Hi David! Another great video! I've been watching your videos for a while, is a quite impressive yours skills, could you share with us what do you do for living? And obvious, feel free if you don't wanna share!!! Regards from Brazil!!!!
I don't record the decibel reading. It isn't any louder than the road legal Akrapovic slip on that KTM sells for the bike. I don't record the level because people get hung up over it when in reality how loud an exhaust is has very little to do with the quality of the sound that an exhaust makes. Skäl David
@@MotoMirius Yeah well it would be nice to know what the db is so people can be assured that their not breaking the db limit in their area, don't you think.
@@dominic9279 Not going to happen. That would make me potentially liable if someone were stopped by the police who found that bike had a different decibel level to what I recorded.

please help me, do you think it makes sense to make this change to my rc 125? if it's worth it , should I also modifying the baffle and how ? (I'm not going to remove it to avoid problems with the police) do you think I would end up ruining the sound or the very small power at my disposal ? (Sorry for my very poor English)
Hello, is there anywhere I can buy a stock exhaust to do this on as I want to do it but I’m afraid that I will mess it up and won’t have a good exhaust anymore?
eBay. There is a reason you see two exhausts in this picture. I have the stock and I have a modified version. Actually I have more than one modified versions...
Measure the rivet that you have in there - what rivets you have available and how they are measure depends on whether you are metric or imperial, where you are in the world and where you are looking to buy. You could use screws but it wouldn't look as good as rivets.
Exhaust length is critical for performance so no. If you are looking for performance you need to invest some cash into a slip on with proven gains. This shouldn’t harm the engine but as ever it depends where you are. If you have concerns, leave the baffle in. But if you want performance you need to invest in a piggyback anyway. Skäl. David
Hello, How loud is the bike De-baffled, vs Stubby, vs no exhaust straight out of the cat? I just removed the exhaust completely just having it come out of the cat to see what it sounds like, and I'd say it's a little bit too loud. Just curious what you'd say the different sound levels are.
Hi. Loud is very subjective. Premuffler and silencer removal is much too loud for most people, not a little bit too loud - you would have to live somewhere with no people and no police. After that it's just a matter of tuning the sound to what you want. I would recommend decat and put the premuffler back on, then go from there. Stubby with debaffle will be borderline too loud - because it will be a straight through system with no baffles, OK for low rev though town and very loud on acceleration. Stubby with baffle is similar to/ slightly louder than stock debaffle.
@@MotoMirius I'll have to watch more of your videos. Is there a noticeable power increase with decat? I have the booster plug installed on my bike, is that adequate for not leaning the bike out for a decat?
@@Only1Sethy There isn't really anything that on its own will give a noticeable power increase. What dyno tests have shown is that removing the premuffler will reduce mid range power - with the stock ECU. If you were to do it with a dyno and get a custom tune on a piggyback you might get more power. Boosterplug is designed to smooth out low rev running, it isn't designed for or capable of dealing with any major modifications.
@@Only1Sethy It's a good starting point. Experiment a bit, see what it's like if you only take the slip on off, see what it sounds like if you debaffle. With a bit of patience you can pick up a stock muffler for cheap. Good luck, see what sound you like.
Yes, removing the fibre will make the exhaust louder. It is something that you can experiment with. Some people will remove just at the end. There are many ways you can play with the sound once you can start taking the silencer apart, which is why it's good that KTM provided a high quality exhaust.
Thanks for sharing David! If I understand correctly, the exhaust can be cut with the baffle in?? (It may just be more difficult to pull the end cap off...?) Regards!
5 лет назад
Sorry if I'm wrong, but I think the baffle was removed before this video. Regards!
Baffle was removed. But it is not necessary. If you drill out the rivets and then cut you can knock the end cap out with a wooden block. A bit fiddly but great if you want to keep the baffle in - or to cut out after. Skäl. David
If you can find a way of gripping it without damage yes. It can be on tight. Worst case you can just rivet it back on. Of course if you don’t care about the baffle then, shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
I had no luck with the hole cutter at all. I also tried a 40mm industrial cutter with the same result. Eventually I used a tig welder to burn through the baffle and just as I thought - the baffle was heavily welded with a 3 - 4mm hardened metal wall at the back.... But it all ended well. I turned a 2mm aluminium insert for the exhaust as to round off the job. Looks and sounds good!
If I recall correctly it’s a Delkavic. No stalling at low revs. I wouldn’t recommend riding at low revs for a couple of reasons. Most people find that adding a fuelling device makes that go away. Also possible if your valves haven’t been checked. Skäl. David

It could be either, drop the slip on back off and check the surface of the gasket, if it's OK then you are good and just need to align it properly when refitting, if there is damage then get a new one, but the old one will be fine for now, though you may still find that it will seal when refitted. Fitting exhausts properly is always a matter of experience.
Typically no. But, it’s very hard to generalise. For example, if you live somewhere at high altitude your bike will already be running lean. However, fitting an Akrapovic which flows better is OK according to KTM. Skäl. David
Of course, it's got less chance to silence - shorter exhausts with the same construction will always be louder. it's not going to be LOUD because you've got a cat and presilencer in front of it.
jose Carlos Alves Pereira Junior I’m from Brazil too but leaving in Arizona. Os vídeos são muito bons e eu já fiz o mesmo na minha Duke390 e postei o vídeo no meu canal :)
Shortening will impact the sound, I would expect little impact on performance. However in the coming weeks I propose to do some tests on this - but my experience is that on the 390 there is not much change.
@@MotoMirius Been watching this vid back and forth. So far, I think this is the best way to achieve the louder sound without spending unnecessary cost. All I need is to be heard in the traffic for my own safety. Once again, thank you David.
Moto Mirius I’m sorry. I was not clear. What I mean is if you don’t do the cat eliminator and remove just the can (exhaust), is it ok to ride without piggyback ECU?
It can have a baffle or not have a baffle just like the stock exhaust. You can modify the baffle, just like the stock exhaust. You can also make it removable, just like the stock exhaust. Just like the stock exhaust you can also alter the sound levels by swapping the cat and/ or presilencer with different pipes to vary the level of sound reduction.
On a gen 2 Duke the exhaust is made of the header pipe which connects to the engine then the cat which sits by your left knee leg when riding the into the presilencer by the rear shock then out to the rear silencer. Cat deletes normally remove both cat and presilencer. Skäl. David
@@MotoMirius Sir, my main concern is, by removing the stock exhaust and the bend pipe that is attached to it and installing an aftermarket exhaust with an aftermarket bend pipe, will there be any unwanted consequences ? I do not wish for the catletic converter to be disturbed or removed and judging from your explanation, it won't be involved at all in what I want to do right ?
If you are just removing the rear silencer and not the presilencer then no, you will not remove the cat. If that is all you do then there should not be any consequences. If your new silencer is very free flowing then you may benefit from an aftermarket fuelling device to avoid the bike running lean. Normally it’s ok. Skäl. David
White is water - normal in cold and damp conditions where water will condense in the exhaust as a hot exhaust cools down - then burns away as the hot exhaust gas hits it. If you live somewhere hot, you may never see this.
Depends on the tester but rare to fail. It’s not that loud compared to a lot of Harleys that pass. You might get an advisory. A decat with this is a different ball game. Skäl. David
Baffle in saves on Mr plod moments but so many bikes are stupid loud anyway do probably not an issue..My mot guy says testers can't use a decibel meter the reg is does it sound stock and without two identical bikes one stock and one modded there's no way of knowing so they make a judgement normally ignoring the volume.. but...police can use decibel meters and do if they feel inclined ...👍🏻☮❤
Indeed. But it’s more the DVLA inspectors at the roadside. However even with stubby and no baffle you’d be hard pushed to be too loud with this bike. Decat and that’s a whole different game as there is a chunky presilencer tucked in front of the rear shock. Not that you have the issue at the moment 😂. Skäl. David
Oh good lord, why must you insist on using the originel holes and rivets and not just ues smoothed off self tapping screws? Think outside the box like a machinist and keep it simple. The KISS principle.
KISS means using rivets - almost nobody watching this is going to have machinist skills, but everybody can manage rivets. And it keeps the stock look - which is important to many people.
@@MotoMirius True. I get it. Although It may also be difficult for some to get the holes to line up. That's why I mentioned self tapping screws. Smoothed off with a dremel or grinder of some sort. Oh BTW, good job on the vid! 👍
@@Silver_Surfer_1 You aren't the first to suggest screws and if you want a proper custom look then I think your suggestion is a great way to go - the rivets are ugly even if they are so widely used for this!

Oh yes. I have no doubt that if I rode any of my bikes across Germany then they would likely be impounded. In the UK we don’t have the same legal interpretation of the Euro legislation - as you are surely aware the EU laws are adopted locally in each country with slightly different wordings. I’m considering a new video I can refer people to when this question comes up.
Thanks for a great detailed video
Two suggestions based on my own experience
- to measure the location for new holes ... simply use the masking tape on the removed end cap and poke the holes through the tape - remove the tape and reapply to the newly cut body, using the edge of the tape for depth and aligning the circumference location
- when applying silicon sealant, apply a small bead then spray your finger with windex before running it along the bead ... along with the mask-off, this gives a pro finish!

@@MotoMirius Yes I was referring to the sealant around the riveted ends on the can itself not the band clamp. Should have made that more apparent haha.
Hi David! Another great video! I've been watching your videos for a while, is a quite impressive yours skills, could you share with us what do you do for living? And obvious, feel free if you don't wanna share!!!
Regards from Brazil!!!!
Hi Jerômino. Thanks for that it’s much appreciated. For a living I work in an office so this is a chance to do something different. Skäl. David
Hey, do you have any suggestions on how id take the end cap off with the baffle still in the exhaust?
Much waited video
Thanks. Hope it was good for you. Skäl. David
What was the decibel reading
@@MotoMirius well you just giving an idea of what the db is definitely wont make you liable mate you're just a RUclipsr with your own ideas.
You asked "it would be nice to know what the db is so people can be assured that their not breaking the db limit in their area, don't you think." That is exactly why I don't do it - a bit different from my opinion to give some idea - don't you think?
please help me, do you think it makes sense to make this change to my rc 125? if it's worth it , should I also modifying the baffle and how ? (I'm not going to remove it to avoid problems with the police) do you think I would end up ruining the sound or the very small power at my disposal ? (Sorry for my very poor English)
It only makes sense if this makes sense to you. Sound is very subjective - some people like the change, others don't.
just make new holes no need to do all that marking and attempting to match it up .... great info thanks.
Yes, you can do that. Depends what you are going for.
Bro what is that rivet size and also if rivet are not available can we use same size screw to lock that baffle cap?
Measure the rivet that you have in there - what rivets you have available and how they are measure depends on whether you are metric or imperial, where you are in the world and where you are looking to buy. You could use screws but it wouldn't look as good as rivets.
Any performance gains?
Will it harm the engine?
Exhaust length is critical for performance so no. If you are looking for performance you need to invest some cash into a slip on with proven gains. This shouldn’t harm the engine but as ever it depends where you are. If you have concerns, leave the baffle in. But if you want performance you need to invest in a piggyback anyway. Skäl. David
can you tell me why was that smoke coming from your exhaust ?
Cold day and bike runs rich on startup with piggyback ECU
What happens if i just remove the fiber thiggy inside and keep it the same length?(i just want it to look stock and sound loud)
It will be loud, but I wouldn't guarantee in a good way. I prefer the shorter version for being louder and most will not realise it is shorter.
@@MotoMirius aight thanks ❤️❤️❤️
Great, I will do as you instructed. Thank you
Good luck with that. Skäl.
@@MotoMirius oh okay. I'm thinking about just drilling the muffler and calling that good for now!
@@Only1Sethy It's a good starting point. Experiment a bit, see what it's like if you only take the slip on off, see what it sounds like if you debaffle. With a bit of patience you can pick up a stock muffler for cheap. Good luck, see what sound you like.
Do you think if just taking out the fibre will increase the sound of the exhaust?
Yes, removing the fibre will make the exhaust louder. It is something that you can experiment with. Some people will remove just at the end. There are many ways you can play with the sound once you can start taking the silencer apart, which is why it's good that KTM provided a high quality exhaust.
Thanks for sharing David! If I understand correctly, the exhaust can be cut with the baffle in?? (It may just be more difficult to pull the end cap off...?) Regards!
Skäl. David
@@MotoMirius Can one drill out the rivets and knock out the end cap? (Not cutting the exhaust)
Hi! Which de-cat did you install? Did you experienced your engine stalling on slow rev? Thanks
If I recall correctly it’s a Delkavic. No stalling at low revs. I wouldn’t recommend riding at low revs for a couple of reasons. Most people find that adding a fuelling device makes that go away. Also possible if your valves haven’t been checked. Skäl. David
If I do that in Austria and the police catch me with that I would have to pay a shit load of money... But good work...
Thanks Patrick. Yes, there are places you can get away with this sort of mod and places that you just can't! Skäl David
Ce serait top de faire une vidéo sur le montage du support plaque court.

@@MotoMirius le support court pas celui d'origine
Oui, c'est vrai - ruclips.net/video/twIOrFbh9fc/видео.html
does it improve performance? (top speed, pickup)
Yes and no. No single change will make a noticeable change, but it will form a part of improved performance

if the exhaust gasket leaks a smidge i can feel some air close by is the gasket done for or can i just readjust it back
It could be either, drop the slip on back off and check the surface of the gasket, if it's OK then you are good and just need to align it properly when refitting, if there is damage then get a new one, but the old one will be fine for now, though you may still find that it will seal when refitted. Fitting exhausts properly is always a matter of experience.
@@MotoMirius thank you i did try that earlier it worked guess was a little off thank you and ride safe
Just removing the DB Killer do you need use ECU piggyback?
Typically no. But, it’s very hard to generalise. For example, if you live somewhere at high altitude your bike will already be running lean. However, fitting an Akrapovic which flows better is OK according to KTM. Skäl. David
I was just wondering what rear tyre size you have as yours looks bigger than mine
Rear tyre is 150/60. Skäl. David.
Did it really get a little louder
Of course, it's got less chance to silence - shorter exhausts with the same construction will always be louder. it's not going to be LOUD because you've got a cat and presilencer in front of it.
Good Man. Um from Brasil 👏🏾👍🏾
jose Carlos Alves Pereira Junior I’m from Brazil too but leaving in Arizona. Os vídeos são muito bons e eu já fiz o mesmo na minha Duke390 e postei o vídeo no meu canal :)
@@KROWARIZONA Oi tudo bem, também gosto do vídeo, não tenho um canal mas sou um fã da KTM
One question, does it affect the performance?
Shortening will impact the sound, I would expect little impact on performance. However in the coming weeks I propose to do some tests on this - but my experience is that on the 390 there is not much change.
@@MotoMirius Been watching this vid back and forth. So far, I think this is the best way to achieve the louder sound without spending unnecessary cost. All I need is to be heard in the traffic for my own safety. Once again, thank you David.
If I keep with the DeCat and remove the stock exhaust, can I ride normally?
Not sure I understand the question. You have a decat? Skäl. David
Moto Mirius I’m sorry. I was not clear. What I mean is if you don’t do the cat eliminator and remove just the can (exhaust), is it ok to ride without piggyback ECU?
If you remove the slip on I would recommend using a basic piggyback like RB Easy or Boosterplug. Skäl. David
It doesn't have baffle rt? Stubby exhaust
Greetings sir, can you inform me as to where the cat converter is located on a duke 390 or a 125 ?
Skäl. David
@@MotoMirius Thank you for your time, sure did provide a lot of useful insight.
Bless you, sir.
You are welcome and thank you. There is a video on the cat replacement if you wish to confirm your thoughts. ruclips.net/video/Jx8-hhV2P48/видео.html
great work dear
Thanks. Much appreciated. Skäl. David
Good ol hand saw😅
Sounds little better too
Time and a place for everything 😅. It’s a nice upgrade for almost nothing. Skäl. David
Why is the white smoke coming up ??
White is water - normal in cold and damp conditions where water will condense in the exhaust as a hot exhaust cools down - then burns away as the hot exhaust gas hits it. If you live somewhere hot, you may never see this.
@@MotoMirius Thanks for the info🙏
Hey David, will this exhaust pass an MOT
Depends on the tester but rare to fail. It’s not that loud compared to a lot of Harleys that pass. You might get an advisory. A decat with this is a different ball game. Skäl. David
soy de espala y me has salvado la vida jajaja gracias
gran cosa, gracias
Bro what is that sealer name?
Various brands - high temp rtv gasket maker. Wouldn't use it closer to the engine but it's OK for the slip on in my experience.
Pls cut the DB KILLER IN BS6 KTM BIKE i am waiting your video
What are you waiting for? It's the same. I'm never going to cut a BS6 because they don't sell them here. Skäl David
@@MotoMirius thank u so much 👍
Why your bike throwing blue smoke
Valve stem seals need changing - it drains down when the bike is sitting and clears once the bike is started.

What you should avoid is the glass getting into you lungs.
Particles of all sorts need to be avoided whether you are sanding wood, sitting by a fire or any other similar situation.

well to be honest these engines never sounded good to me none of the small dukes i had a slip on mine it really sounded bad unpleasantly loud and really bad tone (obviously because its a small engine) so i put on my original exhaust and to be honest to me it sounds better.
Exhaust sound is a really personal thing. I very much agree that getting the sound and tone right is very important. I like where I am now because it now sounds like a small single when blipped and quiet when otherwise riding. Skäl. David
This can't be legal.
It depends what country you live in. Some yes, some no. And in the case of some countries such as the US what state you live in. Skäl. David
@@MotoMirius I live in germany. Over here it's definitely illegal. But what about your country?
@@MotoMirius your language sounds like you're from England.
Oh yes. I have no doubt that if I rode any of my bikes across Germany then they would likely be impounded. In the UK we don’t have the same legal interpretation of the Euro legislation - as you are surely aware the EU laws are adopted locally in each country with slightly different wordings.
