A quick epilogue: Palmyra was a big topic in the news in 2015-16, when the terrorist group ISIS occupied the ancient ruins-long story short, they made videos of themselves destroying/defacing the monuments (including blowing up the Temple of Bel). There are plans to restore the site now. Hopefully better times are ahead for Zenobia’s beloved city!
What a wonderful learning experience, as well as a fascinating story! Xenobia is hardly mentioned in most of the popular histories of the Roman Empire - so thank you for bringing this lesser-known episode into the spotlight. Love to listen to "Wine Dark Sea" over coffee break or lunch - the stories are compelling, and the narrator has such a gift for storytelling! Loved the music on this one too.
Right? She should have the same level of fame and recognition as cleopatra, considering what she accomplished as a woman during that era… but hardly any person knows of her.
@@a.walters123Because she was Arab , her husband was Arab even though most People were Arameans . So they hide her history. Another Queen was Moawia Queen ruled Syria and fought with Romans . They hide her too. Nabeteans and Gassanids too Arabs . But their histories ignored.
My boyfriend and I have been listening to all your stories as they come out! Really enjoy the stories on this channel. Please continue the great work. We will be sure to share channel with our friends. Thanks again wine dark sea!
I say you are an excellent storyteller and its a shame you dont have more views and subs ! I say this after i run through your channel yesterday , subed and watched all 44 videos you have in less than a day . Excellent work without a doubdt ! Anticipating for more XD

Watching a roman triumph would be a very difficult sight when viewed with our modern eyes. I'd like to think she lived out her days with her glory and respect remaining but the romans weren't a forgiving bunch... ❤✌
In the Historia Augusta letters between her and Aurelian who demanded a surrender during the siege of Palmyra are recorded but many historians think that the Historia Augusta is largely fictional so their correspondence could have been fabricated
She caused her nation to go into ruin over backstabbing a treaty they had with Rome, never mind getting her husband killed, she was rightfully taken out by Emperor Aurelian. She certainly wasn't "strong"
Not all strong person, regardless of their gender, are good. In this particular case, she was a Roman citizen of senatorial order who rebelled against the imperial authority in Rome.
She was a rebelling against the direct authority from Rome itself.. She was a rebel nothing to glorify about her she took her late husband's position and betrayed the imperial order of Rome

I know. I don't get why people view 'atrocities' and 'wat crimes' today with terms such as 'inhuman'.
More human than anything, actually.
Wow! Just wow! I never knew about her until now.
I would love to hear even more stories about awesome ancient women!!
She wasn't awesome though. She was a Roman citizen of senatorial order who rebelled against the imperial authority in Rome.
Excellent. Thank you ❤️
Thank you. I love it. I’m glad your channel shows up at my feed.
A great informative video, but could have used maps, photos of ruins, and pictures depicting her and her forces.
Where did you find the conversation between Zenobia and the Roman Embassadors? i can't seem to find it
