Many thanks for an excellent review, which brings back memories of my wife's 1988 9000S, a non turbo 16v. It took us to Europe , as well as all over the UK, in comfort with no limits on the luggage we could take. It did 40 mpg, and was a fantastically reliable work horse. We took it to 170000 miles over about 9 years. It felt so solid and dependable, more so than later Saabs we owned.
These were known for being quite dependable back in the day, weren't they? Thank you ever so much indeed for sharing your memories, I was privileged to have been able to have a go in this.
I absolutely love the original Saab 9000s. My very first car was my dad’s 1996 Saab 900 S. This is by far my favorite Saab ever made! My old Saab was an automatic. However I actually was lucky enough to drive a 1992 Saab 9000 turbo with the 5 speed manual transmission and it really brought back so many wonderful memories from the past. Not only that it was the same scarab green color as my old shop was. I really wish they still made these cars. They were fantastic.
Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting! Glad you enjoyed this video. They are rather special cars, from a completely different era of motoring.
A genuine classic and very rare in Carlsson trim. Comfort, luxury, space and power. Superb Ergonomics was the way that Car Magazine described every SAAB back in the day. A go to for a 400 to 500 miles trip. Please try to sample a CDE Saloon model Sir because you will be blown away by a superb luxury limousine that nobody has heard of.
I bought a used 1993 CD 2.3 NA, it was 2nd facelift, the CS face was 3rd facelift. Carlson in this video is first original face. They are all very nice car for secondhand price, great value. It was one of few cars from the late 80s that somehow has qualities and tech almost as good as late 90s car.
It needs a bit of finishing off, I think, but yes, the owner has had it for ages, and the modifications are quite light. It was a real privilege to drive this incredibly rare Saab.
song or EP link to Laurence Callaghan and the Tin Cans is not in the description mate, A Song for Humans seems like a swelll song but i cannot find it online how can i pay for the EP or song?
Hello LIoyd - great review. One doesn't see many of these on the 9000 model in its various forms these days. One thing I did notice in your review is that the seats in the Carlsson you tested are from a later 9000 AERO, which was built to 1996/98. These later 9000 Aeros also put out greater hp than the earlier Carlsson and had the superb leather Recaro seats (as mentioned) only found in these last of the line 9000 Aeros (that you sat in, in the Carlsson) before GM ruined the famous SAAB mark. You will find there is a bit of a bias with SAAB enthusiasts re post GM take over after 1998 etc. I'm a bit biassed, I have the last of the line 9000 Aero, 5-speed Aero manual in mint condition. All the very best.
It's Joseph, but not to worry! Yes, this car needs finishing off, and I am not surprised that the seats are non-standard. I did mention the later 9000 Aero later on in the video as far as I remember. I would like to try a later 9000, actually...
8:26 Later version of 9000 all have the same dash, just more wood trim options and digital clock and climate control, although many people choose analog options to save cost. If you are able to find one with analog, get those, they are much more reliable than digital system.
I was after a standard one for review rather than this Carlsson, but since they are so rare, I couldn't really say no. Thank you ever so much indeed for watching and commenting!

a few years back i restored my 9000 2.3 carlsson ive owned for 22 years she looks like new now and lovely to drive
These Carlssons are extremely interesting and rare cars. Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting!
Absolutely beautiful, honest and very original looking machine.
Yes, been with the owner for years, and in very original condition with few modifications.
Hello Buddy , I think its about time you got yourself a Saab .
As a Volvo Owners' Club member, sir, that may be a little bit difficult....
Another excellent review Sir, i think I need to add a Saab to cars I need to own at some point.
It was a real privilege to have been offered this for review, sir! Thank you ever so much indeed for watching and commenting once again, Mr Watters.

Sir, as you know, it is going to depend on whether or not someone offers me one, but I would like a nice 9000 CD to sample at some stage.
Lovely car!

Yes, we covered the facelifts in the video. It is an incredibly confusing situation, I don't know why Saab did it in this way....
Now we are talking. Wanted one of these as well.
I didn't hesitate at all when the owner got in touch. An incredibly rare car these days.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting yes. You are a very lucky man with a very good job to get to drive all of these wonderful cars
@@enchantress7940 , I love being able to do these reviews!
Love it! So Original

Would love to get my hands on that and make it factory fresh again.@@lloydvehicleconsulting
@@rdsreference, I don't think that the owner wants to sell it, sir, sadly...

@@rdsreference , now you understand one of the biggest problems I tend to have when making these videos, sir, I want to keep the cars for myself!
Thanks for saying 204 bhp. 220 - which nearly everyone quotes - was the CD
Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting!
Nice 900
Glad you enjoyed this 9000!
Strathclyde traffic devision had two unmarked saab 9000 carlsons in the mid to later 80 on the m8 many a time speeders got a shock how quick they were
Yes, I imagine that must have been interesting for the officers! Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting.
Hello Sir, Did the owner move the ignition lock to the steering column from the centre console ?
No sir, they were all like that.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I always thought Saab had them in the centre console ? maybe just not these then ?
Not for the 9000, sir.
@@JustinGeorge-x9q statrted with the 1969 99. The 96 had it on the column - but that also had a column gearchange.
Sounds about right to me! The 9000 was completely different due to the shared development with Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia.

The problem has been fixed, have a look in the video description... Glad you enjoyed it!
What is A series engine on a 1994 9000 Griffin?
There is no such thing as an A-Series engine on a 9000.

Been liking these more an more lately in this spec, but are you sure they can be had for under £5000?
Probably not a Carlsson, but a lower specification one can be had for under £5,000, I would have imagined.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting As much as I like them, I wouldn't be paying £50,000 in any case
Oh wait...
@@benhooper1956 , well done, sir!
Another fantastic review, Mr Lloyd, these were incredible cars. Was the wood trim an opinion, or was it removed.
Not sure about the wood trim, sir. Would have been available on some other trim levels, I am sure...
@lloydvehicleconsulting
It was available on the Carlsson. I've seen it. Perhaps it was like a final year thing before the new model.
Thank you, sir!
Rare model
Exactly, that is why I was ever so excited to try it.
