Jimny Takes on Fire Truck Hill (Lithgow)

- For our first TrackReport, I take the Jimny out to Fire Truck Hill at Lithgow
This is a good hard 4wd track found in Lisdale State Forest, and it really pushed the Jimny.
Coordinates for the start of this track:
33°29'0.17"S
150°4'8.30"E
Recommended mods for your Jimny:
2" suspension lift
Upgraded tyres
Winch
Diff Locks do make it easier however are not necessary.

The little Jimny, for what it is, punches way above it weight. Capable, reasonable priced, versatile and easy on the eyes.
You’re not wrong there... Most fun I’ve had in any 4wd that I’ve owned.

I’m jealous, I’ve got the Mavic Air 1 and I love it. The Air 2 looks like it’s a massive step up.

Good video. Your video proved the Jimny without lockers is pretty much useless.
Cheers, I think without lockers you need much more momentum to do the off camber stuff.

Shows what a Jimny is capable of with a few modifications, the most important being the front and rear locking diffs, better traction and it makes it easier on the transmission and drivetrain, electronic traction control allows snatching which isn't good, a lower low range transfer gear ratio would also make a big difference if it was available like the 6.5:1 for the SJ 413.
You’re 100% right. They’re amazing vehicles. The biggest drawback I’ve found off road is the gearing. A set of reduction gears like you said would make it almost unstoppable.

Hey mate, great video. Have you found the bigger tyres have made highway rpm a bit more reasonable? Ive heard they do something like 3000 rpm at a 100km/h stock.
Absolutely, they drop the revs and also make the speedo more accurate. I find when the speedo reads 100km/h, the GPS reads 98-99km/h.
That being said there is a small power drop, I didn't really notice, as the Jimny isn't exactly fast in the first place. Cheers
Just found you channel and I Love it. Hope you can fix the sound up a bit is its a little too soft. Surprised you didn't do a video on Pajero hill. Love that area of mount walker!
Thanks. I’m slowly adding cameras and microphones to try and get a more polished finished product... once the lockdown has lifted I do plan on going back to tackle mount walker
@@BillyGoatJim sweet as, my patrol is pretty capable but I don't think it would make it up mt walker track without 5 hours of winching 😅. I have a vid of my last trip to mt walker with some footage up Pajero hill track.ruclips.net/video/ulVQM7ch3K0/видео.html I'm Also thinking of using some proper gear and editing software after the lock down and having a real go without just phone footage.

You ask us to offer up a trail we’d like to see you and the Jimmy tackle. Try CutRock Rd, Watagan State Forest. Bloody tight fit for a LandCruiser but a Jimmy should have room to spare. :)

Supposedly Jimny has a very good traction control system, also it has live axle suspension which further aids in traction. Does it still need diff locks.
Also how is the high speed stability on-road.

Gday, the traction control is ok but does not stack up against a complete locked diff. They are a hugely capable vehicle stock, it all depends how you drive and where you take it. For me I like to drive slower and more controlled and the lockers are a huge help as you don’t need the momentum you would need without them.
The Jimny is not exactly a sports car but once you’re at speed, I find it is very stable, especially once the suspension is swapped out for the aftermarket versions.

Good Day Bro! Which Jimny do you have AT or MT? In your honest opinion what is more beneficial in overlanding?
I have the MT. AT gives you a lot of control as you don’t need to ride the clutch when you are going slow, however I wasn’t sold on a 4 speed auto on such an under powered vehicle.
If the jimny had a bit more power and a strong 5 speed auto I would have gone for that.
In saying this a lot of people are very happy with their autos.

What size tyres are you running and wheels? Does it have a lift
Cheers. I’m running 235/75r15 tyres on 16x7” rims, it’s also got a 40mm Old Man Emu lift.

Gday, the tyres are 235x75 r15 BFG KO2s. Wheels are 15x7 king steel rims with zero offset.

@@BillyGoatJim Im running safari snorkel on my 04 jimny cyclonic air filter rather happy with it. Lockers on my list though kinda waiting and dreaming that they will make a harrop locker.
I’ve been waiting for safari to release a snorkel for this model. Fingers crossed it comes out soon

Wich one spare part are these Diff Lock (and brand) for the Jimny GJ 2019???
The lockers are an ARB Airlocker. The part numbers are - FR22SPL & 26SPL
@@BillyGoatJim Really thk. I from PANAMA, and seriusly i want this parts, but when i was looking for it the ARB site "www.arb.com.au/site/wp-content/uploads/pricelists/ARBRetailPriceList.pdf" could not find for the Jimny GJ 2019 model.
But now that i know wich spare parts and your video, i can try to contac with the distribuitor on my country for the adquisition [after i save some money :)].
