Thought this was a Mark of the Wolves anime at first and the guy at the beginning of the trailer looked like Terry. Thought we were gonna see some Terry and Rock Howard stories at first.

Yes, both of them are based on the same novels written by another author
Just watched few clips and it really is the same Garouden manga from Itagaki...maybe they change the artsyle to distinguish it from already existing and popular Baki series

What happened to Tanba? Or is this a completely different series?
It seems it will focus on fujimaki jyuzo and his rivalry with himekawa. They might show tanba and connect him with the wrestlers in a following season,
(spoiler for the manga)
and then probably a third season for wrestlers and everybody to fight in the tournament with the final being himekawa against Nagata and then jyuzo (as an invader)

I honestly don't understand the interest in this. Because like. This dude kills ONE thief who broke into his employers house and attacked him with a knife and he just.. doesn't claim self defense? He just goes into hiding and escalates himself through an underground fight/death club?
Seems a lot of trouble and no real good reason
In the book mind you it was written in the 80s, has fujimaki kill the attacker because he "graped" his master's daughter. He runs away to save her honor because if it was reported everyone would know her honor was defiled
Also the whole underground thing is not part of the book, infact the protagonists is not fujimaki jyozo but businichi tanba
