Toyota Auris Hybrid Review - Auto Express

It's priced competitively against 2.0-litre diesel rivals, and offers a different hybrid proposition to the Prius, mainly because it looks like a normal car. Just like its stablemate, the Auris is great around town. But the familiar hybrid foibles remain, with a harsh note under acceleration and average economy. So on the motorway, good though the newcomer is, we'd still recommend a diesel instead.
Oh, back when Matt was a teenager still!
Matt is everything
Its achievable. Ive averaged 86mpg but it does take alot of work. But with steady normal driving 60mpg is easily done. What other automatic can get that around town?
Good review, Many U.K. jobs hinge on this car being a success, It looks a good product, because its lighter than a Prius, its even more economical. Honda dont make a full hybrid like this
@eMWe
That is a mistake in the Video. When Driving on a flat road after a hill you can drive much faster on electric juice only.
Im 22 this is my car best car I love it save money on petrol. Well done toyota!. Prius next 😀😉
@kazimann it's around 1200kg
@rubos306
Just because Toyota Europe headquarters are in Belgium (Braine L'Alleud - south of Bruxelles)
Dont know why he is surprised about the MPG figures. Everyone knows they are always less than stated by manufacturers.
Watch it til the end..
Does this Auris have a MMT (Robotic) Tranmission or a CVT one?
e-CVT!
I think its a nice city car
its cheaper and better looking than Prius (full kitted one) and way cheaper than CT200h.
Plus exemptions of tax and congestion charge.
Great car and it looks good! BUT why don't they use a CDI/TDI diesel engine? They could achieve 2-3 liter/100km if the use diesel instead of super.
What about topspeed, accelleration, weight?
I like this car, maybe it's my next one after my second VW Lupo 3L (tech from 1999, but still around 3 liter/100km !!!).
McDaniel-77
why do they have belgium plates?
Belgium plate, British review driving in Spain.
41mph? :D i probably would be unable to use the e.motor of this car :D
@kazimann Are you high? This is not Fiat 500.
2018
This is Uk why driving on the left side ????
He's driving in Europe.
The UK is in Europe (nothing to do with the EU)
Until the channel tunnel was built, we were an island off of the western coast of Europe. The rest of Europe drives on the right, we drive on the left. Going by the car registration, was he in Belgium?
+Steve Lamb I understand your point but geographically speaking the UK, (like the Balearic Islands, Corsica or Iceland), are islands part of the European Continent, like Japan is part of Asia. ;)
He is driving in Spain (confusing, yes).
This looks better than the Prius.
I love 💕 this 🚗 how much in CFA
Hello fellow Atheist, just stop man. If you go to places like New York, Paris or even Dublin, if you find a taxi-Prius and ask the driver how much miles or km it done. I've done so, and I was told that it ran nearly 350,000km without any battery change.
Unfortunately, Toyota charges a fortune on new batteries for around €4000, while getting your own easily off the self or from a scrapyard can be less than €500. You can even refurbish it.
BTW there's an 8 year 100,000km warranty for the battery.
Wow the past of carwow
why do they use a 1.8 they should use a 1.4 for better econamy
False economy. A slightly bigger engine gives doesn't have to work as hard so it is actually better on fuel. It's also better on the motorway which is why the old prius 1.5 was replaced by the 1.8
my 2005 mazda 3 1.6 liter diesel got that fuel economy if i drive it like that ..... not impressed at all
you don't have to be. it's kind of hard to picture any diesel on any car achieving that consumption in city traffic (given that they aren't getting 3.5 l/100km on the freeway), or that reliability.
2020hyper miling
That consumption is way too high. You don't need a hybrid for that.
You'd get even better mpg with 1.4 diesel with the same kind of driving.
Yeah but diesels will be banned from a lot of cities soon
@@donderbassieits nonsense, cause electric vehicle are way more dirty than petrol and diesel.
@@Corsa15DT depends on where your electricity comes from. Green energy or coal energy, I would suggest watching some videos of Engineering Explained on youtube on the matter.
@@donderbassie most of the time its coal, then gas. Green energy is in its early stages.
@@Corsa15DT Depends in which country you live. There's also nuclear energy
Who the hell designs these cars.
jake Stevens a genius
but they cannot make cheap hybrid cars yet...this one is almost as expensive as prius, I''ìll buy th prius for a little more..
So far, this is the best looking hybrid. Don't compare it with a prius please. That's a family car, just like the Honda insight or the Honda Civic. It has a automatic gearbox and is more luxuriously equipped than the prius for that same money. The Honda CR-Z comes close, but is not as practical.
My next company car will most likely be this Auris. Now i only need to convice Toyota to offer better colors instead of the predictable and boring black, blue and silver;-)
hybrid is better engine fail proof than it's claim fuel economy.quite good for rich people.no good for normal people like me.but i still wish to have one, because that might mean i am rich enough...XD
@McDaniel77 A Toyota is not a VW, Toyota would never use another manufacturer's engine and VW the same. But car manufacturers can have an agreements like the Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 they're the same cars and have the same engines to reduce costs ect...
Looks nice but I rather have the 1.4d4d as its much efficient as this pruis engine also its much better to drive and if you want somthing more powerful the get the 2.0d4d auris which is efficient and better, or go with 1.6vvti yes its not as fuel efficient as the other models but still somthing. I mean average 60mpg is great efficientency if you can get more thats fine but I rather enjoy driving and not be driving like a old grampa just to get 70 or 80 mpg I rather drive faster and no be taken over by other cars even if im getting 50mpg.
So in short, it's not viable for anyone who doesn't already live in the city. Like all hybrids.
Smoothness of acceleration and braking is key to economy in ANY CAR TOYORETARDA, NOT just hybrids. Seriously.
I can granny my 3.3L V6 dodge caravan and get an extra 70 miles out of a tank of petrol, if i want to be cut off, honked at, and generally roadraged the whole drive.
Stfu dumbass
"closet environmentalist" XD
Hybrid avensis🤦♂️ the avensis is looooong gone
tesla blows em all away!! great presentation as always..keep em coming.
You have to drive like Miss Daisy, in and around built up city, and take abuse from other frustrated drivers.
All these so called Hybrid cars are just bollocks. The normal 1.6L version is as good as it gets.
mavericksf16 you're bollocks
Don't get me wrong. I think the Toyota Prius is a great car. And I think 50 miles per gallon is a number that would impress even Scrooge McDuck.
HOWEVER, there is a problem if you become so fixated on 'driving green' that you're annoying the other drivers. That's creating a hazard. And an officer can give you a ticket for that.
The Toyota Auris does seem to create kind of a danger while the Toyota Prius gives you the impressive 50 mpg in combined driving.
