    The diesel fuel in the kiddy pool gave me bad flashbacks to flushing a final drive on the trackhoe out in the field with a 2-and-a-half-gallon jug of diesel. Got to love the quality control these days. It sucks to get stopped on a project because a new part isn't right.

    Hey Nelson - nice job on the clean up of your pieces. Over the years I packed probably hundreds of bearings the way you did, but last year I bought a very inexpensive 2-piece tool that you put the bearing inside of, and then you can use a grease gun to force grease into the bearing. Works pretty well and is a lot less messy. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your repair. Now's the time to get it done, vs. when you're needing to use the tractor. 👍👍👍👍👍

    I use a lot of gas and diesel to clean parts too. Did you put grease on the bearings so the wouldn't be dry until the oil gets to them or are they supposed to be greased? I did axle seals on a 9n year ago and we just soaked the bearings in oil a nd installed them. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the repairs.

    • @Pennies_on_the_dollar
      @Pennies_on_the_dollar  2 года назад +1

      It works so good doesn't it Mr Monty!! Stinks to high heaven's, but sure eats at grease!!! Actually these are greased bearings. That's what makes such a mess on this series. There is a seal on the axle tube in (trumpet) as they call it, that keeps rear end oil in and out of the bearing to leak out. There isn't a seal at the backing plate, just shims (next video) 😁 Then there is a grease seal behind the brake backing plate to keep that grease in on the bearing🤦🤦 It's actually a weird design, it should have been made to all just run in oil, instead of all these seals within inches of each other!! 🤦🤦Thank you sir for the input, I have several videos already, hope y'all don't get bored!! Thank you as well for always being here, I really appreciate that!! Have a great day my friend!! 😁😁😁👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

Seems pride in work is a word no one cares about anymore 😡 Oh boy...we went round and round over physics (my machinest buddy) and I🤦🤦 I wanted a socket with another welded on the side and use the torque wrench. I wasn't about to chance stripping those fine threads on an expensive axle over bad quality control 😳😳 It really messed that day up, but they refunded without a question and field scrapped the nuts 😉 Thank you Mr Robert for always being here, I really appreciate that sir!! 😁😁😁👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    What's the socket size on that axle nut. 3 inches? Need to get one apart now and we don't have the socket size.

    Oh heck yeah, diesel is great for cleaning stuff. With it already rendered useless by being contaminated its a plus and not nearly as painful. Heck, that's the only way I've ever packed a bearing. They have those pneumatic grease packers...but I've not had the pleasure. The axle nuts must be made of the now common material known as Chinesium.... My parts washer is a 30 gallon drum, on its side, with a home made rack and heavy screen. I put the pick up tube an inch off the bottom to keep the sludge out of the pump and the pump is a 60 or 70 year old oil burner pump. Its the old style Webster (iirc) low pressure oil pump. Not the newer high pressure ones. The discharge goes to the top via a refrigerant hose off my old gauge set for flexibility. What's that you say..?? Pennies on the dollar....?? LOL

      Man yeah Mr Wendell!!! Can't beat that old fuel, especially when it was already unusable!! Thank you sir for that support on the bearing!! I have as well always!! BINGO on the issues with metals now a days 😳😳!
      Man that sounds awesome!! You can come up with some of the best creations!! I bet that pump will last forever!! I have one, I haven't picked up yet🤦🤦 but the pool did work pretty good!! Heck yeah your setup is absy pennies on the dollar 😁😁😁😁😉😉😉 Thank you sir for all your support and always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁😁👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Man, you definitely got the same luck I have. I don't know where you ordered parts from but I have had really good luck with parts from "Stevens tractor company LLC", and know I'm not related to them, but I usually get great service and parts from them.

    And ol' boy showed me how to pull the water out of oil and fuel by using a old refrigerator Freon compressor. We were out mining on the Southside of Mt. Denali in the 70's did a good enough job to get back out to the real world.

    You know old man.... If you put that parts washer up on a table, or even a trailer... It would be a lot nicer on the back and knees...
    Always make sure you get the races seated good the first time!!
    A piece of 1/2" or better, flat iron works great for getting races and seals started..
    Quality control 🙄 or.. they changed threads at some point... We've come across that before 🤬

    • @Pennies_on_the_dollar

      Just yesterday, I had to wash more parts....my buddy stood back and laughed at me, grunting to get back up from trh ground!! 😆😆😆😆 He said almost the exact same thing, and then made fun when he said, now you can't move it with all that diesel fuel in it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆😆 I do not like races or seals ,.always afraid I will mess them up!! Usually I have the ace machinest there do most of them, patience and attention to very suttle changes are not my strong point 🤦🤦🤦 It was bad, he brought all of his fancy tools, they are the same but it was like the thread chasings we're all still half attached in the nut. Maybe dull tooling? You could pick some out with a pick, but I figured for what I gave I wasn't doing it!! Those axles aren't cheap if I stripped them out!! I can be a bull in a fine china shop sometimes, and we have already run across some of those small differences you and AJ speak of! Thank goodness for his fancy little tools 😁😁 Thank you Ed for always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁😁👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
