    I use a drop of gear oil at each link, it takes about 4min. i do it once every week (abt 400km, though i could stretch that to 600-700km before the chain gets dry) and i clean the chain every 4-5 weeks. The gear oil doesn't last as long as the chain lube sprays but i feel more confident with it.
    I would probably use chain lube if i was living in a place with frequent rain though.
    About the tire pressure, i installed a TPMS (with external, screw on sensors) and it really works great, saving me from the hassle of checking every day.

    I like to take saturdays or sundays to go over the bike like this(learned a good few extra steps I wasnt aware of here) aswell as wash it over and remove the layer of squashed insects thats accumulated over the week..
    Before I ride I always look underneath first to check for oil and fluid spillage, I then step on the tires to check pressure(obviously not an accurate reading, but when it is the correct pressure almost all the time I do notice if its off after having done it everytime), I get on the bike and turn on it on, then I check the lights, breaklight and signal light, lastly check the breakes by making sure they dont give when I squeeze them. All in all takes 10-15 seconds extra in the morning before I start my commute to work.

      @MotoMirius  Год назад

    David, this is superb stuff. Thank you for making this. The one with the coolant level check was a cool and mighty useful trick.
    One question though - I get why it's better to lube the chain when it's reasonably hot. But what if I need to clean it? Should that be done on a hot chain as well?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  3 года назад +1

      Thanks. Some argue it doesn't matter with a sealed chain, or that you even need to oil, but I think it's optimistic to assume that the seals will remain in perfect condition as the links wear on a chain. A warm chain will be expanded and the gaps between the parts opened, allowing the lube to penetrate better. With cleaning, the same would be true but typically the cleaner will dissolve the lube anyway. Skäl David

    • @arjpillai
      @arjpillai 3 года назад

      @@MotoMirius muck, dust, rust etc. any one or more of those things can reduce the chain's life. So, yeah, I'm firmly in the camp that believes sealed chains need to be cleaned and lubed. Frequency might vary, but the necessity doesn't.
      Speaking of which, I'll take that as a 'yes' for cleaning the chain when hot followed by lubing. Bought a pre-owned 2nd gen 390 Duke and it's so easy to love and care for.
      Also, I tried flashing my phone's flash light to check the coolant reservoir and it surprisingly didn't work. Will need a sharper and more focused source of light, ala your torch.

    Loving the work! Very useful tips with great topics throughout your channel. Question..... Gen 1 Duke 390... it’s stock but would I benefit from adding an ECU? I think you said on a previous vid these bikes run lean... Any benefit and would you point me in the right direction on the best simple ECU if needed (such thing as an auto tune ECU???). Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  3 года назад +1

      Thanks. Yes you can put a piggyback on a stock bike - it will aid with the lean running at low revs (low speed, low revs is an emissions issue because it's what's expected in city where the controls are strictest). If you never intend to modify your bike then your choice of entry level is BoosterPlug or RapidBike Easy. BP alters the temp reading to fool the bike into injecting more fuel but otherwise everything runs on the stock ECU. RB Easy is a real piggyback and has some manual settings if you get an engine light. Skäl David

    I have a problem bro, I think I know where is the problem, but I need your opinion also. Some times when I am neutral on traffic light, I press the clutch and when I put the first gear, it make a pop sound and the bike turn off. Some times it does it also when i gear down for example from 3rd to 2nd. Do you think also that is from the clutch sensor?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  2 года назад

      I'm assuming that you have the clutch lever in far enough/ properly adjusted - its' very easy to stall the engine if you drop the revs too low and the clutch isn't fully in. Depends also what you mean by the bike turns off - I would use that phrase to describe the bike shutting down completely with all electrics like it would if you turned the key off. A pop sound sounds like changing gears when the clutch is still engaged.

    Hi David. I hope you are doing fine. Since I appreciate the knowledge that you have around the bike. I would like your guidance. I own 2017 D390, 9.5k on the clock and I keep missing coolant from reservoir tank. Changed the trush green thing and replaced it with motorex 3.0. Filled new and bled by the book. No matter what, coolant is keep lowering without leaks, no white steam, to contamitaed oil. The only thing that I noticed is that after a long ride, the radiator's cap is smelling like hot coolant. Any suggestions accordingly ? Thanks in advance

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  4 года назад

      If you are losing coolant then there are a few possibilities. Leak is the first even if you’ve not noticed it. Trapped in the system that is working it’s way out is the next mist obvious. It can be hard to get all the air out whilst bleeding. If you had any other issues such as pressurisation from a head gasket leak it should have been present before. Good luck. Skäl. David

      Hi Dolo. I've seen complaints by heavy riders that the forks are too soft, not heard anyone say they are too stiff before. Stiffness is mostly a function of spring rather than oil. Gen 2 Dukes meet higher emissions standards. This means that they are more restrictive of how much fuel the ECU can add. The gen 1 ECU has the ability to add more fuel. I don’t have a set time frame. Very often it’s after filming. Skäl. David

      Hi Irak. Thanks for that. I’m not too likely to be able to get my hands on a TT any time in the near future. But as far as I’m aware the XT and TT are pretty comparable mechanically. Skäl. David.

      I tried to change the oil and i have a problem. I open the screw from under engine it has run out some oil but not all. Before that i open the oil filter cap and i remove it. When i try to put the oil in the tank oil it enter just 1.5 l and that must to enter 2.9 l. When i put the dipstick inside the tank and i remove it i realisez that part of the old oil was stuck there. I don't realize what i do wrong.. Thanks for your answer and i will be really glad if you can help me with this problem.. i don't know what to do

      Hi Irak. Remember that this is a dry sump engine. Do this is good news as it means the check valve is working (unlike on mine) and keeping the oil in the oil tank. You need to remove the drain plug on the down tube (seized on mine) to drain the tank. Good luck.

    Iam getting low oil pressure what's the problem....?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  2 года назад

      Not enough oil, blocked filter or screens, failing oil pump, leaking water pump seals or a faulty oil pressure sensor. Change the oil first unless it has been done very recently or if you've done any work on the engine like new clutch.

      My oil level is in correct level when I cross 60kmph it is showing low oil pressure

      @@tharunnanu3220 What happens in lower gears with the same revs? You have ruled out low oil - but the other causes are still possible - old or blocked oil filter for example will cause this.

    So there is thing called a 'BATTERY' in our bikes, so it helps to start our engine so u need ur battery to be good charging level and battery can get damaged if it isn't maintained or left drain all the charge and the main thing is this battery is important than ur horn, headlights, indicators and the stone in ur tyre.
    Now get good.

      If your bike won't start you don't die as you do if you get a tyre failure when riding or if a truck takes you out because your indicator isn't working. Daily checks are for your safety not your convenience.

    Love your channel. I'm looking at buying a used 2017 Duke 390 but the muffler has been deleted (cat has been left installed). What effects does this have on the engine (+ / - ) . Appreciate your time.

      Thanks Michael. Which muffler has been deleted? In either case It should be running an aftermarket piggyback to remap for the additional fuel it will need, otherwise its likely to be running lean and could have detonation damage. Gen 2 bikes meet higher emissions standards which cap the amount of fuel the stock ECU can inject. Skäl. David
