    Several years back, when my wife (Chinese) and I were living in Guangdong province (near Hong Kong), we offered to buy a 1-bedroom condo for my dad, because he's struggled all his life and we wanted him to be close to us, while not having to worry about anything. There was a McDonalds literally across the street, and a Starbucks and KFC 5 minutes away by foot - and my wife and I would be a 10-minute walk away. He said HELL NO! He went to Mexico, instead.

    Hi Johnny . Good pm. Just came across ur video . Wow , what a beautiful villa! Amazing . Honestly, this is d 1st video l came across a foreign blogger who built his dream house with just usd700k ,a huge piece of land . D interiors were well designed and decorated . I have seen expatriates owning exclusive condos but when come to landed property u top d list . I'm very familiar with Thailand having been there hundreds of times but never had d chance to settle der. It's a beautiful country , multi cultures , fabulous food and Chiang Mai suits westerner like u, a gateway from d bitter or harsh winter back home. Chiang Mai is cool though.
    U and ur wife must have possessed those acumen to design such a beautiful villa. I was a developer for 3yrs and suffice to say USD 700k is only a fraction of d real market value. Another few years it would appreciate by 100%.Without an iota of doubt u managed ur finances well
    Articulate too.
    Btw , M also very happy to see ur mom is with u . That's what a filial son should do. Asian culture put a premium on that , although it's imperative everyone should take care of their respective parents , when and if needed. My mom is 93 going strong , staying with me too. Dad passed away 1986.
    Wish u and family more blessings and good health. Chok Dee🙏🙏❤️❤️🇲🇾.btw M also a Liverpool fan, but they r struggling this season😭.l stayed in UK almost 4yrs back then as a student 40+yrs ago.

    Excellent design and feels like a home that is very functional for a family.
    You really need safety balustrading around the upstairs deck area as next priority for obvious safety reasons
    The central entertaining area (pool area) is becoming very popular in new house designs (U-shape) or even an L-shape or C shaped house
    Here in Perth, West Aussie with perfect climate we focus big time on the outside entertaining area as our backyards are all private (fully fenced in) versus say in US where they have no privacy and don't even use their backyards (wire fences which is terrible).
    Like the interior design and plenty of light - excellent colour scheme and choice of furniture to match - well done

    Hey Johnny! The house is beautiful! I’m really curious about how you worked out owning the property despite not being a Thai citizen. I’m an American living in the Philippines so I will face a similar challenge when I would like to build my house. Enjoy your new home 🙂

    • @rameshhansaravendra
      @rameshhansaravendra Год назад +7

      Foreigners are not allowed to own land in Thailand unless a citizen co-owns it. That's the dangerous part. If I'm not wrong, PH has a similar law.

    • @llothar68
      @llothar68 Год назад

      @@rameshhansaravendra Correct. You have to trust your wife. But even this is not 100% correct in Thailand because she has to be the source of the money. Gifts do not count. This was AFAIK never checked and percecuted. But this is a Damocles sword hanging over every rich foreigner.
      Many of the smartasses try to setup a thai company with non voting rights for the thai majority holders and the foreigner in full charge and the house is owned by the company. But every few years there is a crackdown on this fraud and people lose it all.
      The Philippines have very similar rules, except that the wife can get the money from the husband as a gift and buy the land from this money.

      @kimpop6701 Год назад +3

      in Thailand there are 2 options to more or less owning a property. First of all you can officially own the house and then you can lease the land for 30 years and secondly you can open a Thai company with you as director holding officially 49% of the shares and for the remaining 51% there are several ways to control them as well.

    • @llothar68
      @llothar68 Год назад +2

      @@kimpop6701 No the later option does not work. At least not unless you really have a functional working company where the cost of the house is comparable with the corporations revenue and has a use case.
      Otherwise it's criminal and i have seen two big raids on this scheme since 2008 where people lose their houses. Very famous the Ko Samui cleaning.

    I love the house and it looks similar to some things I have designed myself. I just hope you kept a close eye on every aspect of the construction to make sure that everything was done properly - its usually not in Thailand. Speaking of which, how was it constructed? I probably would have preferred poured concrete for something like this but I assume the walls are of the brick core type construction that is used in almost all houses in Thailand. And I’m guessing that the ceilings are the standard Thai hung sheet metal type. I’m also curious how you bought the land. Is it in your Thai wife’s name or did you set up a Thai company through which to purchase it? I personally would never go for either one of these options so I do not think I will ever be building a house in Thailand - not that I could afford to do so here in Phuket anyway.
