Another good vid mark and nice to see you down my neck of the woods on the white light. Lush cod gg caught and a top blonde for your 1st shore caught, can't fault it.
I’m very jealous of the venues you have in your location and the beautiful scenery. I’ll be visiting over the winter to try out some other areas. Gigi’s a top guide and quality angler, I learnt loads over the 2 days.
It was impressive to watch him skip across those boulders and even more so carrying that cod back. There is an out-take of me falling over coming back up. 😂😜
Another good video, Mark. The Blonde gave the rod a workout, which is what you wanted and therefore you must be a happy bunny! Hope the cod is a good omen for Norway. Have a great weekend.
The rods worked faultlessly for the duration of the trip and have made up my mind that they are the rods of choice for me to go to Norway. Anyone would have been chuffed to bits to catch that cod and something like that in Norway would be amazing.
Wow watch a great watch Mark. Still not caught a Cod yet so its exciting when you see one and just encourages me more to get out there and well done on a cracking Ray.
Evening Rick, I’ve just got back from Norway where there are more cod but they still don’t jump out of the water to be caught. 😂 We have had a good run of them these past 2 years along the south coast.
Awesome video. Can't recommend Gareth enough. I've had some amazing sessions with him. Congratulations on your Blonde Ray and GG with that brute of a Cod. Cheers tight lines Paul 👍👍🎣🎣🎣🔥🔥
He is very good and although the film is edited I couldn’t show how much he does to make the session. He works tirelessly to make sure everything possible is done to support the angler. 🎣👍🏻
I’ve found your videos really useful and I believe this is your local area after seeing your films from white light. I hope to be back soon to try out some other venues. 🎣👍🏻
@@nickmann2916 I was chuffed with the blonde and it gave a good account for itself all the way in, properly gave those new rods a workout. I haven’t seen a shore caught cod landed that size before and it is my No1 target for Norway. I never thought they were possible from Wales. 🤔
The largest one I have had from the shore was 29lb and that was when I was about 20 so some time ago I think there is a picture of it at my parents I was stood in the kitchen it's mouth by my head and its tail was by my knees I will have to have a look for it
Hi Mark ,loved the latest epic with Garath in Wales, when you are in your workshop next beavering around making rigs, could you do your version of a dongle rig , then test it on the beach and give comments , Cheers Mate.
I have some test rigs already and will go something in the workshop soon. I was waiting to see how the Welsh boys use it as they have championed its use for rays.
Great video Mark and Gareth. As a guy brought up on rhossili beach Cefn Sidan beach and whitford bay ... I gotta say the Cardiff/Barry boys are out of a different mould due to the cliffs breakwaters rocky ground, clambering up cliffs and over dodgy ledges and types of fish being caught. 40m west and its all sandy shallow beaches but not off the South Glamorgan coastline. (Wasnt the british cod shore record from Barry Docks. 44lb ? ) Anyway superb video .....rediculous in a good way....who fishes a new mark and has a conger a ray and a cod. The stuff of dreams. Big Bradley from Cardiff Angling Supplies would be proud is he still around.
Sorry for the slow reply but it has been hectic. I’ve got the highest admiration for Gareth and the other Welsh anglers battling the conditions and locations they have. There are rich spoils that go with the effort though and so I will be back soon for another go, all under the watchful eye of Gareth. 🦈🎣👍🏻
i'm in Cardiff so only about 20 min away from Barry, spend many a childhood day in the fairground. Might well get in touch with Gareth as I've only been fishing for a short time so any help and info would be good.
@@jonnygilbert233 can I ask what your preferred rig, bait, species were? My first time going out and I have loads of questions but the experience will be immense.
Hi Mark, I obviously don’t know where your going in Norway but I went up in the artic circle to a town called bodo. I watched lots of stuff on here and everybody seemed to favour pennel pulley rigs and up and overs with the big floating beads so that’s what I made up before I went and as it’s known to be craggy obviously took lots of tackle with me. We where hooking into a lot of fish but I found personally we where loosing a lot of fish getting snagged and obviously loosing a lot of tackle so I had a re-think. Because the marks are so deep in my head we where essentially boat fishing from the beach so I decided to start using a basic 1 hook ledger rig bout 4 foot trace with floating beads keeping the herring head on one rod of the bottom with a 6/0 J hook and other rod same set up but 2/0 for smaller species with a strip of herring. As we where fishing along a deep granite line and there where lots of bait fish close I didn’t see the point going for distance and luckily i got it right. Had lots of good size cod, dabs and coal fish on the smaller bait. One the heads got cod high 20s and into their 30s also was lucky enough to get a halibut in the 40s and a smaller one bout 10lb. Main thing I found is keep it simple and you don’t need distance. Also got good size pollock and big coalies on lures I took bass rod with me and that was really cool and kept me busy between bites on the baits. Rods and Reels I’m more of a boat fisherman so have big fix spools on my beach rods my mates had multiplyer reels and had re-spool a few times when they lost gear but I never had to cause of the amount of line obviously on the reel, next time they are going to do same. I knocked the grip leads on the head aswell didn’t see the point in them your weight will stick itself into a spot and less chance of loosing fish n rig. Long and short of it. Next time I will not be using the expensive to make rigs just take stuff for ledger rigs. We done a fair bit of walking to the mark we found to be best too, take a rucksack to put gear in save taking heavy seat box saves the back. Also don’t know about winter but lots of mozys in June may need repelant. Hope that helps anything else let me know 👍🏽
Great video as usual. I have a little task for you that should create an interesting video. Is it possible that you could create something that shows us what our rigs look like after we have cast into the sea? We all think our little pop up beads are doing what they are supposed to but do they? Are our traces flowing nicely in the tide ? How does the pulley Penney sit? Etc
You raise an interesting point and one I can answer to a certain point without demonstration. I believe a lot of rigs tangle on recovery, they are drawn back at speed which promotes spinning. I believe this as otherwise the rigs wouldn’t catch at all and you would select another that you have more confidence in, that then catches and you stick with it. One way to reduce tangles and lay out a rig well is to draw back when it hits the water, this straightens out the rig and allows the snoods to flow. I don’t think enough sea anglers do this although it’s common in the fresh water carp scene. Correct selection of rigs for tide/conditions is key. Pulleys, up and overs, drop down, clipped and flapper all have their traits and fish differently at different states of tide. Here lies the intricacies of sea angling and its challenges. Weather, tide, air pressure, moon, season, bait, rigs, species, location are so varied it makes the challenge all the more interesting. It is after all “fishing not catching”.
I hope the weather is kind, we had both ends of the spectrum. My blonde felt like a snag at first and wouldn’t move and was very feisty all the way in. I hope you have a good trip.
@seaangling the rain I don't mind, its the wind that's causing questions at the minute. Guaranteed southerly, but one minute it's single figures, then it's up to gusting 20s which won't be fun. I'll pack the big rods then, as I think I lost a big ray the other week due to the rods

Should have seen him on the North coast rocks, he’s up and down like an Ibex. We had some cracking fish but my camera work wasn’t up to scratch really. I was enjoying the fishing/experience so much the filming took a back seat. I’ll be up again sometime soon and I’ll take the drone.
