Hi, I also happened to have both cameras, as well as the Olympus E-1 and a few other Olympus bodies too. Recently, I've been shooting a lot more with the 5D Classic and I agree with your assessments, the image quality, and the availability of cheap vintage lenses that you can adapt to it is quite amazing; but I'm still keeping my Olympus cameras very close though, the Kodak sensors are really very special. Nice video. Cheers!
Ye many similar thoughts here. I got a E-1 and 5d and currently shooting 5d more. As you said, bcs of full-frame and lenses adaptability. One of the things I wanted from 5d was much better viewfinder, but not so many ppl talk about how small and dim the info in 5d viewfinder is. E-1 has huge and bright letters. So little disappointment on this front. Handling of E-1 is also miles better for me. 5d feels like confused person in comparison to me. All in all, 5d is fantastic as we all know. Which one would I choose, hmmm. I'll say if E-1 had 10 megapixels, I'll take E-1 all day every day. Doesn't even need to be full-frame. Edit: I just picked E-1 for a few shots and hey, it might be a winner even without the megapixels, lol. It just hold those beautiful colors and dreamy renders too well. For low light, 5d.
I've got the Olympus E-500 and really enjoy it. But ya... lenses are hard to find. I'm trying to get something other than a kit lens or some old Zuiko glass. Now that I saw this video I'm reminded to pick it up and use it more often. Great channel!
Good to hear that you like the 35mm macro. I just found a E-450 kit that had that and the kit lens for 70€. The 35mm will go on my E-1 and the rest i will probably get rid of
I'd really like to see a comparison of the Oly E-5 and the 5D... being similar in terms of Mp and target market. I've got an E-5 - it's a bulletproof thing with >118k clicks and great in the hand. I'd say that the AF on it (like you found with the 500) sometimes leaves me scratching my head, but for what i shoot with it it's not often a problem. And, of course, while you emphasised vintage glass on the Canon, the 4/3 mount will take pretty much anything and the crop cuts out the fall-off in quality that most vintage glass has at the edges. I often shoot the E-5 (and E-1 and E-300) with Takumar primes and use the native zooms - 7-14, 12-60, 14-54, 50-200. The E-300, which i guess has the same sensor as the E-500(?), really works well with the Taks, to my eye at least: 'filmic'. And, obviously, if you're shooting vintage glass on them - or on the Canon - AF quality is irrelevant.
Thank you for such a well thought out comment 🙏 totally agree with what you said. Hopefully one day a E5 or E1 pops up for cheap 👏 I love Takumar glass 👌 I’ll have to try them on the olympus
@@shutterslaps4938 I find manual focus for vintage glass on my E-300 really hard because the OVF is horrible (i think), but when i get it right i really like the results that 8Mp CCD gives. And the screen on the 300 is rubbish for anything but the menu (so it's no help). The 500 (or 400) would probably give way better results. That good old Canon glass on the 500??
I just got the e500 off ebay that came with a 14-45 kit lens. I don't know but I'm not seeing the magical ccd colors that people are raving about. Don't know if it's the lens but the images coming out are meh and I don't see that pop that everyone's talking about. The 5D classic shoots such sharp and really pleasing images. Maybe I need to get another lens for the e500.
I’ve got that same kit lens and yeah I don’t use it. Doesn’t do anything for me… the 35mm prime is nice… for me I can see the warmth and tones on the E500, and maybe your right, it could be in the lens as well… let me know how you go
@@shutterslaps4938 I just made a bid on the 35mm prime, so we'll see how it goes. I was looking for that same feeling when I first shot my 5D. It was an instant woah, and I have much newer mirrorless cameras but man it blew me away immediately. I was looking for the same feeling and I didn't get it. Good news is the e500 was cheap.
I have an e500 and was tempted to buy a second one. The 14-54 f2.8-3.5 lives on it full time. I got the body with 2 lenses for $80, and the 14-54 for $100. I leave the autofocus on AF-S + MF, with the center dot as the af point. I wish the VF had more magnification so I can manually focus easier. I'm tempted to get an adapter cheap to mess with this camera with some Minolta lenses I have.
Still using 5d mk1 and still amazed that on ISO 1600 the noise is not an issue, so natural look and picture is great
Love how you set up your backgrounds!! 👏

Have both, Happy life, lol. And with finepix s3 Pro. Man, my life is completed. Oh, I forgot D700, Looking forward to own that too.
Another great video!
Love both of these. I am carrying the E500 more along with the small 25mm due to size and also that flash is fun for parties and gives a great look.

Brilliant video Slaps! Definitely, the Olympus! Bold colours! Thanks for sharing!

I use both and do prefer colors off the Olympus, but AF on the E-500 is atrociously bad!
You have good lenses.

Chose the e-500
