    Great video dude. I own a top loader and bought it years ago thinking it was multi regional out the box. After powering it on I quickly realised I was wrong 😂
    I have a few other tray loading consoles that have the same issue as described here, so I might delve into deeper to see if I can get them functional again.
    Keep up the good work!

      Thanks, glad you liked the video. Hopefully you'll be able to use it to either region mod your neogeo CD or possibly fix any of those other optical drives you were talking about. The region switch procedure for any of the top loader neogeo CD systems is even easier since you don't need to take the motherboard out of the system to get to the solder points for each region. From what I remember the solder points for a top loader are near the front right portion of the board.

      Might have to give it a go, especially fixing the other machines. I have a front loading CD-i but the tray has always been really bad, sometimes refusing to even open.
      Now if only there was a mod to speed up the load time on a Neo Geo CD, I'd install that in a heartbeat 😂

      @@ryoma0045 I haven't installed one but there is a NEOGEO CD optical emulator available now. Loads straight from SD so it's faster.

    Some games do vary between Euro and US region, but the blood is always the same on both, only Japan region will have red blood on a game that is defaulting the softDIP to blood off.

    Hello Mr Chris! I cane here from seeing Player One Starts video on the repairs you did for him as well as from Kid Shoryuken and his recommendation for your channel. Looking forward to checking out you music covers of some of the PC engine/turbo games. Anyway I believe I may have spoken with you a couple years ago when I got my Turbo Duo. Life happens and I put it on the Backburner. It works but I have heard it is mandatory to get a cap job done on the machine. I just ordered Voltar’s Duo RGB mod kit to work with HD Retrovision component cables plus the new din and Jail Bar Caps. I was curious if knew about that mod and if so, if I could pay you to do the cap job and the Voltar RGB mod. I am waiting on the kit to arrive but already have the cables and the adapter. Anyway, pretty awesome that those RUclipsrs led me back to you. I look forward to hearing back and Rock On!

    Hi Chris! Thank you for the informative video. I imagine the European setting enables 50hz. Is there any other reason why someone in the U.S. would want to set their game to European? Looking forward to modding my toploader!

    • @Chris-Courage
      @Chris-Courage  2 месяца назад

      @@kermitthegaminghermit8736 No the European setting actually doesn't change to 50hz. There are just some region differences like game name(title screen) and blood or no blood in fighting games. For the most part, people would just be happy with having the Japanese and US settings available but there are a few games that will give you English language but still have blood using the Euro setting as opposed to the US setting which removes blood in some games.

    My front loader needs that belt replaced, what kind of belt is it?
    It does the same thing you described you repaired in this video.

    • @Chris-Courage
      @Chris-Courage  3 года назад

      Do an internet search on eBay or Amazon for Xbox 360 DVD drive belts. They are a good all-purpose belt that can be used for the Sega CD and Neo Geo CD drives.

    Why didn't you put in a Razoola UniBIOS CD?
    That gives you region switching straight up with no switch, and this front loader has a DIP BIOS chip in it, very simple mod.

    • @Chris-Courage
      @Chris-Courage  Год назад

      Because removing and installing chips to a board has a small risk factor. This was something I could do fairly easily with no risk to the system whatsoever.

    • @CaseTheCorvetteMan
      @CaseTheCorvetteMan Год назад

      @@Chris-Courage there is no risk if you have any soldering ability at all, it isn't hard. And if you cock it up, run a wire. Piss easy.
      Maybe though, if you don't have the skill, just a thought that maybe you shouldn't be making videos telling others how they should fix things.

    • @Chris-Courage
      @Chris-Courage  Год назад

      @@CaseTheCorvetteMan I don't think I've ever seen any information of somebody installing a unibios in a Neo Geo CD that didn't require removing a chip from the board and installing a new one to it. So if there's an easier method for the front loader, then I know nothing about it. If there is indeed an easy way to do it, why not go ahead and make a video to show everyone how to get it done? It would be great to get the information out there.

    • @CaseTheCorvetteMan
      @CaseTheCorvetteMan Год назад

      @@Chris-Courage why do i want to make a video? I'm too old to stuff around with that.
      It's a DIP chip BIOS, it is very easy, use a solder sucker and desolder the chip, solder in a socket, and whack the chip in it. It is not like doing it on a top loader where the chip is a surface mount and you need a special adaptor to write the chip and a hot air rework station to solder it in. Even that is easy to do, assuming you know what you're doing, and you're making videos, so you should have some skill.
      You don't need a video for it on a top loader, no one does. Google it. It is exactly the same as an AES.

      Unibios is not compatible with a SD loader. Maybe he planned to install one later.

    where do you buy the belt?

    • @Chris-Courage
      @Chris-Courage  7 месяцев назад

      There are many belts that could be used. However the easiest thing to search and find that works good is Xbox 360 drive belts.

    Hi Chris! Just got your name from Bithead1000's Christmas special show... Want to know if you be interested in repairing a Original fat Playstation 3? I just don't have the time, and have seen a few of your videos... You're very thorough, give me a reply if we can arrange

    Couldn't a unibios have done the same trick?

    • @Chris-Courage
      @Chris-Courage  3 года назад

      You are correct. Although a uni bios is extremely more difficult to install with greater risk of damaging the system for anyone not experienced with soldering. Installing a simple switch like this is something even a novice at soldering can do.
