Hi! I've L46 and L134, all doing really well! I wonder what your water chemistry is! My ph is 6.5, high GH low kh, temp 82. They young, but show sighs of mating! What foods do u feed them?
@@terrystratford1235 i keep and breed mine in tap water! TDS is about 180ppm PH 7.4- 7.5
I feed a verity of high quality foods and have many videos on what i feed please feel free to check them out! a lot of meaty high protein food :) love the 134's im gettin a group a sap!
@@AquaMalik I will certainly watch ur vids on this! I fell in love with the zebra, but the cost, £130 each! 1 inch long! I have 4! In it for the long haul! I breed bristle nose and guppy with no trouble, want to try zebra! So much info! Thankyou and Goodluck with future endeavors!
Terry, thanks mate same to you ! it’s a bit of a wait but they are really easy .. pretty much expensive bn Plecos nothing different lol you got this mate ! also prices are same here in Canada too .. cheers
@@AquaMalik hi Malik! It's amazing so many breeders, all doing it differently! How do u get tds to 180? Is ur water soft? Ur the 1st to say a ph of 7-7.5! All other info is a ph of 6.2-7.2! I've mine in a quiet room, but I sat and watched! Only 5mins they came out for food! Great to watch them! Your setup has a great look!
Very good video with lots of good info. I bought 10 1"-1.25" L46 Zebras for $1000 three years ago, put them in a low profile 60g frag tank.At 84° half RO/half TAP. Luckily i didn't lose any. Thought they would never spawn, but then BOOM I've had about 10-12 spawnings in the last 3 months. About 1 a week. Each females can lay eggs about every 2 week with a different male.Currently have about 60 fry that I've moved to a 33 long growout and about 20 more that are to small to move yet. They breed super easy all on their own and I just move the fry when I'm sure I won't crush them. I do bare bottom so the fry don't get buried by sand. If you have the money and the patience to wait 3 years its well worth the wait. Just recommend getting the largest group you can. If you have to wait 3 years you don't want to get to the end of the rainbow and not have enough to guarantee you will have a viable group of males and females. If you're successful please make sure to sell large growout groups for a discount or give them to qualified experienced fishkeepers. I currently have about 8 fish club members wanting groups and most dont have the money for them, but its whats best for the species. Its not all about the money.
Jon thats amazing and congratulations! all my fry will be going to good reputable keepers and breeders as well to potentially be bred in future! thanks for sharing mate! cheers!
I just re-watched all the videos in the zebra breeding series. Well done my friend. This is by far the most extensive collection of videos on this topic available.
My pleasure bud 🍻
Malik keeping it real with the advice! Thanks for saying what we are all thinking 💕
Really good video, it was very interesting to see another perspective from another l 46 breeder
thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it! cheers!
Love this video, I watch it over n over. I love your outfit for this one I see you got all spoofed up 😉
haha thank you .. glad you liked it!!
great infomation brother totally agree if your going keep them should be breeding them
Most definitely! cheers!
Thanks Malik! I’m thinking of adding sand to my L046 tank, now I’m definitely doing it! I also got a group of 5 x 2.5 inch discus that I had to put in with them. The zebras are really fattening up since doing this! Of course I feed small amounts 5X a day as a result. Also 90% wc every 2 days... the zebras seem to love it
LeahhJett amazing I’m looking forward for updates soon 🙏 cheers
90% wc is a massive amount! I've been told not to do this! 10-20% every day when spawning! But, if it works for you!
Informative
thanks mate! cheers!
Good information given, can’t wait for part 3! Where do you order your EBO and Dr. Bassleer food from?
Thanks Cole, I Get my EBO and Dr Basleers foods from www.aquaristikshop.com/ ! Gold Coast aqautics also Carries EBO they are great and in the US! also angelfins.ca can order some of the stuff in for you from Europe as well! also great company!
Awesome video Malik. God bless 👍🏽
Thank you so much aka Genie 💯 God Bless! 🙏
I'm Korean so english not well
It is a good video But there are more reasons why zebra pleco doesn't breed, besides what's in your video.
1 It is better to grow in pairs or trios.
2 It is good to grow in a single tank (without other fish species)
3 Do not go to the tank frequently
I grow in pairs in a single tank(without other fish)and spawn every 30-35 days (almost every month)
great thanks for the feedback! cheers!
How do you pair them? This is the problem; they are very difficult to sex that it's difficult to split them into pairs like Cichlids which are easy to sex.
I just recently recieved 5 juveniles plecos, I just purchased a pleco-condo cave. I hope for some spawns in the upcoming years.
Amazing congratulations ! Keep me posted as they get to spawning ! Cheers mate!
Awesome video I keep looking into this info
I’ve got a trio 2M and 1F 46 and they breeding great
I’ve been finding this is quite a successful way to spawn them as well. Will be talking more about it upcoming videos . Thanks for sharing mate! Cheers
Great video Malik
Appreciate it! cheers!
Whats a good place to buy 40 gallon breeders from online? Most of the ones I see are $180 barebones over here in Alberta. I am just thinking that is way over priced for a fish tank of that size. Thanks.
Great vids thanks,,,, what ratio male to female do you have in your breeding zebra pleco aquarium.
usally i like to keep about three to four males and the rest females or sub adults ! doesn't always work out exactly but that's what i try to go for!
Hey Malik are you able to tell the difference between a male and a female?
Can you keep leopard frogs and zebras in same tank?
Hey Malik just wondering if you sell any of the L46 pleco’s
Could you please tell me what the temperature of your l46 tanks are at
Thamks
I keep my zeb tanks at 82F to 84F usually
Hello if you could have should I use air pump or circulation water pump ? Or both ? Thank you so much
a strong air pump is sufficient for the fish, but water current from a water pump like a power head is good to simulate a natural river current ! cheers!
I noticed my tank without L46 has millions of trumpet snails! But after a few mths of owning L46 the tank there in I was left with only large trumpet snails! I didn't feed them one ngt, and I noticed one that was going at something! It was a snail!!!!! So I sived alot of snails from my bristlenose tank and put them in L46 tank! I now have tiny babies in there and the zebra definitely eat them! So now I feed the snails!!!!! Local shop has 2 tiny zebra in quarantine, but I only want female! How can I tell which is which?
its literally impossible except by behavior .. also sometimes you can tell the males at about 1.5' or larger will have classic male characteristics but its still an educated guess! I ll try to cover these in the upcoming videos!
I am having L46 plecos in a bare bottom tank.is sand a must for L46 plecos ? Thanks Malik
sand is not a must but highly recommended for them!
Hey Malik, May I know what Corydoras you keep with your zebras? And how warm is your water?
Hey Yi, I keep cw049 currently with my zebras and its 82.5F to 83F .. its not ideal for most corydoras so I suggest picking a species that can handle the temp long term! you can also try panda corydoras and sterbi Ive seen both in zebra tanks! whatever you choose just quarantine really well in a separate tank and only add when you are satisfied that the corydoras are completely disease free! cheers!
Malik's Water Garden I see, thanks Malik!
Could i keep 8 l333 in a 20 long? what do you think?
I think a bigger footprint is always better - 20 long should work but as the fish mature into breeding age u might have to upgrade to something a bit larger 🙏
@@AquaMalik Thank you for your first answer, how about a 30 or a 40G
Are you from india?
Canada! Cheers!
I won't be able to afford a group of Zebra Plecos!
you will soon!
@@AquaMalik I'm really disabled and been house bound for over 10 years. During my life I've been a qualified Stone Mason that was scuppered by my health. 20 years ago I got my 1st class degree but no one will hire as I would be a fire hazard because I would depend on someone to get me out! Now knocking on 60. So I very much doubt it, don't get me wrong I would a proven pair they would give me a reason to get up everyday. But I love to watch other breeder's succeed and see how it's done professionally. I can always dream eh LOL. I've been looking at the many Black & White varieties but they float my boat as Zebras do.
I'm subscribed to your channel so I've already been looking forward to watching you keep this rare and beautiful animal from going extinct... Knowing all that what isn't there to enjoy. 👍😷👍TAKE CARE MY FRIEND 👍😷👍
One day when I am more experienced I want a group of these 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍
