The “took me hostage and made your demands, I couldn’t meet them so you cut off my fingers” is all part of his desire for punishment in this scenario. You got it. It’s like a “role play”
The water spots mentioned are in areas where the band is from. Chicago for one.
I saw third eye blind in Covington and saw a poster for alkaline trio and sure to a series of unfortunate events I work that night from memory lol, so never looked further into it, but I regret that more than anything lmao
The creek is in the suburbs of Chicago, relatively near where Matt Skiba grew up. Chicago is on lake Michigan where the band is from. The marina is near San Francisco, where Skiba had moved to a few years prior to this recording. They refer to their places of living (mostly chicago) in alot of their songs
Alkaline Trio is my favorite! You can never 100% tell what they’re singing about because they are very metaphorical in their writing.
Edit/Addition-Tuck Me In and Prevent this Tragedy are wayyy more evil than this song!
