Mission: Uprising
I had a few issues with getting this to unlock when I ignored all the enemies at the beginning. It isn't necessary for most people to kill the first enemies, but in my case I had to.
Go through the mission killing all the enemies along the way. Once you get inside the structure. Continue going through the mission for a little bit longer, and you'll come to another door. When you enter the door, there will be a ledge and a lower area below you with some plasma turrets and a few enemies. The cowardly grunt can be found under this ledge, but he will only speak once the enemies have been killed. After clearing the area, walk up to him to get the achievement.
I got the achievement by turning the difficulty on easy with the scarab skull active.
I started the level and killed everything that moved: enemies, allies, no matter.
Then I went to the room where the grunt was and carefully killed everything except the grunt.
I then got the achievement.
I blew the grunt to hell afterwards for denying me the achievement in the first place.

Scarab Skull us a blessing and a curse. It can kill them as easily as it can kill you.
OMG!!! after so many hours trying to unlock this dumb thing finally was able to get it. I replicated the same steps: Scarab skull and easy difficulty in the first attempt the grunt's dialog triggered. Thanks a lot!!!
Poor little grunt. That a perfect example of grunts being loyal and caring to the elites and arbiter during the great schism. Wish they could of been allies in halo 3.
Originally they were going to be but was cut out because the people behind the scenes didn't want to confuse people.
Grunt won't talk to you unless you kill the brute at the end who runs to warn the other brutes!!! Found by Talla Talli

For anyone still struggling I just used the scarab gun to kill every enemy and ally up until you talk to the grunt, including the enemies in the room with the grunt, and it finally worked.

I want a grunt. Like as a butler or something. They're so cute and ugly at the same time.
I had to do it on Legendary...
Take your time. Let the NPCs keep up. I did it on Easy with Anniversary graphics on (which I never switched to Classic because I just figured it doesn't matter as others have done it both ways and said they got it).
I blew up the Brute that usually runs to raise the alarm with four brute shots and a grenade, went down slashed the rest with the help from the sword-wielding Elites and after the room was clear and the Elites circled around to check for enemies, I moved up to the Grunt and he finally fucking talked.
Don't speedrun it. Just take your time or it might not trigger. I suspect the script for it relies on allied NPCs having moved far enough in. You don't have to move slow, per se, but I would recommend not outpacing the NPCs too much. The ones that drop pod in at the start after the sword Elite comes outside and says his line won't follow you in until you start moving in, so don't wait around for them.
Didn't turn on any skulls, because people with and without IWHBYD didn't have much different luck and I didn't want the Scarab skull blowing up the Grunt by accident. I kept all explosions on the far side of the room. Sputnik also brings along the risk of physics deaths. You don't want to splatter the Grunt before he talks.

You can play on normal, IWHBYD Skull, and run as a fast as you can to each checkpoint KILL EVERYTHING... the main trick being to get ahead of the second group of brutes coming out of the door just before you enter the room with the grunt standing on the lower level. If you manage to get there before the second group comes out ( second group has buzzards ) run in and make sure to take out the brute who runs to go alert the other you are coming ( if you can stick him with a grenade before he starts running even better) eliminate the remaining two jackals and brute and walk over to the grunt 👍🏽

I think I know the trick. You need to kill the brutes, and only the brutes by yourself not by your mates. In the end when you enter the building one Brutes runs away to warn the others. Run after him and kill him fast. Kill the last one in the room with the grunt and he should talk.

If you didn't get it, just reset the checkpoint. The issue is that one of the brute escapes to the door in the back and comes back in the room. toss a grenade to the back wall to prevent a brute leaving the room and then start taking them out. The grunt should talk then.
I think the trick is you have to actually kill each enemy yourself, not have them killed by environmental explosions or other Covenant.
Nah, Elites killed some of them for me. It just seems to trigger far less often if you don't let the Elites and Grunts with you catch up. My guess is the game expects you have "progressed" through the level normally and if you don't properly hit spawn triggers and the like it doesn't handle it properly and that's why he doesn't speak all the time, but all I know is that I tried four times by running through the level, skipping the bottom area by jumping from the light, then skipping or kill the guards who come out the door and defeating the guards inside. None of those runs worked and frustrated me.
Then I decided to go slow, kill all the enemies, either myself or with help, and moved into the Cowardly Grunt's chamber to wipe out the last of the enemies in there. The Elites helped me kill a couple, at least one where I helped weaken him with a sword strike and he finished with his own, and he spoke once the room was clear and I walked up to him. I did this all on Easy. No skulls needed.
If that doesn't help, then it's just random. No other answer to it, really.

I've just achieved this by killing all brutes, and brutes only. Then ensuring no brute runs off at the end by using camo to get behind them, kill them, then the little grunt speaks!
I get him to speak every time but still no achievement....wtf.

i got it 2 work by making sure none of my ally's die aka grunts n that sword elite.. also did it on easy with no skulls.. so i didnt die.. tried it multiple times but worked 1st try when i did this.. i also killed every enemy like he said
Im in the same boat with not getting him to talk, Ive gone through this multiple times and have made sure to kill not only every brute but every enemy. So annoying
I missed a damn brute and, when I was staring at the grunt, he charged at me and killed him. So I paused to restart the checkpoint. Before I could, the achievement popped. However, it dawned on me that right before the little grunt died he said, “No, stop. Please,” in it’s cute innocent voice. I felt bad. So I made it my mission to destroy the fucking brute and every other bitch ass brute that came across me. Fuck them.
I guess I'm lucky? Had no idea this achievement existed until it popped on the bottom of my screen. Just looked it up now to try and figure out how I did jt lmao
Took me a few tries. Make sure you go invisible and kill everything in that room before anything leaves!
I think you have to do it without dying. If you do die, don't just restart the level, but select it again from the main menu.

There is no need to kill all brutes, you just have to rush the room where the grunt is, stick the brute that would leave, clean the room and talk to the grunt. Did it on easy mode
i found this guy on legendary while using your Skull guide oddly enough XD i got into that room on legendary, killed every enemy with the scarab skull, saw the grunt and thought he was an enemy, walked over and punched him once,m didn't kill him and i got an achivment and thought "wait.. so punching a grunt triggers this?": im glad i looked more into it XD
To be honest, i didn’t know that was an Easter Egg, I thought it was just part of a game as a survivor
it's funny because i got this without even knowing about it. i used the scarab gun skull and destroyed everyone while i was going for a toy or skull or something, i don't even know how he survived the blasts, but i just looked back and he was there

Maka91Productions weird I basically didn't kill anything until the last room and I got the achievement I killed everything before I got there and it didn't work so it's just kind of glitchy

When I play any of the Halo games in the master chief collection I don't have the medals pop up as they do on your video. How can I put them to show up.?
Put on Scoring or time.
If you have certain non-scoring skulls on then achievements won't pop

I can get him to talk but the achievment doesnt unlock. Ive gotten him to talk like 6 or 7 times on easy normal and legendary with variations of skulls off and on, killing all enemies and skipping them and it just wont pop. Pretty fuckin lame.

Played on easy with a few skulls on. Didn't work. After turning off skulls I played again and it worked.
