I'm so glad this exists, it was so hard to find actual tournaments of Puzzle Fighter a few years back (which surprised me cause there's a lot of Puyo Puyo ones). Game's mad fun but imo super underappreciated. The commentators are super cool as well!
It's fun but I think it's neither under nor over appreciated. There's only two playable characters, and it's a bit rubber-bandy. The announcers are okay but don't really know the game that well (for instance, Akuma doesn't take more damage in arcade SPF2, that was only in the Sirlin "remaster" which nobody plays. In arcade SPF2 he just deals less).

Planning doesn’t take you as far as just going faster. This is a game where the faster you play the faster you cycle through your blocks and getting to important ones like the diamond which i understand comes at a regular interval so that can be abused.

I so wish there was a legit, active community for this game. I’m not bragging when I think I could beat these guys but I also know I’m nowhere near as good as the best. Would be so much fun to play people who are top 1% and focus on getting better.
He can win with any character. Ken has easily breakable blocks Akuma and Devilot got smacked when they’re the most broken characters in this game. It’s not about the character it’s about but the player.
@@OhhFocal yet he chose Ken, like damn near every competitive player in this game does, and the commentators saying the same while saying gouki and devilot weren't that good. Looks like a poorly balanced game to me.
@yudoneidano1038 funny enough, the HD version actually has balance changes, but yeah, base puzzle fighter is not balanced at all, tho single Elim made it so that we weren't allowed to have fun and play other characters lol
@@OhhFocalAkuma and Devilot aren’t even close to being broken. Their damage modifiers make the drop patterns they have moot. The two characters worth playing are Ken and Donovan. Ken is better if the player is able to get big hits. Simple as that.
It matters at the tournament level where Ken is considered to be the best character in the game because of the drop pattern so everyone is playing ken.
@OhhFocal Akuma and devilot aren't that great because the amount of gems they send is actually less than everyone else. What normally would be a 7-10 damage for a normal character would end up being 1-3 for them. Ken is good because if you stagger his damage to make sure you're sending at least 14-17 damage, its difficult to recover, especially if your board isn't flat

This is the shit. Need more of puzzle fighters and maybe pocket fighters too in other major fgc events. At least as side tournaments.

The character really doesn’t matter as much as the gameplay.
Tournament would’ve been more interesting if everyone was Dan. Just seeing a bunch of Ken players is annoying and boring
