I played one on a whim at a music store one afternoon while killing time. This ended up being one of the best playing, best sounding basses I ever laid my hands on! I picked one up used about a year and a half later in like new condition and I think it’s my fav! It’s an awesome instrument!
Another great review! I like that you include the B string thoroughly in the review. I’ve seen other videos where they never even play it. I love the B string and want to hear it in the demo. Kudos to you.
They are very nice basses I actually have a TRB 10006 that I bought new and it is very nice and it is very versatile I like it and I keep it in my rotation of basses but they are not made in Korea they are made in Indonesia
I bought one 2 years ago for my wife but she loves her Honner B2 5 strings well is mine now is a beautiful bass Yamaha don’t make as good now only drawback is only active
Here was a lot of assumptions. This bass has Quilted maple top, Not "Spalted maple". Has single coils pickups w/ dummy coils, not "humbuckers". Weight: 10 ponds, not "9"

Definitely a sleeper.

Thanks Dex!
Another Very good Review . Can't wait to see what you review next
I may "Jazz" things up.
Yamaha build quality is always excelling
Neat review, thankyou. I just ordered one 2nd hand off that well known 2nd hand website.
I have the 6 string model. Very bright and aggressive. Comfortable to play in my opinion.
Thanks for the review - possibly getting one for $400 tomorrow that needs new strings and a good setup/cleaning.
Sounds like a good deal.
*still in production*
or at least the "TRB1005J"
Great vídeo! How much would a used fretless version in good shape be worth nowadays! Have any idea?
Thanks! That's hard to say as I haven't seen too many of the fretless. I would guess between $700-900 USD would be the price.
@@KPJohnson thanks so much for your expertise!
Have you tried it on distortion? I'm thinking of buying this bass for metal/ rock bass.
I have one in the red color with flats on mine as well.

My TRB 1005 was made in Korea. I still have it. They were just better than these Indonesian ones.
Compare with Japan model (5II or 5I)
Nice Review
hey - is there such a thing as a transacoustic nylon-stringed bass?
Was considering this bass. Lovely tone but not my taste. The 35’ scale was tempting.
TRB stands for "Totally Radical Bass"
No lies detected.
“The Right Bass”

TRB - Tone Rich Bass (My interpretation)
As good as any other.
I'm pretty sure the pups are single coil.
It is single coil, coupled with a ‘ghost’ single coil, which technically it makes it a hum-bucking pick-up.
These old EQs on these Korean made TRBs might be different. These Indonesian made ones now are just not the same.
