What a brilliant vlog! Colin, you must be so proud of yourself. Well done ❤️ During the Winter, I like a little honey in my first cup of tea every morning.
You’re such a softy Colin worrying about taking the honey from the bees. You’re such a kind-hearted person. Can’t believe you didn’t put the extractor together before now. It’s all so complicated. What fun though.
Oh my goodness gracious me! that Heather Honey looks absolutely fabulous and delicious! Congratulations Collin! 🎉 I am currently in a complete toss up between that honey, and Shaun’s Orange Marmalade Shred! Oh I bet they both are simply too delightful to eat. Too Yum 😋
Fear of doing a task and getting it wrong is a crippling part of ADHD that i suffer from, even though I'm intelligent, hands on and can solve most problems i encounter. It will actually stop me from doing something until it's nearly life or death that it's done. Well done for tackling this new thing in your life, few will understand how hard it must have been.
This was a delightful video. Such beautiful videography, that night sky, and the music you chose when you poured the honey into the jars - perfect! So much work goes into beekeeping, no wonder honey is so expensive - but worth it. Thank you both.
This takes me back-- for his first retirement, my grandfather took up beekeeping. He had several hundred hives, and was producing multiple 55 gallon barrels every season. His extractor was just a "little bit bigger". :) The other big difference was he used a heated knife-- made cutting through the wax much easier. I know almost what it smells like-- yours is gorse and heather, his was orange blossom. Fantastic. Thank you! By the way-- what are you doing with the wax? At least in the US, the wax is pretty valuable as well.
Applying heat can have detrimental effects on the nutritional value of honey. Even warming up to 37°C (98.6 F) causes the loss of nearly 200 components, some of which are the antibacterial ones. Warming up to 40°C (104 F) destroys some of the important enzymes and affects its taste. It’s important to me that my honey is raw and natural, however difficult it is to process. I’ve got plans for the wax, but not until next year 👍🏻😉
@@FoxesAfloatUnderstood, with a caveat-- I am not an expert, so I'm not disputing your numbers, but since human body temperature averages around 98.6F, I'm struggling to see the benefit of these compounds. A hive can (but probably shouldn't) reach that temperature in warm weather. In my grandfather's case, he pretty much had to use power tools for removing the wax-- As you've noted, the process is somewhat arduous, and multiplied by several thousand, it just isn't practical otherwise. That is some genuinely gorgeous looking honey you've made there. Much thicker / richer than what you'll get in Florida.
Colin and Shaun, thank you. I have been watching your vlogs for a very long time and I think this is my favourite one. I didnt think they could get better but they have. I was superglued to watching the episode. Your empathy, care and sensitivity to the Bees came out of the screen into my kitchen. That your Bee keeping is helping to increase bee numbers is wonderful. Thank you again. Just to note I am Vegan and could not eat honey but your kindness to Bees and wish to stay small and working in support of the relationship with your Bee friends makes my heart sing. ❤️
Colin, you are an excellent teacher! Your explanations are clear, you circle back to the facts without being condescending, you're just straightforward and have a strong sense of how memory and learning work, I am very impressed! You have taken us with you on a wonderful journey, and I am grateful to you and Shaun for making this possible! Thank you so much. PS we in the Pacific Northwest got all your sunshine - we're in a drought! I hope the rains come back to us soon. Thank you again for the great video and teachings!
Could feel the exitement everytime when Colin did something new. The pure joy on his face was great! Think Colin has a real talent for presenting as is it clear of the vlogs made now and in the past.
WOW. This was nearly an hour long and it seems to have flown by in a few minutes. You have a wonderful way of explaining things and drawing the viewer in. I was engrossed. Congratulations on producing your first batch. I am looking forward to many more episodes. Best Wishes from Australia 🇦🇺
Gorgeous honey shots. And next year maybe you will get some WeeBee Volunteers to help with cutting, extraction, filling and labeling jars... come get your honey, honeys! 😊
That's wonderful, thanks for showing us, You're a Highland Honey Slinger now! I can see how it can become an obsession to get as much honey extracted as you can. Very informative video, many thanks!

First off, you are a very groovy teacher/instructor. I have always loved honey. You know the honey that comes in the little bear containers, but now because of you, I am very interested in how honey is made from bee to jar and label. You two have always been a joy to watch, no matter what you are up too. I am excitingly looking forward to seeing your upcoming honey episodes. Boy, that sounds weird. Stay safe and stay groovy.
Nice job, impressed you bees have done brilliantly, and so did you harvesting it, processing it, and shovin it in the jars. Nice work m8! Thanks keep up the good work.
Im falling in love with you guys all over again. This vlog reminds me of your SilverFox launch vlog after so long getting it built. This is amazing as I have watched you start bee keeping and now full circle you have honey 🍯. Aww just the sheer determination from no experience to this. Absolutely inspiring stuff.
