Very few musicians can make me laugh just by the choice of notes and technique. 4:33 is a great example of that. There is a sense of humour in this performance that is hard to describe.

I was there the night he put that deep long gouge right behind the bridge. It was at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. It was a show heavy on reminiscence of his recently departed brother Phil.

My Dad took me to See Tommy 24 years ago in Ayr Citizens theatre. I was 14, I told my Dad I thought he was amazing and he Replied ‘that’s what happens when You spend too much time in yer bedroom’ lol. Love it 😍

Check out Tim van Roy's channel if you want really good lessons of Tommy's songs.
If you go to TrueFire.com you will find Tommys Fingerstyle milestones. It's a series of 97 videos where Tommy starts from the very basics and goes to his level. I found this about 4 or 5 years ago and it really works. I'm on video 50 and having ball with it.i understand he has a new version that replaces this one.
I played nothing but the base strings with my thumb pick for months. You can't go wrong by buying the videos. It works

I found it by accident. I had always wanted to learn to fingerpick since I purchased my Gretsch Country Gentleman with Chets. Name all over it in gold when I was about 20 years old but I could never find anyone close to me to teach me. After seeing Richard Smith and Tommy live in Fort Meyers, FL about 5 years ago I started following Tommy online. After one of his posting I made a comment I wanted to learn to Fingerpick someone from his organization told me about the videos. So I bought them and like they say, the rest is history
