Your jumper looks great with that dress. I'm a newby knitter, think I'll try the miss marple scarf once I finish the mitred square blanket I'm making. One knitting project at a time!
I LOVE that beret I wear hats every day, ever since I got melanoma of my scalp and my doctor said to protect my scalp from the sun from now on. But to tell you the truth, I was LOOKING for an excuse to wear hats every day because I adore them and have always wished that hats would make a comback in a big way, here in the states. Also love the podcasts. It's like having a friend to hang out with and talk about fiber arts, patterns, etc.
Thank you so much! I definitely feel the same about hats, my only issue with wooly ones is sometimes they can make my forehead itchy so I’m very fussy about which ones I wear! 🤣 ps I feel exactly the same about filming the podcasts, I sit down and imagine I’m chatting to some friends who just ‘get it’! Sending love xx
I have read A Man called Ove, and watched the film. The film is worth seeing, a good representation of the book, and Tom Hanks is wonderful as always. A bit sad, but is life!
🥰🥰🥰 Loved every second!!!!! The beret is stunning and your KNITTING is fabulous! For me, knitting is pure insanity, so I think that your project is pretty amazing. 😆 It’s all about perspective, right?! This was all so wonderful and I’m excited to hear more about your books!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, Emma! I feel the same with crochet! That's why I watch and follow you: to learn! I don't know how to count in crochet language haha haha! Your hat is lo-vel-ly! your book recommendations are fantastic, I'll get the Dictionary, sounds interesting. Happy and healthy 2023!
Thank you - I’ve had several knitters say the same so I’m feeling reassured as I thought all knitters were super humans! 🤣 Do look into the book it’s lovely so far. Em xx
I have to comment on that pretty hat. I also like a longer beret and the little embellishments you added are so perfect. Perhaps you can make a Miss Marple ascot to go with the beret. Thank you for some good book club suggestions. My club is always on the look-out for good books to add to out list. The Dictionary of Lost Words sounds very interesting.
Oh Emma your hat is so pretty - ❤the flowers and pearl beads. Thank you for sharing the book recommendations - I’ve added Dictionary of Lost Words to my audiobook collection 👍🏽 I’m ready to start something new. Like you I’m trying out knitting - I’d also seen the Miss Marple scarf but decided to make the Sophie neckerchief (scarf?), it seemed simpler while very versatile and pretty. Im looking forward to seeing both of your versions!
Thank you 💕 I will look the Sophie pattern up - maybe I should have started with something easier but it certainly has been fun trying! 🤣🤣 Sending lots of love xx
Really enjoyed your podcast Emma! I’m also a crocheter who is dabbling a bit in knitting at the moment so it was really interesting to hear your thoughts and experiences too. Also loved the book chat at the end - picked up a few new ideas for me!
The Miss Marple scarf is wonderful and I think I will make one too. Your beret is so lovely with the flower you have made. Btw we are only up to issue 125 in NZ for Simply Crochet so by they time we get to 130 it will probably be June! Thank you for another lovely episode.
I think the look great are good fun to make! Oh wow maybe it will arrive in time for some summer fairies!! Sending love and thank you so much for watching and spending time here. Em xx
Hello Emma I always love it when I see you have a new episode up. I always take the time to sit with my tea and a crochet project while I watch. Always love your book recommendations and TV shows. We really liked Happy Valley. Have you watched Endeavor? Oh my gosh, we are hooked! We’re on season 6 now.
Hello, thank you! I too love to watch a podcast with my crochet… it always feels like a treat. I absolutely LOVED Endeavour… I grew up watching Inspector Morse with my dad! Although now you’ve said you’re on season 6 I’m going to have to check I haven’t missed a season…Em xx
@@Lululovescrochet That’s so fun to know! I’ll have to share that with my husband. He remembers some of those too and was telling me about him as an older Morse. (Russell’s parents were born in the UK so I often get interesting tidbits about things) 😊Thanks so much for your reply.
Lovely episode Emma, really love your beret and Miss Marple scarf. I have a few Japanese craft books and recently realised that if you use the Google lens in the Google app, it translates the text for you, it’s literally like magic!🌸
Yay! I’m so glad you’re enjoying The Dictionary of Lost Words so far. Yes it was me who had commented on an earlier podcast that I was interested to hear your opinion. I adored this book, and what you’ve heard is right, the story is about to take a turn but I felt it was a natural progression from childhood to adulthood. Another one of my favourites is A Man Called Ove, I also watched the Swedish make of this movie and enjoyed it too (with subtitles). I haven’t watched the new release yet but I’m sure Tom Hanks will do a great job, although I am a bit disappointed that they changed the name to Otto to be more appealing for the Western audience. Your beret is gorgeous. You are doing really well with your knitting of the Miss Marple scarf and the pineapple scarf is lovely. It’s always a pleasure to hear from you and I look forward to your next episode 😊
Oh thank you - I am absolutely loving it and so glad you gave me the nudge to finally pick it up it’s been a little joy throughout January! I’m excited to see A Man Called Otto because I’m enjoying the audio book so much too! Sending lots of love, Em xx
Love watching you again..and love your projects..Don't feel too bad to your Miss Marple scarf..I've been knitting for decades and still made a mess of that scarf..its deceiving!,..have to check out a tutorial myself..crochet is so much faster..im an English style knitter also..
Your hat is adorable 😮👍🏻! I’m really enjoying your book reviews -I have steered away from the ‘Spare’ so far, but would be really interested to hear what you think 🫣. I came to crochet via knitting thinking it would give me an advantage - it didn’t 🙈🙄😃. X
Thank you 💕 It’s so interesting (and reassuring) that you’ve had a similar experience learning to crochet after being a knitter- knitters always look so competent to me I just assume they can do anything 😂 xx
Thank you! The top is one I made, it was an old wip that I frogged as I’d initially made it too big I didn’t use a pattern but just tried it on as I went and it fits just right now! Xx
Regarding knitting. Please read this as half jokingly, I exaggerate some things and I fully understand that with learning and practising I wouldn't have the "issues" I am having. I am 31 years old and have been crocheting since I was 8, so for me crocheting is comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable. Last year I decided to learn to knit. And I can easily say I mostly find it totally tedious 😂 I find myself thinking "why, why, why are people doing this?". It's unforgiving, it's hard on the hands, it's worrying (I have a slight panic all the time I am knitting that I am going to drop my work and things will just glide off, och drop a stitch and have to start over etc. I have knitted two tops (one from a pattern and one free hand), and they were easy, straightforward tops. When I see these intricate colorwork patterns, with cables, a mix of stitches, and super thin yarn I think to myself "that's gorgeous!", and directly after that I think "oh the absolute horror of making that". I am strongly considering leaving knitting behind, because I do not at all understand the joy of it (yet). 🙃
😂 I completely understand and agree. I feel exactly the same about knitting. It hurts my hands in a way crochet doesn’t and I have to focus as I’m very aware that if I drop stitches etc I have no idea how to correct it! I can see almost instantly if I make a mistake with my crochet but I don’t have that ability yet with knitting and I fear having to pull it all back! I too get very frustrated at how easy some people take to it… it’s been 3 or 4 years since I first taught myself and I still consider myself a complete beginner 🤣🤷♀️ I think part of the problem is I go back to crochet so quickly because like you said it’s enjoyable, relaxing and so much quicker! I’ve come to terms with the fact I’ll never be a natural knitter 😂😂 xx
😀💕xx thanks Emma for a good varied podcast. I love the book bit at end. Your beret is lovely. Lots of love.
Love the beret. It looks so cosy. It’s fab to catch up with you again xxx
Thank you 💕 xxx
Your beret is absolutely delightful, especially with the decorative flowers and leaves, so very pretty. Take care 🧶🧵✨
Thank you! I’m so happy with how it turned out and it’s been perfect for these frosty mornings! Have a lovely weekend xx
Love your beret hat, it’s lovely! Love the juniper yarn!
Thank you! 💕xx
Read the Dictionary of Lost Words last year and I loved it. Just a delight! Enjoy it!...oh and you're lovely. Thanks!
Oh thank you! I’m enjoying the book so much I’ll be sad to finish it. Thanks for watching xx

🤣🤣 Thank you so much! I also view knitters as some kind of magicians! Xx ✨
I am so glad you are making videos again. I could listen to you all day. Those fairies are super cute, look forward to seeing the one you make!
Thank you Linda, it’s lovely to be back chatting away about the things that I enjoy! I’ve missed you all 💕

I love your beret. I really would love if you could write a pattern for it. My granddaughter loves berets!
Keep up the lovely episodes.
Thank you, I will try and make some time to do a pattern. Sending love xx
I love your crochet top, is it one of your patterns? Lovely episode, the Miss Marple scarf looks fun and the crochet version is beautiful.

Love your podcasts, I too do not like the month of January.
Thank you! It’s a tough month… but we’re nearly there. Thanks for watching. Xx
I think you can use Google translate and hover it over a document and it will translate it for you!
Ohh yes I think someone else mentioned that - maybe by using google lense? I’ll have a go and see what happens! Thank you xx
If you change your mind about making the pattern for the hat. I would love to test it for you.
Thank you, several people have asked how so maybe I’ll try and find some time to write it up xx
