    30 years ago I ran into Mr futch at la puente hills mall shopping center.he couldn't find his car and we helped him find it.it was a few days before the Holmes vs spinks encounter.mr futch refused to say who he thought would win.since he trained them both he stepd away for this fight.i must say he was very polite and cordial. Glad to know that he had a good name in the boxing community .rest in peace Mr futch keep on punching. If I catch up to you I'll let ya in on what's been happening in the square circle.hope your hanging out with smoking Joe and the rest of your boys that you laced up.

      no disrespect to cus but Futch is in a different league of trainer, id say Ray Arcel, Charlie Goldman, Jack Blackburn and Eddie Futch among others are that GOAT tier

    He tutored Freddie, Emmanuel Steward among others. He was a classic act. They all went on to great coaching/training careers...He repaired many fighters and gave them game plans....Most of Ali's losses were almost single handedly by Eddie behind the scenes.

    Do you know of any Eddie Futch biographies out there? I know he has a chapter in Corner Men by R.Fried, but I haven't found any other. By all accounts he had an incredible boxing IQ.

    I was in Ali's Deer Lake Camp. I thought Andelo was a nice man and a very good trainer; however, training Ali doesn't make you the best trainer. ALI---himself---is the BEST BOXER---no matter WHO would have trained him. Angelo used to say, "Ali goes out there and does what HE wants to---no matter what he is told. Most "boxing" experts consider Eddie Futch the best trainer. I knew both men. I feel honored to have known the best of the best.

    Even the boxing trainers---THEMSELVES---say Eddie Futch was the best trainer! From where are you getting your information? I'm not trying to be rude, however. I'm been in boxing camp with Eddie Futch, Freddie Roach (whom Futch taught), and Ali's camp with Angelo.

    A corner that would never again be the same. We need another Eddie futch strategies again like Ali first lost.. 😄need to come at the hands of smoky Joe Frazier. Back Ali into the ropes and work the body. Follow Ali right upper cuts with left hooks. Then you get a win.💪 #possible 🎵 #debatefight

    He should have let Joe Frazier fight the 15rd in the IIIrd Ali fight...Joe couldn't see do to swelling but was eager to get up and fight on the 15th round, Ali was really tired and had no desire to continue..but the Ref heard Eddie stop the fight for Joe and that really fucked Joe up in the head...just gave Ali the TKO win as if He made Frazier quit and the clearly want the case.

    • @thehighground_
      @thehighground_ 7 лет назад +9

      Well the thing about that was Futch had seen a number of other fighters die from unnecessary damage taken in fights and he refused to let that happen to Frazier. Another thing which was mentioned in the Thrilla in Manila documentary was that prior to making his professional debut Frazier sustained an eye injury and was partially blind in one eye that combined with the swelling on Frazier's other eye had a nearly blind man.
      When you're in the corner and you have your 60 seconds to prepare for the next round you don't have time to think the opponent is going to give up certainly not when it's Muhammad Ali. Eddie Futch made the decision to protect his fighter and friend from any further damage and said in an interview he would've done the same thing again without hesitation.
