Today I inflict some scratches into a test panel and repair them using Meguiars Scratch X 2.0
I use Meguiars Scratch X 2.0 by hand and machine, can I easily remove a car paint scratch?
Scratch X 2.0 is available here:

Meguiar's products never disappointed me. For your everyday and budget friendly products this brand is the one I trust.
Actually did better on the heavy scratch with the machine than I expected! Like most commercial Meguiars products, good for a novice to use as unlikely they'd inflict any damage through overuse (by hand anyway!)
Good video mate 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Is it possible to use wax on the same place as the scratch after treating it with this compound?
This works . I changed the seat on my harley, and there were scuffs from the rubbing on the paint. I did exactly what u did and there completely gone ! Thank u very much
It absolutely does work!
Just tried it with a scooter, a couple of times by hand, I was amazed, I shit you not.
One of my buddies was going to paint my mom's quarterpanel for $125, then he forgot the things that I did for him and wants to put it off until spring. We want to sell the car ASAP, as I've put money into it. Later on, at a family Xmas party, I ask my cousin if her husband (that does body work) will look at the car. You ever have that gut feeling that someone is going to screw you over? He pulls this auto industry bullshit of, "I'll have to do the whole side of the car." The car is black! How much blending do you have to do to get the color right??? Amateur.... I'll do it myself.
Does the scratch come back when the car gets wet or washing it ?
no
Yes they do it’s like makeup
It’s good for a week or two if you use wax after using this
That’s why you need to ensure to ceramic coat the vehicle after using this product.
Thank you.
Excellent job, I will be buying Meguiars Scratch X2.0 because of your excellent review, thank you
I used this stuff on my last cars faded headlights, it did a brilliant job. 👍
Good alternative use case
👍👍
I bought this last year when I was buying the plastic scratch remover and was quite impressed as a I had a long scratch along my door. Didn’t use my DA but I would imagine it would have worked even more effectively. As usual great vid Dave
Do they come back after car washes?
I caught a bumper with a trailer coming around onto it , left a hell of a scratch , and on a DA this removed it all . Like you by hand it takes some work but it has removed light scratches with ease
Ouch! Good work getting it all out though! 👌
I have my doubts with Meguiars but this looks good. I need to get into using a machine polisher soon. Been holding off.
Have you seen the new one at in2detailing called the Sakura?? Its only 50quid.. gotta be worth a shot.

Great video! It would be interesting to know what the finish looks like after panel wipe though. It’s clearly got good cutting properties for scratches but I wonder what else is in the formula to enhance the finish? Such as fillers for example.
It had panel wipe to remove the residue, you can see the bottle on the towel at around the 2:00 mark. 😉
I wish to say the biggest THANK YOU for posting this Vid. Tonight a steel framed painting I had on the wall of my garage fell off & landed on my cars bonnet / above front wheel arch & put a couple of mighty scratches in the paint. I was really upset. I already had a bottle of Meguiars Scratch 2.0 on hand. I followed all your steps & the scratches are now very minor and only noticeable from super close up. Thank you again
Worked well on a fine 12 inch scratch on black pearlescent door paint. Would you believe the scratch was ‘pin fine ‘ caused by a bloody articulated lorry that turned left on me at a crossroad without signalling first ! An inch closer and he would written the car off !
Oooft! I know it's a demo panel but that scalpel scratching hurt my soul like nails on a blackboard!
That panel went to the scrappy a long time ago now, but it was a faithful servant of the channel. Have a look at the ShineArmor Graphene video for its final send off. 🤣
lol dude im using on my ps5
it worked?
Can you state what applicator pads you used in this video? Thanks!
I’ve had a bottle of this stuff for 10 years - it lasts a long time for small scratches though I’m not as precious of my paintwork these days 😮 - also used it on a plastic headlight lens 👍
Do the scratches come back after awhile or like after a car wash?
Hi! Just subbed. Do you know which one is more abrasive Meguiars Scratch X or Griots Complete Compound using a Black & Decker WP900 random orbital? it's not a DA polisher.
i almost had a panic attack when you activated my alexa lol. Great video, cant wait to use it!
I need to do that more 😏😂
Same happened here, she suddenly perked up
I'm defo going to start doing more of this in my videos 🤣🙉
Man you are amazinnggg thanks for your help 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Does anybody know if this works for scratches on the shell case of a Playstation 2 ?
Tried it, it doesn't at all 😅
do you know if this works on auto interior trim like sill plates??
Does this work on painted plastic bumpers?

Does it work the same on more of a flat color??
My boyfriends car is a flat red, mazda 3 and it's his baby and I'm just trying help him love the car back to prestine condition lol
Do you need to polish or put wax on after using it?
I used it myself to remove a blemish the size of a coin. Had to do two passes. After the second pass the work area was a bit hazy. I don't think I used to much product but it's possible. Applied the wax and it fixed it right up.
I used this on my truck now I got those swirl marks but it helped with the scratches. Maybe I just didn’t do a good job with it.
That's awesome! I need this stuff for my metallic black paint (code 690F)
Most of these types of products are for very light scratches. I have tried several brands, and none remove anything but light scratches. Thanks for posting!
Try my other scratch remover videos. The G3 Pro might surprise ya!
@@DetailingandtheBeast Thanks I will watch it.
Also works great for taking pop up marks from the crown of a driver, fairway wood, hybrid, etc.
This product is super . I recommend it . Scratches disappeared very easy with a micro faber cloth
Are there some polishing pads available for f.e. Worx Multitool?
I thought you’re not suppose to go in Circular motions because you’re more likely to cause swirls
1# question 2023 does it remove screen android phone scratches ?????
Ouch..those sounds when you deep scratch with knife. Pain to watch lol
Well i must be doing it all wrong.
I apologise to Meguiars
I would never have expected that product to handle such deep scratches.
My own car has scratches some as deep others no where near as deep.
I bought scratch X & ultimate compound not even dreaming it would remove the deep ones & i cant remove scratches that are nowhere as deep as the ones you show. Yes bought up a brilliant shine
I think its time for me to let someone who knows what theyre doing fix it
It could be the clear coat on your car, some are harder than others, it could be your work time, it could be the pressure you are using, too much product, there are a number of things really. This can take out a fair amount if it hasn't broken through the clearcoat.
Take a look at my other videos, I've since done 8 different scratch remover reviews and a megatest comparing them all with each other.
just a decent compound
Hey Brotha! I have a 2021 Chevy Blazer and a branch grazed the right hand side of my car by the back seat.
Is there a way I can show you a photo of the scratch?
Dave@TwistedOnline.co.uk 😁👍
What’s the difference from the original scratch X?
Okay scratch swirls, from a cloth shield be no prob ya??
Hello, Could you please tell me if this product is suitable for light bird mess etching marks on paint work ?
It seems to do a pretty good job. The only thing I don't know is whether it lowers the clear coat's level or not.
Yes, think about it like this, the scratch is into the clear coat, this will remove the sharp edges of that scratch "valley", removing the clear around the scratch so that it is blended into the surrounding area. These scratches can be quite deep so it's a case of knowing when enough is enough, and if removal is even possible. Check out my past few videos. I've done a Megatest of 8 scratch removers and show which ones do and dont work and to what level. 👍
@@DetailingandtheBeast Thanks for the info. I will check it out. Is there a way to replenish that clear coat? Maybe apply another product on top of the scratch with a cloth or something?
Clear is lacquer, no product, not even like a ceramic coating will "replenish" lacquer. If you go through, that panel will need a respray.
I've also done a video on just what it takes to go through clearcoat, so please go and check that out too!
@@DetailingandtheBeast Can you please paste a link with the latter video? I can't seem to find it. Thank you.

just saw this its 2020 now it took out the fine scratches on my Harley gas tank in three hand applications works way better than Harleys own product.
Is it permanent or does it wash off after a few washes?
OK but what after a few car washes? Everything it's coming back!
Scratch X is a cutting abrasive compound. It isnt so much a filler. If you are getting the same scratch coming back you need to work it harder.
Can you use this on mirrors, like in the bedroom please?
Straight to the point. Great video! :)
How does this compare with their scratch removal kit or is it the same product presented 2 different ways?
Is it better than Nu Finish scratch Dr. ?
Will this work with a wool buffing pad?
will this work on piano black plastic?
Turtle Wax scratch remover is a much better product
does this product work on a ceramic coated car?
Did not work for me, not even a little.
Can this fix scratches on shiny plastic door pillars?
I'd say it's probably too aggressive for gloss black trim. Try Koch Chemie M3.02 on a very fine pad.
Dave,
Glad you did this one as I've been using scratch for years and think it's ace.
Nice informative video. 👍
I know it's only a battered test panel, but I'm amazed nobody has slated me for using a craft knife on the panel 🤣
@@DetailingandtheBeast nah, should have got the Mrs carving knife out.
Yeah definitely wouldn't have been removing those. 😂
thx i will try this on my guitar..
Wow...massive difference with/without the machine
Great product !!!!!!
This is the worst overrated product, it scratches my car paint.
So it created more scracthes?
Can this be used on Gloss black plastic for wing mirrors?
It can, but... I'd be very careful as its quite abrasive. A fine grade low cut compound would be better/safer.
@@DetailingandtheBeast Thanks for the advice, I take it T-Cut would be best for blemishes
Tcut is garbage. Get something like a Koch Chemie ultra fine. But have a look at the scratch removal comparison I did. The G3 was the best for scratches.
@@DetailingandtheBeast thanks will do
I haven't used this product for years ,I didn't have a lot of success with it by hand on my motorbike tail piece
Maybe it's time to have another go with it now I have a machine
The same results can be seen with most decent compounds, but for the people who just need to pick up something quick from Amazon, or Halfords, and have relatively little experience, it's a great choice!
Can this be used for stainless steel
Does drill let holograms ?
What is the machine called that you used? The rotar...
amzn.to/3HawPEE
It is this machine. 👌
Wow
It produces great results, think I will have to get some!.
Will this also work on a gloss black exterior rear spoiler?
Yes, so long as its clear coated.
good video. thanks for the help
Hoping this gets rid of jealous neighbours scratch’s hoping there not deep
Oh wow! That's horrible. I hope it goes well for you. 😎
@@DetailingandtheBeast thanks hopefully it will do the trick
Great video.. thank you
Great video. Ty
I have some scratches that can just be felt by finger nail and can be hidden for a short period via all in one polishes, would it have been possible to remove the scratches in this example by just spending an awful lot more time by hand or as you commented below it might be time to get a £50 polisher. I have been putting of this option due to confidence and lack of suitable garage. Best wishes.
Hey Tim. Not all scratches that can be felt with the fingernail test are all the way through the clear. It's a case of "how deep" and if you can feasibly polish it out. In all likelihood the resolution here will be to polish "enough" to effectively round the edges of the scratch so that the light doesnt catch it as much. It will make it much less noticeable.
If it is, however, all the way through the clearcoat. The only option is a paint repair.
@@DetailingandtheBeast Thanks for your reply, i'll get some of this then and give it a go. I'm getting tired of using my all in one polishes with minimal cut, no doubt at some point i will also have to bite the bullet and get an entry level polisher as well - we shall see. Cheers.
Are you supposed to wax it afterwards?
You should as a matter of course, but NOT as part of any repair. 👍
That worked well. Good review, Thanks.
Straight to the point and we'll explained mate
there is hope. gonna try it....
Question when doing by hand how much pressure do you put?
Varying. More pressure with this by hand is more cut, but I find a medium pressure worked for longer gives a better result.
Good stuff man!
Can you use this on the entire car?
You could, but I wouldn't. £ per ml, you don't get enough to make it economical. Use something else (like Ultimate Compound) if you want to get something for the whole car. amzn.to/32HBSvX
@@DetailingandtheBeast should i clay bar the car before i use this?
@@alee0294 preferably, yes.
Great video, brilliant tool in any detailers/valeters arsenal. Do you have a merch store loving the hoodie
No store front as of yet. But I do sell them. They're £20 plus £3.60 postage to the UK. Contact me via email or my Instagrams - @ford_ranger_wildtrak or @twisted_online (this one is my clothing insta).
OK cool ive msgd you @twisted 👍
I got some of this on my skin, is that bad?
No I dont think so. I personally dont glove up for a lot of chemicals, compounds I've never had any problems with.
@@DetailingandtheBeast thanks, I did wash it off straight away so should be fine then
Way better with the machine..Way way better!
And much less arm ache 🤣
Is this a filler or remover, nice vid.
It's a scratch remover. Scratch X contains no fillers.
What hand applicator are you using ?
That's a medium one from aliexpress. Also available from autobrite direct 😏
First :)
thanks
Great video mate looks good stuff mate keep safe mate
You too Martin
👍
Good demo man. Im struggling with pinholes in a 2k clear coat spray...do you think this product might work?
Thanks!
Now onto this pinholes issue, as far as I'm aware pinholes (or I know as solvent pop) are actually quite common, but I know they can be unsightly.
The only solution that I know of is to repaint the panel, it's an issue caused in the actual substrate itself, not the paint. So I dont believe that any sort of compounding/polishing will remove the defect.
@@DetailingandtheBeast hmmm ok thanks yes ive tried various polishing compounds but no success yet. Can i ask what sort of pad you used here and what RPM on the polisher? Thank you!
So that pad is an autofinesse finishing pad. The speed on the polisher is at 5 and that is around 4800rpm.
@@DetailingandtheBeast great thank you, if i dont have one of those should i use a harder or softer pad?
I'd say you can use any fine or medium pad, and itll be fine. I personally would not use an aggressive pad.
Is this better or t cut?
This, easily.
I've rated this stuff for years. Its my go to when I can't be arsed with getting the DA out and the missus has been out to the shops ;)
🤣 Blame the mrs!
It worked well but it seemed to break down quickly under rotary and start to flake up what I would essentially call dusting
Hey Alex. It's a DA machine that one, and dont know if it was the camera and the lights, but it wasn't dusty at all. Still very oily when wiping off.
What pad do you use with the polisher, cut or heavy cut?
Always work finer to heavier to find the right level of cut for each manufacturers clearcoat. Every paint system will differ.
And by going fine to heavy you don't over cut where it might not be necessary.
Nice one Dave ,I still use good old Tcut to remove heavy scratches
You know what - I have never even owned TCut, let alone used it. When I first got into car care about 20 years ago, I was scared of using it after the horror stories you heard. But by the time I knew about abrasives properly, I just used something else. I've just never crossed paths with TCut.
@@DetailingandtheBeast lol if you use it lightly at first it great stuff, maybe you could do a test ,I like the one in the toothpaste tube
