@@PPGandRRBfan Yep, I've since gone ahead and bought the watch, as the post suggests. Sleep cycles are completely nonsensical, but the heart rate is somewhat accurate (not 100, but think in the 70th percentile range, since it also sometimes looks to scan even if not worn). You can configure the device for continuous scanning. The app is needed to view the heart rate, you can play music or control your synced Android phone. You can also change faces / screens for the watch. I recently also changed the strap, it is light and basically, for me at least, does Ok - I am only after constant heart monitoring for my aged next of kin. I have done some testing myself too, I have, on multiple instances, taken heart rate measurement from the Fit2 app, and then compared with an Omron Blood Pressure device and also a separate blood O2 measuring device, the findings correlate, meaning the measurement averages are reliable for heart rate monitoring. Note - only for heart rate monitoring (I work on averages normally). But do note, blood O2, sleep monitoring and exercise monitoring all FAIL - they are just BAD. I have seen instances where subject walked about 3-5km and the device was not able to know if 10000 steps was complete. Maybe these 'features' were there to fill up the form to call the device a 'smart' watch. So, heart rate monitor was what I was after, it does that well. Other than that tells time. Hope this experience is helpful to you! All the best!
For the past week or so I've really been on the edge about buying this watch. The specs and quality-price ratio seem great, but as an owner of a Xiaomi Pocophone, I'm not sure whether this device is worth the hustle of having to download a third party appstore. Having to put a little extra effort to install it doesn't bother me, but I have read many comments from people who have been doing this and are complaining about their phone getting inaccurate info about their steps count/heart rate etc, as well as the watch constantly disconnecting from their phone. After weeks of research I still haven't been able to find a better option for this price, but I'm not sure whether this whole Huawei/Xiaomi thing will work out for a tolerable user experience...
Exellent job, Rob! Your testings show that it's obviously possible to get very accurate HR readings from just 2 sensors. It's amazing that the Fit 2 outperforms the GT3, which has a sensor array of 8 and which I was almost going to buy. Waiting for a truly professional review often pays off. I was looking for a new tracker because I sadly had to return the mi band 7, because I was unable to get even remotely correct readings on my crosstrainer, where the mi band 6 did a much better job than the 7, very much alike to your own stats. So the Fit 2 is now candidate #1. Just why is the SPO2 tracking worse than that of the Huawei band 6?
Dude, have I got a story for you. I recently bought one of Huawei's new "GT 3 SE" models, which are advertised as having the same "TruSeen 5.0+" sensor tech as the top performing GT 3 Pro's, so even though this gentleman hasn't gotten a chance to test the GT 3 SE yet, I assumed it would perform equally well. (I was wrong) The watch arrived and I was having a good time with it. The heart tracking on it was worlds better than my old Fitbit Sense (ugh!), so I felt happy. But then I looked closer, and saw that the "GT 3" and "GT Runner" on his chart also have "TruSeen 5.0+" sensor tech, but performed worse than the GT 3 Pro and Fit 2! This made me paranoid about my new GT 3 SE, so I ordered a Fit 2 (which we already know is awesome) and put a watch on each wrist, and compared the two during exercise. I suspected I was being neurotic and crazy for doing this, but I needed to be 100% sure. I first tried out some sprinting. The GT 3 SE's heart rate reading seemed to lag or hang during quick and sudden heart rate increases. It would just hang there on 116 bpm, seemingly doing nothing, and then it would suddenly correct itself, and shoot up instantly to (the correct) 165. The Fit 2 during this same time would rise more steadily and gradually. "116, 132, 151, 165" Then I did some pushups to really put them to the test. The difference between the Fit 2 and GT 3 SE was even more pronounced here. I was getting 4-5 heart rate updates on my Fit 2 for every one update on my GT 3 SE. I even swapped wrists to make sure that wasn't the factor. No difference. Again, the GT 3 SE kept lagging and hanging while it struggled to get readings compared to the faster and more adept Fit 2. It seems like the GT 3 SE either updates its heart rate reading at a lower rate/resolution to save CPU/battery, or it is somehow much worse at filtering out movement and "noise" during workouts compared to the GT 3 Pro and Fit 2, despite having an allegedly equivalent or superior sensor. I kept the Fit 2 and returned the GT 3 SE. So just goes to show you, "TruSeen 5.0+" is just marketing, and doesn't actually mean anything, especially when the Fit 2 with its piddly little 2 sensors ( ! ) can beat the pants off it.
@@synthrequests5880 Thanks for the info. If the GT3 SE is that new there is still hope that the next SW update could fix the problems. But nobody knows if and when this will be happening.
@@yodanvranx809 I wouldn't hold out hope. the GT3 (non-pro) has the same sensor and heart tracking issues and has been out for a good while, so if they would've found a way to fix it via a simple software update, I feel they would've already corrected both the GT3 and GT 3 SE by now. My advice is to definitely pull the trigger on the Fit 2. the only features it's lacking compared to the GT 3 SE (to my knowledge) is the altimeter/barometer. all the other features it has, and it even has pre and post run warmup and stretch exercises that the GT 3 SE doesn't have. not to mention the aesthetics of the Fit 2 are much better imo, looks more sleek and modern, actually has a metal casing, while the GT 3 SE looked and felt very cheap and plasticky.
I hope other brands join Apple and Huawei in heart rate measurement. Huawei still needs to figure out sleep tracking. I am using Wellue O2Ring that's supplied to you by the firm. I think it has a reliable SpO2 measurement. I tried it on a few flights and it was able to register low SpO2 values smoothly during the whole flight. I wish Wellue developed the app a little more. It could show the pleth signal. And also perfusion index as a graph.
I was waiting for this review, honestly you are the only reviewer that I trust in terms of getting accurate scientific results. Thank you very much, I ordered a Huawei watch fit 2 and waiting to test it myself :-)
First of all I d like to congrat you for being unbiased. I have the following smart watches 1)Mi Watch 2)Mi band 7 3)Watch fit new 4)Watch fit 2 Your findings are exactly like what I am experiensing with my watches. The "Watch fit 2" is the latest one I bought and I am surprised with the HR accuracy and the step counting but the sleep tracking is a joke. I really hope a following update will fix this ...because the "Watch fit new" could detect the sleep and awake stages very nicely ( it was just adding some more deep sleep) STAY UNBIASED
@@Grutchies The HR accuracy I had with these 2 watches was very similar. Both amazing. Go to a store a try them on your hand to see which one fits you best... If you have a normal or small wrist then you should go for the watch fit new. If you have a huge wrist , then go for the watch fit 2. The watch fit new had a lot better sleep accuracy when I tested them( some months ago). The reason I gave both of these watches is because the SENSOR on both watches is huge and pointy and it digs on your skin and tissues and if you want to have correct measurements by wearing it tight enough.... then it is impossible because you ll end up with a nerve damage or something. Thats why I am telling you.... go and try them. Keep in mind that the Huawei band 6 has the same accuracy in the HR and sleep as the watch fit new.In fact its the same algorithms but on different designs watches. And the good thing about it is that the sensor is completely FLAT and you can wear it 24/7. This was my choice in the end. I hope I helped.
@@clementinakozma both of them have great hr accuracy. The band 7 is super easy on the wrist. The watch fit 2 has a bulky and pointy sensor and its hard on the wrist.
correct me if I'm wrong the heart tracking I hope should be the same as fit 2 both have TruSeen 5.0 I gather the SE version has Trusleep 3.0 vs 2.0 on the fit 2 I myself am wanting one!!
Watch Fit 2 user here for almost a year now: The watch is definitely 100% worth for its price, but there are some issues, so that you can manage your expectations: - The heart tracking would sometimes work EXTREMELY well, accurately reading even up to very high BPM like 190ish. However, sometimes it would randomly be completely awful. For an exercise that I would expect my HR to be above 140, it would randomly read 110, 120. Even sometimes it would go complete nuts and read under 100, when my breath and sweat strongly disagree - The continuous HR reading is complete garbage. I turned it off because it was just unnecessarily draining my battery without providing anything useful. Running to the third floor upstairs? Here's your resting heart rate of 70. It's better to have the manual measuring - The SPO is also practically useless. Completely random. Many measurements towards the 98-99, when an actual pulse Oximeter would read 91-95
I'm really interested to see a review on the Huawei Watch D. Huawei seem to do so well on tracking other metrics, it will be interesting to see if they're the first to do blood pressure measurements any justice. PS Love the work on this channel! I don't look at any other "reviews" of smart watches because I honestly don't care how shiny or matte the face is - I can look at pictures for appearance info but this is the only channel that tells me whether the measurement features are any good.
Been waiting for this one from the moment it was announced. Didn't get the GT3 until your review was out. Was waiting for your review of the fit2 before my gf gets it. Thanks for the detailed research and review as always! 💪 🙌💯
I have 1 question. 1) How is it possible for different smartwatches of the same brand(Example : Huawei Band 7 / watch fit/watch fit 2) to have different accuracy in heart rate and sleep detection , when they share the same sensors and algorithms?
Great review. You are one of the few smartwatch reviews that we can trust. Wonder if you can include some way to check smartwatch that track stress. I guess the more reliable heart rate the more accurate the stress level record.
I bought this today (146 USD, bought in Sweden for 1490 kr), for use for my weightlifting/gym/general training and general walking etc. As far as feel, 10/10. Easy to use OS 10/10 Colors, brightness and reactivity from the touch of your finger 10/10. Seriously. Measuring my heartbeat, calories, distance walked, gps etc is awesome so far. I compared and it is very accurate. Feels premium and am really happy I saw your video and decided for this one. Was looking at all other watches. I haven't tested the sleep feature, but everything else + more that i didnt even know existed, works really great. I could easily change themes on the watch as well, so thats a plus! It syns perfectly with my Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Really recommend it.
thanks for the thorough reviews. I watched several of your recent scientific reviews of smart bands / watches and they're all very useful, as I'm trying to choose which band to buy at a reasonable price, with emphasis on heart rate accuracy. so far the Watch Fit 2 really is the best choice. I was wondering where on the heart rate test graph at 13:24 would you have the Watch GT2e and GT3 you already reviewed? also, was wondering if you're going to review the Mi Band 7 Pro which sells very cheap and includes a GPS module
Thank you for your hard work doing these videos. I bought my Huawei Band 6 after I watched your review last year (I have a Huawei P30 pro phone) and it has been great as a fitness tracker. After your video review on Huawei Watch GT Runner I decided to replace my Band 6 so I got a GT Runner instead. If I had waited for this video review and bought a Watch Fit 2, I would have saved about 50 Euro, and gotten a watch that is just as good. But I like the look of the GT Runner more 😊
You are AMAZING buddy. These are the best reviews I’ve ever seen any anything. I don’t know how you do this but wow. Thank you so so much. You will be my go to man now for reviews. Absolutely awesome 👏🏻👏🏻
This watch fit 2 is so powerful now, it can add external sensor such as chest strap, cadence, power meter, I already tried with my magene heart rate strap and cadence, and it doing well, the gpx route also works well, this is the cheapest sports with capability like other expensive brand.
I had a fitbit charge 5 and liked it but heart rate monitoring during weight lifting was awful. So, after watching a few of your videos I bought a Huawei GT3 42 mm. However, I found that even worse. For instance, after 12 pullups it kept reading my heartrate as lower than sitting in a chair chilling out . No an isolated incident. Walking & weight training it was way under compared to me counting my pulse and when running it was way over. So I returned it. I wonder if their is a lot of variation in optical hrm accuracy depending on the person?
The video I have been waiting for two months 😃 thanks man I already own the watch and I love it. The sleeping and oxygen measuring its not very important you mostly buy it for sports and heart rating which are the best parts of the watch. The price now is 95 euros in Greece I totally recommend the watch 👌 thanks for the video again mate 🙏
None is 100% accurate for measuring sleep phases, nor do I think knowing sleep phases is of any use considering that it is a watch and not a device specifically created to measure sleep.
@@aybmnn yes, if you're just looking for the accuracy of awaking and sleeping time then Huawei can do it well, it just struggles with sleep stages only
I'm amazed by this. The sensor seems to be the same one used in old huawei watchers and yet the results are much better. Makes me wonder on how much software is missing in some gadgets.
@@thedarkness3080 yes, I noticed his comment on that. What I meant was that it looks similar to my old gt (in design). The gt 3 sensor seems more robust.
Is there a possibility in Watch Fit 2 to set alert when heart rate reaches certain level? This would be very useful for pacing purposes when recovering from me/cfs.
Returning with a general comment to this device. The Huawei Watch Fit 2 is not only an update, it is an entire new device. Most prominent is the bigger, sharper and more clearer screen, and everything works smoother and more refined. It is also about 40 % higher priced. The hardware is very good, IMO. Buy a screen protector, as it's plastic. To my opinion the Huawei software is not the best. The presentation of the screens is not done well. For example for the SPO2 a line graph would be easier to read and make trends more visible. Also, you can't really see easily what time was your peak heart-rate, low SPO2 , etc, unless you move that tiny dot over to that exact time, which is not easy. It has a lot of separate screens pages, which could be combined. However, no misunderstanding, for the price it's good and I believe one can live with these obscurities.
It seems to me an excellent device, sleep tracking will not be perfect but I don't think knowing the sleep phases will help you either. It costs $150 or less, I think it's a better buy than apple watch 7 which costs $350... Battery lasts 1 week or more, and you can use with Android/iOS
@@francobellomo9979 what a stupid respons . He only gives his own personal opinion. Just like you but you make it personal. If there is one fool here its you..
I bought this watch in good faith that it would support HR broadcast like its predecessor. I learnt that I was wrong, the hard way. I assumed that the HR broadcast feature would be inherited to the Watch Fit 2 because both watches are very much alike. This isnt the case. The feature was simply canceled. But now comes the interesting part: There is a so called Watch Fit Special Edition - this is basically a Watch Fit but with the new TruSeen 5.0 HR sensor of the Watch Fit 2. And voila - it still has HR broadcast. Dont mix up the special edition with yet another clone of the Watch Fit called New which apparently has only a 4.0 sensor. So this is the only cheap alternative to Apple's watches if you insist on measuring your heart rate with high accuracy on your wrist during workout and send it live to rouvy, kinomap, zwift, tacx and the like.
Wow! This is helpful and so reliable. I'm planning to upgrade from Watch Fit to its successor (this Watch Fit 2), and I'm really sad to see that their sleeping monitor (at least in detecting the sleep patterns) has slightly decreased based on your calculations. Did I get it correctly that we can rely on detecting at least the hours of sleep? Not sure if I heard it though. But still, great video overall, sir! Subscribing!!!
Thank you again for this awesome review. Have one question though, i did read that the Runner and GT3 and GT3 pro use the TruSeenTM 5.0+ for heart rate monitoring. The watch fit 2 "only" the 5.0 without the plus. Supposed to be inferior but it did not look like that in your review. Any thought?
Hi, I love your measurements and comparement. Do you have in plan to review gts 4 mini, which seems to ne biggest competitor to watch fit 2? Thank you for your great work. 😊🎉

Rob, good review. I was looking at the GPS tracking on your bike rides and wanted to know what maps are used with Huawei watches...specifically the fit2. Thanks in advance.
First of all thank-you for the review and for the efforts. Many reviewers are so creative when it comes to test fitness watches for GPS tracking, screen brightness, screen touch, screen type, screen faces, buttons, sound, microphone, notifications, app, straps, the plastic, heart rate, sleep, spO2 , but when it comes to test calories burn accuracy they are completely out of ideas, strange that there is not even a simple comparison about calories burn between the watches. I started to think that the reviewers are told by the manufacturers to not test the calories burn in purpose to hide that dark side. From my personnel experience Huawei are the worst in Calories burn counting. Only a review and comparison can prove me wrong :)
I'll add that this watch is pretty terrible at tracking your HR throughout the day without any Fitness workout turned on. I would suddenly get valleys of 40 bpm out of nowhere while standing. Or it would remain at 60 while going up the stairs and feeling my heart pump
Yes, I am seeing the same thing. It's excellent in "workout" modes but it's all day tracking is suspect. I have continuous HR turned on . My guess is there are different algorithms used with the all day HR using one that saves battery life while forgoing the accuracy of the workout modes.
@@leprechaunOG1971 I turned it off completely. It's not worth to keep it consuming battery while telling me that I'm hitting 83 bpm while going up the stairs
@@daguerrreo It does "sometimes". Before starting the workout you'll need to make sure it's working correctly. For example, I start to jog, and if my initial HR is not above 100-110, I'll take it off, scrub the sensor a bit and try again until it matches. Once it does, it tracks very well

Thanks! I was hesitating between a Galaxy Watch or a Fitbit device, but Huawei products are now very serious contenders.
Thanks so much Antoine!

@@TheQuantifiedScientist Why are you promoting Huawei products considering the blatant espionage they participate in? I feel like sometimes those nice checks do change your opinion a little bit :/
I love your videos! Please, could you do a special "episode" about the FUTURE of health sensors? Like, automatic calories tracker, continuous blood pressure monitor and other "upcoming" sensors. What can we consumers expect to see in the next 5 to 10 years? Thanks
Can you test Huawei Watch Fit SE?
I wanted to see this also ;)
Keep it up, this is the video that got me to buy a fit 2 as I'm on a limited budget! I'm primarily after heart rate. Love your channel, having a graduate degree as well, completely love your use of stats and datasets to correlate and test devices scientifically! Already subscribed! Look forward to your future content!
I'm currently thinking about buying the fit 2. Can you share your experience with the watch?
Thank you for such a detailed and scientific review!
(I was wrong)
The watch arrived and I was having a good time with it.
"116, 132, 151, 165"
Then I did some pushups to really put them to the test.
@@synthrequests5880 So if this is so than thnx for the info, because I was thinking of buying a GT3 for quite a while.
I got this watch (active version) for only USD 87. I was hesitant to buy it, I'm really glad I did.
Thats a really good deal. Where did you buy it if I may ask?
Seriously this is easily among the best content someone can produce and share on this video platform. Thank you!
First of all I d like to congrat you for being unbiased.
I have the following smart watches
1)Mi Watch
2)Mi band 7
3)Watch fit new
4)Watch fit 2
Your findings are exactly like what I am experiensing with my watches.
The "Watch fit 2" is the latest one I bought and I am surprised with the HR accuracy and the step counting but the sleep tracking is a joke.
I really hope a following update will fix this ...because the "Watch fit new" could detect the sleep and awake stages very nicely ( it was just adding some more deep sleep)
STAY UNBIASED
Its possible to release an update to fix this?
Is the watch fit 2 better at heart rate tracking than the watch fit new? It’s my deciding factor between the two
@@Grutchies The HR accuracy I had with these 2 watches was very similar.
I'm thinking of buying the huawei band 7 or huawei watch fit 2 for home exercises, maybe walking which would you recommend?
@@clementinakozma both of them have great hr accuracy.
The band 7 is super easy on the wrist.
The watch fit 2 has a bulky and pointy sensor and its hard on the wrist.
Hi, what is the difference between Huawei Watch Fit 2 and Watch Fit Special Edition?
correct me if I'm wrong the heart tracking I hope should be the same as fit 2 both have TruSeen 5.0 I gather the SE version has Trusleep 3.0 vs 2.0 on the fit 2 I myself am wanting one!!
Most comprehensive review of a smartwatch I’ve seen so far. Love the data!
Thank you for your hard work doing these videos. The best technical EXPLANATION
Watch Fit 2 user here for almost a year now: The watch is definitely 100% worth for its price, but there are some issues, so that you can manage your expectations:
- The heart tracking would sometimes work EXTREMELY well, accurately reading even up to very high BPM like 190ish. However, sometimes it would randomly be completely awful. For an exercise that I would expect my HR to be above 140, it would randomly read 110, 120. Even sometimes it would go complete nuts and read under 100, when my breath and sweat strongly disagree
- The continuous HR reading is complete garbage. I turned it off because it was just unnecessarily draining my battery without providing anything useful. Running to the third floor upstairs? Here's your resting heart rate of 70. It's better to have the manual measuring
- The SPO is also practically useless. Completely random. Many measurements towards the 98-99, when an actual pulse Oximeter would read 91-95
Should I still get one I found one for $60
@@Blu3_777 Yes, it's worth it. A solid product. Just manually measure your HR instead of continuously
So glad to found this channel. Testing the watch to another level compared to other channel. Love it
I'm really interested to see a review on the Huawei Watch D.
you gave more detail than official website. Great ;) thanks for your effort 👏
I have 1 question.
1) How is it possible for different smartwatches of the same brand(Example : Huawei Band 7 / watch fit/watch fit 2) to have different accuracy in heart rate and sleep detection , when they share the same sensors and algorithms?
not the same sensors, as they have different prices....
Easy to use OS 10/10
Colors, brightness and reactivity from the touch of your finger 10/10.

There is definitely variation. Depends on the person, how it was positioned in your arm, even amount of hair you have between the skin and the sensor.
Waiting for Huawei watch fit 3 review from you
A shame that sleep tracking is still not great, otherwise it's a good buy. The HR tracking is amazing.
None is 100% accurate for measuring sleep phases, nor do I think knowing sleep phases is of any use considering that it is a watch and not a device specifically created to measure sleep.
Any idea if sleep tracking is accurate in terms of sleeping vs awake?
@@aybmnn yes, if you're just looking for the accuracy of awaking and sleeping time then Huawei can do it well, it just struggles with sleep stages only
@@Tekismyname thanks for the explanation

I'm amazed by this. The sensor seems to be the same one used in old huawei watchers and yet the results are much better. Makes me wonder on how much software is missing in some gadgets.
the sensor is the same as the new Huawei Watches, GT3 Series.
@@thedarkness3080 yes, I noticed his comment on that. What I meant was that it looks similar to my old gt (in design). The gt 3 sensor seems more robust.
As always, the highest quality review. Thanks again!
Can you please also do a review about the calories burned during a workout? or is it useless and inaccurate in smartwatches?
Could you please make a video on Huawei gt3 Se edition? And which is better to consider between Huawei gt3 se edition and Huawei watch fit 2?
Amazing job as always, the most detailed review anywhere
It seems to me an excellent device, sleep tracking will not be perfect but I don't think knowing the sleep phases will help you either.
It costs $150 or less, I think it's a better buy than apple watch 7 which costs $350... Battery lasts 1 week or more, and you can use with Android/iOS

Is the Mi Band 7 pro review coming at some point?
Hi! I haven't been able to buy one as of yet. However, I hope to get one from Xiaomi to test :-)
So this is the only cheap alternative to Apple's watches if you insist on measuring your heart rate with high accuracy on your wrist during workout and send it live to rouvy, kinomap, zwift, tacx and the like.
you got that hfit se? would you recomend it? its gps good?

Wow! This is helpful and so reliable. I'm planning to upgrade from Watch Fit to its successor (this Watch Fit 2), and I'm really sad to see that their sleeping monitor (at least in detecting the sleep patterns) has slightly decreased based on your calculations.

So glad i stumbled upon your channel, top work, Keep it up!
i'd like to ask you about the "steps".
which watch is accurate in the steps counts?
is huawei band 7 accurate?
It's not worth to keep it consuming battery while telling me that I'm hitting 83 bpm while going up the stairs
hi guys, can u tell me if it does track sets with some good accuracy?
@@daguerrreo It does "sometimes". Before starting the workout you'll need to make sure it's working correctly. For example, I start to jog, and if my initial HR is not above 100-110, I'll take it off, scrub the sensor a bit and try again until it matches. Once it does, it tracks very well
