    Quick note 3:22
1st. Something I think should be acknowledged in this is that some shows are killed by what most people consider “nitpicks”. The most fatal aviation accident in history was caused by a bunch of small different issues that all aligned with a horrible outcome, many shows suffer from this so nitpicking isn’t always the best thing to point out.
2nd. Just saying sometimes taking your time to break things down in long form videos better allows you to make points. As someone who lives listening to podcasts like EFAP (Every frame of pause) there movie and show breakdowns can often last anywhere between 4 to +10 hours and sometimes span multiple videos. While that’s quite long they often do a great job pointing everything out and explaining reasoning and sources for why something is good or bad. So often times if you want to go more in depth long form is much better.
Note: sorry for the bad punctuation, it was almost midnight when I was writing this.

Your punctuation was perfectly fine mate. Just As someone that thinks EFAP with Mauler and co is everything wrong with film criticism its just a can of worms I don't really want to go into. Art isn't objective like Aviation. A loose bolt can kill. A continuity error will effect people differently.
EFAP and cinema sins all these channels have turned watching movies and shows into a game of find the issues rather than actively engaging in the art form. I am not really gonna go much further but now that you know my stance I hope that helps.

@@DareToEntertain While I understand you said that’s as fair as you’ll go, I think you should know EFAP is very open to the acknowledgment of good writing (check out one of their three arcane videos they absolutely love that show.) I’d say it’s more just that they like to give there opinions on new media. The problem they then run into being Hollywood, which hasn’t been producing very good media. Also I wouldn’t compare EFAP to cinema sins considering the stance they have on them.

You *do* understand that genderbending Penguin was done to satisfy DEI? Bruce Timm literally said "there is not enough good female villains in Batman" or something to that extent.
There are plenty of good female villains in Batman media that were not touched in that show. Or they could've just, oh I dunno, made one up? Like they did with Harley.

  • @doro626

I found it slow, or the pacing uneven and the animation extremely cheap in a few episodes. The "New" villains seemed to work better because they didnt have BAS episodes to compare against. In every instance when there was a comparison the BAS blew the portrayal away. Maybe because it was the first episode, but I didnt mind the penguin. I liked that the opening to BAS starts with a building exploding and she well... Onomatopoeia and the Carnival episodes were my favorites. I didnt like this hyper angry and rude Bruce. I hope it gets a second season if the writing gets a little better.

I personally don’t like this show, but it has nothing to do with character designs. my main problem with this show much like a lot of other fair criticism I see about the show has to do with the writing.
Particularly with Batman himself, for whatever reason I just find myself not being a fan of this depiction of Batman. TBF I’ve never been a super huge fan of the Batman’s that are depicted as cold and mean at times to alfred (because I will not stand Alfred slander as long as I live) and I’m just not a fan of the voice they picked for him. Nothing against the actor himself.
Even if everything else is fine, if you can’t get BATMAN right in a BATMAN show then I just can’t get behind it.

I thought they made Babs black because there was supposed to be a batgirl movie. I completely forgot about the Matt reeves Gordon. One thing that I thought was missing ( but would definitely enrage the anti woke mob) is in the hitman episode, I had thoughts of Medgar Evers, or Malcolm X defending their home from people trying to do them harm ( Ie people wanting the black commissioner and his family to leave), but the conversation that Barbara and Montoya has, is Montoya making fun of Babs for not being a city girl. It was a bit of blind casting that kind of betrayed the period ( unless this takes place in modern times and just looks like the 40-50's).

The argument of race swapping characters not mattering is interesting to me, would that also apply to Lucius Fox if he walked in the second episode as a redhead white guy?

    • @DareToEntertain
      @DareToEntertain  3 месяца назад

I find it interesting how in 16 minutes this is the sticking point for so many. The same way the show being 10 episodes yet people being stuck on the same small talking points that can be easily brushed off or explained. It is seemingly the same thing very time a new show comes out. You brush past my explanation that "yes it is important to stay close to the characters roots... But its also important to have these characters and this world feel new and fresh" Paraphrased for simplicity sake.
They'd done 84 or so episodes of the OG show. Timm has gone on to do JL and JLU and tons of movies and sequel shows. This is meant to have new ideas he couldnt do. You have gone to literally ONE of the only Black characters in all of Batman to say okay what if he was white? This point literally undoes everything you are trying to say. In Nolan's batman movies. How many characters of colour are they BAR Fox? How many PoC's were meant to be played by PoC's in those movies yet were played by white people? Many Many. Bane. Ra's. Talia. And so on.
I play down Gordan and Barabra because it is years old at this point. Matt Reeves worked on this show and he worked on The Batman were an african american played Gordan. You again have skipped this. Bruce Timm mentioned that for how vast Batman's rogues gallery is. There isnt many women in it which creates for it to be kinda one note. Gender swapping penguin wasnt perfect. But people yelling and moaning as if its the end of the world need to grow up such as the clip I played which he critises classic penguin tropes as "oh well its a woman now and she probably thought it was itimidating." This is dog whistling not even its just blatent sexism.
This is why its fucking moronic to even bother trying to rebuttal any of these. It isnt based on logic or reason. It's I liked what I have and what was done before just do that again. Copy and paste. The more interesting part of this is to ask the why? Why narrative reasons did they come up with for the changes. And if THOSE suck then yeah- lets go to town. Lets say how making x character a POC but doing nothing with it is a missed opportunity or whatnot. Instead of asking "oh what if we made the one known poc batman character white." Come on. I wanna see my comments be better than this.

@@DareToEntertain I’m not gonna be fully addressing the first 3 paragraphs cause they seem to be talking about arguments someone else made, but yes I do have an issue with bane and Ra’s being played by white dudes.
And I agree with you if a character is being race swapped there should be a good reason for it. And I unfortunately don’t see any good reason for most of the characters in this. Just like I wouldn’t like Lucia Fox being a white dude, the penguin being a woman, I don’t see any good reason for that change, the character basically the same, she just has some kids, which a dude penguin also could have had. The only real change I saw was Batman trying really hard not to punch the penguin which is kinda hilarious, watch the scene again it is very obvious they did not want Batman punching a woman. (And not Ike he has an aversion to assaulting penguin, remember when he WWE threw that man across this boat in Arkham origins that shit was awesome).
Harley being Asian has no reason to be except have a slightly racist outfit it being yellow, and just the worst looking outfit like why make it yellow. Her also not having blonde hair visible makes things look way more dull, definitely doesn’t make her stand out to have the same lame hair color as everyone else in the show.
I also find it hilarious that in Harley Quinn’s episode Barbra only made things worst, she only causes Quinn to circle back, she didn’t free Batman and stupidly wasted 5 Minutes smashing the Glass instead of using one brain cell she has to say ( oh an automatic door with a Control panel let me use my caveman brain. And doesn’t seem like the crack she caused saved Batman anyway soo very much seems she caused Harley to die, great job Barbra. Sorry side tangent.
One last thing thou Montoya’s body looks weird, without the overcoat it just looks like Harley’s and looks fine but with it….. It just looks like Gordon’s body with her head stapled on, it just visually looks weird.

@@dakadab9559that moment with Barbara actually pissed me off. I know for a fact several weapons were left because there is no way they took the other weapons just to leave a bat. Im sure the sledge hammer was still in the room on the floor and Barbra just didn’t bother going for it or like you said using her brain to use the panel console. @@dakadab9559 As another commentor said earlier today my biggest issue with Harley is not having the Yiddish or just **her** accent. That is to me one in the same with her. But as I state in the video later on not having her red and black seems to me a worse or as you say why make it yellow. I however have no feeling of it being racist at all. I think that is just a reach tbh. I think the entire colour pallet of that room from memory was green and yellow. its just a disgusting colour pallet. Its muted and ugly. I really really dislike the yellow and green.
With Penguin being a woman its literally just to try add some female variety to batmans rogues. He doesnt have many and most are anti-heroes or love interests for him. The rest are gangsters or low level villains that no one cares about. We have seen so many varients of penguin and this one was trying to go for that Mob Mum boss who hates her kids kinda vibe. Did it work? Eh... Dont think so. I see the reasoning to try but the reaction to barabra being a poc or anyone has been so vitriolic its just insane.
What I am trying to get across to so many people is there is a way to go about this better. Being a straight up racist or a sexist isnt going to get anywhere which so many people are just resorting to. This response from you is MUCH more elaborate and means we can actually look at why things do and don't work. I like nuance. It shows that there is like fucking a ton we already agree about. The barabra thing i agree with (with the glass) and this next point you make.
"Her also not having blonde hair visible makes things look way more dull, definitely doesn’t make her stand out to have the same lame hair color as everyone else in the show." Is genuinely perfect criticsm and is one I legit share. The short I did on this video got 11k views and its just filled with people thinking extremes of I must hate BTAS and previous designs and it just gets fatiguing having to explain that it is more complicate then they make it out to be.

It´s the problem every Batman animated series has to face unfortunatly. The Batman (as in the 2004 show) in the early days of the internet was heavily disliked because it wasn´t like tas. Brave and the Bold was disliked because it felt too childish to such an extent that the showrunners made a comedy sketch in one of the episodes about it and Beware the Batman apart from a few seems to be very forgotten, although that one I blame more on Warner Brothers marketing. It´ll take time, but fortunatly the primary critism here, is people that´ll forget about it after a month or so. Eh hopes up once season two comes out that the absurd negativity towards the show will go down and people can look back on Caped Crusader more positivly like the other shows.

Going back to the original BtAS, you will notice a lot of silent sections with only a couple of sound effects occurring. Its always nice to have a new batman animated show, continuance or not.
My grievances with the new Harley (which could be due to how the setting seems to be the beginning of Batman) is that she's very calm and tame. She was actually more soft spoken while in costume. She's not yet tied to the Joker in this version, so she hasn't been twisted by him. She still could have fallen into her own depravity, but it felt like she was busy being a psychiatrist even while masked.
2004 The Batman still has the best Clayface with Ethan bennett, unfortunatly we've returned to similar BtAS origins.
