- Lake Erie Smallmouth Fishing! I finally made it back up to lake erie to do some smallmouth fishing and the bite was hot! The ticket was finesse swimbait fishing! While most other techniques worked too the finesse swimbait really caught them! It has quickly become one of my favorite baits for lake erie smallmouth fishing and smallmouth fishing in general! We did most of our smallmouth fishing in presque isle bay but ventured out on the lake for a little bit! Lake erie smallmouth fishing in the spring is such a great time to get up there because all the fish are schooled up and really feeding up for the spawn. Presque isle bay is a good place to get started smallmouth fishing as there are many rock piles and other staging areas for these smallmouth and this is were they will spawn. Hey, Nathan - I'm from Northern Indiana, and I was wondering if you've ever been up here and fished Lake Shafer in Monticello. It's a dammed part of the Tippecanoe River, and it has pretty good largemouth and smallmouth, but the real draw are the massive bluegill and big channel cats - my PB was a 4' channel; caught him with a Gamakatsu wide gap hook suspended under a bobber (I'm old school lol) baited with two blood scented dough balls (I think Yum, but maybe Gulp?) with a big old nightcrawler wrapped around it. Took me five minutes to land him.

The captain of a charter nailed a 4.75 lb one in Lake Erie using a Goby, North Kelly's Island shoal , Lake Erie

You mean you can catch fish on Erie with something other than drifting tubes?
Absolutely! I don’t even go to Erie with tubes anymore
@@nathanquincefishing7122 good to know. I have a club tournament up there this Sunday, and I hate fishing tubes. Would you recommend tungsten swim jigheads, or is lead good enough? I do like the sound Tungsten makes underwater when it makes contact with rock. I hate the price of tungsten given the zebra mussels I'll be dragging my bait across.

@@nathanquincefishing7122When I watched your video, that particular swimbait was very light in color with just a little bit of shading on top....looked to me like a Super Shad color or Ghost Rainbow Trout.

I’m hitting erie tomorrow (mid/late October) near edgewater marina. Water temps around 55-57. Any tips? Locations? Baits?
