I just bought one 3 days ago with 2k miles on it. Of course the guy who sold it lied an said he just changed it, but i checked the bubble when i got home completely black an pretty low!! An going from a 6oo to a 300 lol talk about gear changing alot lol that red light is on every second!!! Thanks for the video brother
I think those 390 engines just chug oil like crazy. I've had the same experience recently at 6200 km (3.8k miles), around 3000 km (1.8k miles) and 6 months after the previous oil change.
Thanks for the video..I bought a 2018 Duke 390 from original owner with 1550. Oil change was done at 660mi. Up here in North Jersey I realized that it was low. But yes, KTM dealerships are crooks. Come springtime imma change the oil. Can you believe they dealership tried charging $50 to transfer warranty?!?
You do have to regularly check the oil level on the Duke 390. Its been said that they do burn oil a bit and need topping up. So watch out for that one.
just wanted to say I appreciate your video. found myself in a similar situation -- got my first maintenance at 800 and then at 2100 I saw smoke from the radiator. Both my coolant and oil levels are abnormally low, so going to fix both myself. thanks for guidance!
Thanks Justin! Is there anything I should be checking after every ride or at any time after my first service? The bike is a month old with 1100 miles and since it is so new, I just climb on it and go thinking surely nothing can be wrong or needing my attention. Obviously you have not filmed a video while resetting the TFT screen after service because I was thinking I could find it in your Channel line-up.
I will see if I can get the information again from a friend of mine, but something is wrong with my bike. I have 2,100 miles ish on mine and had the oil originally changed at the recommended service. Now they swear they changed my oil, but when the oil light came on and I did the oil change only half of the capacity came out. I took it back for an oil consumption issue. They put 2 miles on my bike said they couldn't find any leaks and that they were no longer a KTM franchise so even if it did have a problem they couldn't do anything with it. They had my bike for two weeks. I haven't ridden it since. Not sure what to do. Do I ride it and break down or do I travel farther to another shop? For now I let it sit.
If your leaking oil it’s not because you removed the front sprocket guard it’s most likely because you have a bad crank case gasket removing the front sprocket cover shouldn’t cause your oil to leak on any bike
Hey Justin first of all great video. I wanted to ask if the 390 was still using oil after you changed it yourself? My little bro has this bike and I performed the first service for him and like you had to reuse the screens. He’s ridden maybe 800 miles since and no oil can be seen in the sight glass. I’m thinking there’s definitely an issue; found your video so I have wanted to ask you how this turned out.
My service light went on during tonight's ride. I pulled over and check when my next service is due, 158kms before next service. So then I checked my oil level and there was no oil in the window. I didn't get a oil warning light. So would the little to no oil level cause the service light to come on?
I can't get a solid answer from KTM either, but if you can show proof of millage and receipt of oil and filter purchased you should be fine. Video everything. KTM Only offers a 2 year warranty and I have had zero luck when it came to an oil consumption concern. KTM Really needs to step up for those shops not willing to cover items under warranty. just sayin
Hey Justin, good video.. only thing I would say is DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER to clean anything plastic, it actually melts plastics depending on the brand you buy. Don’t ask me How I know this lol Cheers
I also heard you should take the filters out first b4 u pull the drain plug out, because the shit on the filters will drain down. DUDE MINE HAS 2K MILES IT'S PITCH BLACK!!!
Hey Justin. as I am writing this I feel like I know the answer already. I didn't change the O ring and the bike is now dripping just a little bit of oil every 30 mins or so from the oil filter area. Just a tiny little bit. And I assume it's because of the O ring. I guess I will find out now haha.
I know that the filter looked similar, but with the kit being for a different bike, I would have certainly double checked that part number on that new filter before I would have installed it. It could possibly not be the correct filter.
I wonder how much the tech made that serviced your motorcycle? The bill is very high, but I bet the tech was making a low hourly wage. What is minimum wage in California, $12? But there are no excuses for not doing the work you were billed for.
I actually regret buying it in many was except one. It was light enough to learn on and pass the DMV Test. Other than that....:( I bought a ZX6R a year and a half later
Hi mate. I own a bandit 1255cc. The adjustment marks of the chain when set equal, the sprocket teeth then touches the chain to the inside side or are just beside it. But in order to make the sprocket sits centered inside the chain I had to not rely on the equal measurement of the tension markers on the swingarm! What should I do!!!! Should I keep the sprocket teeth centered inside the chain even though the chain adjustment marks are not even on both sides ? Or is it okay to make the sprocket teeth tilted to the inside of the chain and therefore the chain marks on the swing arm on both sides are somewhat similar!
Get the back wheel off the ground and spin the back wheel. Check sprocket to chain alignment and if the sprocket is rubbing the chain adjust accordingly. I never race prep bikes from the adjuster marks on the swing arm.
Elie Nehme I’m glad someone was able to answer your comment. I myself didn’t know how to answer. I may may work on my own bikes and am a professional automotive mechanic, but there are certain things I have to see in person to know what this issue is. 🍻👍
Time to file a lawsuit against that crooked KTM Dealer. When they get a summons to court, I'll bet you will get a call from them and they will want to settle with you. It seems that you have enough evidence to prove they are thieves and you are one of their victims. Good luck Justin.
Marsha Jackson 4 was a hair too loose. 5/32 was a better fit. Basically is not the same. Close yes, but not the same. Like comparing 13mm to 1/2 or 14mm to 9/16
You can always tell an experienced professional. Justin is the real deal. i will learn for my service on 2020 390 Adventure.

I work on ALOT of ATV's and bikes. KTM and Polaris are notorious for mixing metric and SAE. KTMs are sweet machines
Thank you so much man. Watched your video as I did my oil change and it went smoothly. Really helped me out!
Great to hear! Glad I could Help. Cheers!

Thought I clicked on a different video, it came on and Chris Pratt started talking 😂
I love my duke. I haven't had any issues
Hi Justin , nice video ..very informative.. How's your Duke 390 , no issues , still ok ?
Awesome video with some great video angles thanks justin

Have you set your valves yet? My bike has 5300 miles on it. Thinking I should.
My opinion..... doesn't burn or leak oil. The service guy didn't know what he was doing. Good thing they didn't cost u a motor.

Thx man
Thanks Justin, Your video is great just what I wanted to see how it is done.
Question: shouldn't you fill up the oil filter first than put it back. I know at cars you do that but on bicycles?
In the cars you can do it when the oil filter container is upwards in order to avoiding refilling. Here the gravity is not your friend
@@yowelf19 thanks for the explanation. 👍

You should have looked in the sight window. You would be able to tell if there was new oil in it at least.
If you do the scheduled maintanance (oil change) at home will the warranty be void ❓

I’d say the dealer owes you some money if they were supposed to change your oil and it wasn’t
Hey Dustin, happy 4th. Be safe. Peace.
Thanks Brotherman, but the name is Justin. Just FYI
They sure went out of their way to make that a pain.
xephael It really wasn’t that bad.

I agree. Thanks for typing in your suggestion. You are 100% correct.
I think it just burns oil because its a 390 an we ride the piss out of them. Plus the fluid an the gear box its a weird set up.
I also heard you should take the filters out first b4 u pull the drain plug out, because the shit on the filters will drain down. DUDE MINE HAS 2K MILES IT'S PITCH BLACK!!!

No more oil leak! Woohoo!
its fine that the oil is black even after 200 meters it should be black
I miss my gixxer already " can't lie"

KTM 390 sips oil @20ml / 200 km approx.. it's natural to this engine
Do you know where to but this kit online?
If you are going to spend money on an oil change kit stick with the KTM kit. It will always work...
Excelent!...now go after that dealer.
I wonder how much the tech made that serviced your motorcycle? The bill is very high, but I bet the tech was making a low hourly wage. What is minimum wage in California, $12? But there are no excuses for not doing the work you were billed for.
MotorheadRedo $10.50
Dude mine has oil specs on the exhaust to just noticed. Msn i regret buying this. It was all i could afford
I actually regret buying it in many was except one. It was light enough to learn on and pass the DMV Test. Other than that....:( I bought a ZX6R a year and a half later
1.7l not 1.8l quarts and litres are different.
👍
Sound like the dealer screwed u
Corbett Knowles That’s what I’m thinking.
Corbett Knowles if it’s not leaking oil it must be burning it,right ? I don’t know but I would be finding out and bringing it back, jus sayin’

You should of got a Kawasaki instead. I have a bike with close to a 100,000 miles and no issues !
Hey can you please send me the car book of this motorcycle

I chang the oil on all my 4 strokes every 6 hrs.
Maybe it is all metric drivers, 4mm and 5/32 are basically the same.
Marsha Jackson 4 was a hair too loose. 5/32 was a better fit. Basically is not the same. Close yes, but not the same. Like comparing 13mm to 1/2 or 14mm to 9/16
Stamped out bolts are often loose , i use a 5/32 socket for old honda engine casing screws as they fit better .
trust no one
