. Noticed you had one with 3 buff marks. Might have come from my workshop🤣
You just never know lol
That is an impressive pair of scissors Tony, nice find👍🏻.

@jamiehardcastle4999 that’s probably it, it’s definitely a specialist tool for a trade like that , if only I could make out the makers name
