This definently helps a lot! My hamster is really skittish and is not quite tame yet, but I can still grab him to check him, but when I do im not always fully sure exactly what im looking for. I knew hamsters are supposed to have health checks so I would usually just make sure the hamster is normal, but this could still let me miss an important detail. This really helped me on knowing what I am checking on and looking for, so I can know if my hamster is sick and treat it early❤

Maple (my hamster) has never had any problems and next month she’ll be 1, so I’m really starting to keep an eye on everything (I’ve always tried to, though) because she is getting older. She’s a Syrian, and she looks so much like Dipper! The hams are cute (as always😍) and I love Mabel’s fur coloring!!!! Thanks again, Victoria!💖

Despite having had hamsters for decades, i always find your videos informative & helpful! We have a heatwave in the UK right now, and my little Muffin seemed very listeless, even when he came out for his evening run around he was back in his cage quite quickly, but after a couple of days he deceided to stay out, under a chest of drawers near an outside door, i think there was a slight breeze, so i just left him to it...there's no way he can get out of the room..left his cage open with plenty of food and water, and he seemed a lot happier where he was, he popped out and trotted about in the evening, went into his cage to eat & drink but went back under the drawers to sleep..finally a little cooler today, and he came out and went into his own cage and went straight to sleep! Under the chest, i have found a stash of food, cotton wool pads and a couple of face wipes which he's swiped from a waste basket, a chewed eyebrow pencil, a pair of knickers and a 1/2 eaten cookie! I had no idea he'd been quite so busy while i was asleep!

    • @Little_Mushroom_Pets
      @Little_Mushroom_Pets 2 года назад +3

I would recommend keeping a fan in the room, (not to near his cage) and have lots of ceramic things in the cage. You can put a small flower pot in the freezer but make sure to thaw it to where it’s just a tad bit cold and put it in the cage. I might help when it is hot out. Also try not to let him have cookies they can be bad :)

Thank you Victoria, as usual, you give informative info and I am always learning to take better care and how to maintain a healthy hamster. I have been watching you for years now and I am glad that you allowed another hamster into your life to love and care for. It is so hard to open your heart to another hamster after losing one especially since their life expectancy is so short. But the great thing is they are so easy to love and are so darn adorable.

My hamster Pippin passed away from heart failure and I was devastated

As he was dying he was wrenching his back and doing really weird stuff
But as he was doing it I was laughing bc it looked like he was swimming and I didn’t know he was dying
I hope you feel better ❤️‍🩹
But the pain you have probably won’t go away for a while
I still have dreams about him and I’ll wake up and start bawling my eyes out
      May Dash Rest In Peace
I bet Pippin and Dash are up in heaven having a blast
Eating treats and having long naps together

So what happened was dash was starting to act weird ( he was 1 year and 5 months) every time I wanted to pick him up so I could check him he bit me then I closed one of his eyes the on a Saturday morning I checked him and his eye was pop out just a little bit but he couldn’t see well so my dad go so eye drops and his eye got better every time we put it in so first we went to a vet and said “we don’t treat hamsters sorry “ and I was really anguished but kept my tears back then we went to a different vet and said they thought he was a dog when my mom said clearly he was a hamster and I was a bit angry but mostly sad for his mental health then we finally found a vet who treat hamsters I was very happy as soon a we got there the doctors were so nice but the sad part comes they to the exam of dash and said that he had a tumor in his little tummy and was in complete shock and they told us that they could give him medicine or put him down:( I started to cry a lot and I said “ can my dad and brother come say there goodbyes “ and the doctors said “yes” and my dad and brother came but the only one who knew was my dad because my mom called him and said that he had a tumor so then my dad rushed to the vet and brought my brother and they came and said there goodbyes and the doctor came in and took dash to the back and said “we will put him down now “ I saw that the doctor had tears in her eyes then came back with dash and let us spend time with us and took him to the back and bought him back with him being in a gray bag that said dash and she put his orange stick which was his favorite toy . This is such a great video! I'm currently an SVN and I see so many people who have never done a health check on their animal, and some that aren't even aware of what they are. They're such a crucial procedure that in some cases can help establish the cause of potential underlying health problems. So again, thankyou for filming this video and putting it out there for people to see and understand. 🙂🐾

Omg I'm so glad I watched this. Jinki's breath has been smelling so bad lately so now I know he may have an impaction and I should take him to the vet. The only thing is I'm poor I don't have the money for an exotic vet and I know what you guys are thinking 'well you shouldn't have bought him' I didn't. My 11 year old niece did and brought him home and their landlord said no. She caught them walking in with it. So they brought him to my house. My niece doesn't even come to visit him anymore. I've fallen in love with him. He's a winter white Russian dwarf hamster. 😥

I just want to thank you, in November I will be getting a new hamster. I had two when I was younger at ages 11 and 13 and both lived in a small critter trail. I will be 19 soon so much older and I’d like to think more responsible! My mum bought a cage and I caused a little argument about it because of how little it is and she tried to justify the cage size by saying the hamster is small so it can fit inside the small cage. But! I think she understands now and accepts the fact I want to build my own bin cage that I know is going to be suitable! I’ve learnt so much from your channel and I’m so glad I’m now educated on hamsters so I can give my little fur baby the life she/he deserves when the times comes 🥰

I’m so glad I found your channel. I had hamsters as a kid and you know - did my best with the information that I had. Now that I’ve moved away from home I wanted something to keep me company in the apartment and decided on a hamster. I wanted to do some research first though and luckily found you (and some other great channels). Now I’ve just built my own detolf cage, gotten four different types of safe bedding, two brands of food blends with great variety and a wheel that’ll actually be big enough and not made of metal bars that little feet can get stuck in. Now I’m just waiting for a breeder I’ve been talking to to have a Syrian ready to move in with me.
The last hamster I had as I kid was from a pet shop. He was taken too early from his mum and never got used to humans. Both of the hamsters I’ve had showed signs of stress, which we mistook as “normal behaviour” and “playful climbing”. I’m so glad that I know better now and I feel prepared to give my new little fur baby a much better life than the past ones have had❤️

Imagine a world where we cant trust the petstore (they don't even sell the appropriate enclosure) and the petstore literally lies to customers about the needs of these animals. We dont need to imagine. That is whats happening.
We have to go to the internet to get appropriate information from people who care. Do I need to start an ethical pet store?! Why is it so hard to provide what the animal actually needs in terms of enclosures. It is their literal world.
I also keep betta fish.. so that is another pet that very mistreated (and generically weak) due to the petstores misinformation and poor breeding practices. Now learning that hammies are so mistreated too makes me want to save them.
Every view you get on this channel is helping hammies all over the world get better care. I hope you feel those heartwarming good vibes because these videos make a real difference in educating on what the animal needs. The first step is educating people.
Maybe one day those tiny hammie prisons will be banned. And we can thank the passionate pet owners on YT for being ethical and spreading knowledge on their care and raising the bar. Because if everyone was as outraged about tiny hammy prisons as we are they simply would no longer exist.

You really just have to brush it to help reduce tangles/mats. Diet also plays a big part in what the coat will look like/

I lost my hamster a few months ago to an unknown illness. One day, he just became lethargic, was really swollen, and wasn’t eating. Just sleeping. I tried to take him to any vet that was open but they didn’t or specialize in animals that small. I never found out what was wrong with him, he passed away. It stills hurts to this day. Thank you for this video.
