I was 12yrs old, 64 now, out on lake Erie, 12 aluminum motor boat, with my dad & grandfather, & we used drop lines my dad made. (with splitters,2 hooks ) you can " FEEL " the fish MUCH better (without getting your bait robbed). Hot spot was called " smokes creek" by Bethlehem Steel. We killed em' bushel baskets.
A buddy and I worked the western islands of Erie all summer, 2019. Very few perch, but lots of walleye. Water there much more shallow, the lake was never what you would call calm. Wish I was on that boat with you guys! Thanks for sharing.
I am from Apollo PA but I have been living in the south pacific islands now for 25 years. We fish real sea monsters here. But I loved watching this show. My grandfather fished Erie back in the day and he said they could catch 500 Erie perch a day with no bait on bare hook. 10 at a time. No problem. Great show. Thanks.
we always come home from Lake Simco with no less than 200 giant perch averaging 3/4 to a pound each :) two fishing and one cleaning and dont forget your filleting board and knife sharpening stone!
I caught a 49lb flathead in fast water with 6lb Fireline, so I don't believe you needed to worry about those breaking your line. Wish we could get these size of perch where I'm from. Fun to watch.
I love you guys I have watched so many of your videos. I grew up in Conneaut Ohio and Transplanted to Western North Carolina. The Hunting and Fishing here is excellent but watching your videos makes me feel like I just visited back Home.... Oh and I have become a customer of your Merch as well!
The locals here in the finger lakes call them jack perch and some get bass sized. Easy to catch through the ice but the big ones get few and far between in warm weather.
Holy smokes that's some nice perching. Watching this video for some motivation for tomorrow's perch trip. Love the videos guys shout out all the way from Chicago. You guys gotta try out lake Michigan one day.
Hi, really enjoy all you are doing. and, I love all of your products. I have to tell you what I saw to day. I was in the Sportsman's Wearhouse (local sporting goods) and they have a wall for pictures for local fish caught. There was a picture of a yellow perch caught on the Cascade Lake here in Idaho that was 17 inches long. Just thought that I would share that with you.
Just watched this again...we're starting to get perch here on sodus and port bay's now but wanted to share something about bait fish...I've found that many times they like a minnow cut in half and often times they seem to prefer the cut bait....made me think of that when you mentioned you were running low on bait.
Ive had the same issues getting minnows at erie lol. One time we get 3" shinners and have to cut them in 3rds. The next time we have tiny minnows a mix of goldies and emeralds...but guess what, we still caught some nice perch each time.
Keep one of the small ones to fillet.Scale, fillet, then turn over and fillet all but 1/8" of meat off the skin.Cut into many long, narrow, tapered strips and clip the wide corners to a point.Tip a 1/16 or 1/8th oz jig with it.At Lake Michigan piers, outfished minnows many times. The white strips tend to be a little more productive.I used swimming jigs in chartreuse and glow in the dark. You can do vertical or cast to see if they're suspended. If suspended they will nail it fluttering down.
I spent a week with my friend at his grandfather's house on lake Ontario. We fished for perch every day and his grandfather made what he called poor man's shrimp with them.
I bought a boat this year and have done well with walleye all summer. I went out for perch off of point Abino this October and no luck finding them. It would be nice to do a video on using your sonar to locate perch. We covered lots of water that day from 50 to 62 ft and only saw balls of baitfish in mid depth. I'm assuming that perch tend to hug bottom so we didn't see them there or we just didn't have our sonar set up properly to spot them on bottom
Hi thanks for the video. I ordered some of your T turn rigs and low and behold there’s a video in my backyard ❤. I think they may get damaged when sent through the mail because of the UPS rollers. Not sure if there is a way to prevent that. But great product.
What is the best way to get the skin off the perch fillets? They look tremendous in the pan. When you can find them in the store (Meijer's), they always have the skin on each double fillet.
See I love you guys so much and I actually fish on Lake Erie w my kayak off crystal beach , sometimes caching some perch and lately the weather has been so bad and seeing you on Erie with the water so calm and your jackets makes me wonder when did you shoot this video? Month wise
Ivo Love your channel, your tactics help me tremendously. Let me know if you come over to the Michigan side !! Love how you used the boatless angler as bait for the big ones 🤣
Two years ago, I fished the western basin of Lake Erie for fall yellow perch. Everyone on the headboat was fishing with minnows. I was the lone exception as I was casting a 1/10 oz Sonic BaitFish and bottom-bouncing it back to me in about 38 feet of water. It was literally a fish on every cast. I had always fished with minnows prior to that trip. It blew my mind that a tiny metal jig out-fished minnows and even caught walleyes.
Hi we have perch in uk but nobody ever eats them. How do you cook them ? Regards ken ps sorry about silly name but my grandaughter gave me her old tablet lol
They are talking about a shortage of minnows, when you are into the perch, cut a piece of the under bellies of a perch about the size of a minnow and tie in on, works good, when you get out of them, try minnows.
I'm disappointed that no jigs were used.Jigs are my favorite way to fish for these tasty critters.Caught many of these jumbos on jigs and spoons in Lake Michigan.
I know how it feels to run out f bait on a hot bite! n a pinch- you can pluck the eyes out of the ones already caught with yer fish hook. amazingly effective and right handy.
Yeah they aren't going to survive.. so if you wanna keep them anything 30+ is going to be fine.. if you are releasing them 30+ is unethical and they won't live..
spring and fall are best, but summer is good too - in c=fact, if the lake freezes and its sage to get out there, ice fishing is also good :) Minnows are one of the best live baits and the Stingnose minnow (jigging spoon) is one of the best artificial baits :)
Nice job on those jumbos but when you are low on bait cut in half & Antonio was driving me crazy throwing those gobies back. Use them for bait also. I caught a few weeks back a nice 10 1/2 perch had a small gobie in it's mouth & hooked that on & bam right away a 11 1/2 inch perch on that gobie. Now that is one calm day out on Lake Erie. Video posted Aug. 28th guessing that is not when video was taken. Not wearing all those cloths.
....correct....filmed earlier this year and PS....regualtions differ by location, but in Ontario, we can not use gobies for bait (it is prohibited) Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water :)
I was checking those T-Turn rigs out & would like a few but wondering how much shipping would be. Saw them on Amazon for much more then your store. They wanted $11.61 for your 1A rig. I think that is to much. Do you have anyplace in Michigan you know where they are sold? Also have you ever thought of putting a fly rig on one of those t-turn rigs. I think that would be deadly.
Where were you guys at on lake Erie? I'm in the western basin near Oregon Ohio and it's not nearly that deep over here I'd love to travel to deeper water !
Back in the 50s on lake Millace in Minnesota I used to catch 18inch perch. Not any more

Such pretty fish... And Oh so tasty!
Seems like a fun, friendly guy to fish with.
this was the best video I've ever seen
Perch are excellent eating !
I caught a 49lb flathead in fast water with 6lb Fireline, so I don't believe you needed to worry about those breaking your line. Wish we could get these size of perch where I'm from. Fun to watch.
Came here to vibe, i was not disappointed 👍
Wow you guys really was bringing them in. Great job
Nothing better then frying up those fish for a meal. Deep fried... Very tasty. Perch and walleye's :)
I love you guys I have watched so many of your videos. I grew up in Conneaut Ohio and Transplanted to Western North Carolina. The Hunting and Fishing here is excellent but watching your videos makes me feel like I just visited back Home.... Oh and I have become a customer of your Merch as well!
Awesome job , look how flat the water is
I miss Perch fishing.. It was a lot of fun over the years. I have a good retirement here, but not much Perch fishing in British Columbia now.
Oh my goodness I love lake Erie perch it's nothing is better it's so addicting I can sit there and eat it all night long
This is the 3rd video I watched in a row on this channel. You earned my subscription and the all tab.
Those are beauties guys. Wish I was there. Wish I could find those Sting minnow gigs here in Upper Michigan.
you can try Dicks Sporting Goods, or Field & Stream, or Gander Outdoors...otherwise, there is always online :)
Nice perch Ivo i wish i lived next door to you. I would go with you all the time. Take care Ivo tight lines and good eats.
The locals here in the finger lakes call them jack perch and some get bass sized. Easy to catch through the ice but the big ones get few and far between in warm weather.

My favorite place ❤

Nice!! Love pirch fishing. Good vid.
I was just in Lake Erie this past weekend for walleye
Just watched this again...we're starting to get perch here on sodus and port bay's now but wanted to share something about bait fish...I've found that many times they like a minnow cut in half and often times they seem to prefer the cut bait....made me think of that when you mentioned you were running low on bait.

Hey ivo when ever u can u should make a new sheephead, perch, white bass and catfish fishing video on lake erie there my favorite!!!
I think i could listen to your calming fishing voice all day long! But I won’t, cause I’m gonna go fishing my damn self
Ive had the same issues getting minnows at erie lol. One time we get 3" shinners and have to cut them in 3rds. The next time we have tiny minnows a mix of goldies and emeralds...but guess what, we still caught some nice perch each time.

Never had perch...Good stuff it seems...
delicious
Great video
You guys are awesome to watch! Fantastic perching, great video as always.
Great fishing. Wow!!
Nice video and perch. I picked up my first sting nose from Gander Outdoors today. Now I have to get out this weekend to see if they really work.
I bought a boat this year and have done well with walleye all summer. I went out for perch off of point Abino this October and no luck finding them. ...perch do hug bottom and they look a bit different than bait fish....and it varies by fish finder :)

What is the best way to get the skin off the perch fillets? They look tremendous in the pan. When you can find them in the store (Meijer's), they always have the skin on each double fillet.
Use perch eyes or a strip of belly meat, pinkie jig or small blade bait, small cast master spoon.
👍🏻 nice work fella’s
See I love you guys so much and I actually fish on Lake Erie w my kayak off crystal beach , sometimes caching some perch and lately the weather has been so bad and seeing you on Erie with the water so calm and your jackets makes me wonder when did you shoot this video? Month wise
The Perch Jerker approves 😎✊🏼
Nice fish... 👍🏼👍🏼Can you tell where is that spot?
Thanks
WINDMILL POINT, LAKE ERIE (NEAR CRYSTAL BEACH)
Ivo Love your channel, your tactics help me tremendously. Let me know if you come over to the Michigan side !! Love how you used the boatless angler as bait for the big ones 🤣
Lake Erie's commercial backbone...the yellow perch.
Yeah but why do we have to buy them from the Canadians when we own half the lake.
Awesome!!!!!
No Walleye?
Two years ago, I fished the western basin of Lake Erie for fall yellow perch. Everyone on the headboat was fishing with minnows. So can you catch perch in Erie in the summer? When is it a good time and what depth?
all summer long you can find perch in Erie - on the eastern basin, they are deep, such as over 50 - 60 - 65 ft.
These are my favorite to eat
Hi we have perch in uk but nobody ever eats them. How do you cook them ? Regards ken ps sorry about silly name but my grandaughter gave me her old tablet lol
@@annabeltheunicorn9374 I think your perch taste different, different species, but people fry them in batter here
Well they look the same might give it a go next time
Nice lottle vid run oitta minnows drop shot for them rubber baits or use shrimp

...out of Crystal Beach ON :)
Awesome
I know how it feels to run out f bait on a hot bite! n a pinch- you can pluck the eyes out of the ones already caught with yer fish hook. amazingly effective and right handy.
Are there survivability issues when we release these fish caught quickly from very deep water?
my understanding is that if you bring them up slowly, they will be fine :)
Yeah they aren't going to survive.. so if you wanna keep them anything 30+ is going to be fine.. if you are releasing them 30+ is unethical and they won't live..
Are perch different when it comes to the swim bladder I was told normally you don't release fish if they're taken out of deep water
hi Connor - the key to releasing fish in out of deep water is to bring them in slowly and then release immediately and they will be totally fine :)
@@thundermistlures cool good to know, keep up the good work!
it doesn't metter.
Ivo i would like to spend a summer with you catching perch
love to eat them period !
Thanks for sharing Ivo, it's more than a nice video of my favorite fish.
Greetings from Holland,
Great to hear from you in Holland Peter and thanks for tuning in and for writing in :) Hope all is well
I didn't know Lake Erie was that deep. Lake Michigan has Jumbo Perch. I have caught some 14 and 15 inchers.
What's a good time to go fishing for lake Erie perch. And a good bait to catch them?
