Welcome Kerala
Always good to know another good music instrument and another great artist ...
History And Origin Of Daf: The earliest evidence of the dap (daf) dates back to Sassanid Iran. The Pahlavi (an ancient Iranian language) name of the daf is dap. The word daf is therefore the Arabicized form of the word dap. Some pictures of dap have been found in paintings that date before the Common Era. The presence of Iranian dap in the reliefs of Behistun suggests the daf Existed Before The Rise OF Islam. Dafs were part of religious music in Iran much before Sufism. Iranian music has always been a spiritual tool. It shows that dafs played an important role in Mazdean Iran emerging as an important element during the Sassanian times during the Kâvusakân dynasty. Also there is a kind of square frame drum in the stonecutting of Taq-e Bostan (another famous monument located 5 km (3 mi) northeast of Kermanshah city): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daf
Sounds like Indian words
@@purushothamrajunannayabatt6236 they have both sanscrit rooths, but if you listen to afghanistan farsi you notice the sanscriti in it like hindi. tehrani farsi is sure mixed with much more arabic therefor you have hard time relating the farsi tehranis talk with hindi.
In telugu(a dravidiyan Indian language).. It is called as dappu or dapp
the letter doesn't exist in arabic, so they turned dap to daf, or dab.
A wonderful video. Teaching and playing expertise that is clear and inspiring.
Outstanding instrument...... you played..... very beautifully.

What an awesome comment. My mom just flew back into CA from Iran and brought one with her, and I'm eagerly learning everything I can from RUclips. There is so much value in preservation of culture.
When I hold the rim of the daf up to my ear and move it slightly, the sounds the chains make are like the ocean.

Very interesting. Your video was recommended because I watch Sami Yusuf. Thank you for spreading your knowledge. Much love. xx
Dear mam ,you seem to have a great interest in knowing other's culture. I see a lot of your comments in relation with different cultures.
@@bulu9214 Yes, other cultures can bring you new knowledge. My name means universal. Your name is a hidden hint of who you are. For me every person is special, but at the same time not more special than another person. People who you meet are in your life to evolve your soul. Spread your knowledge and you might bring someone on their right path. Much love.
@@irmabronder Can you do a favor to me?
You seem to have learnt a lot of things. I am also a seeker of knowledge . Can you provid me some videos or channels link that you think other people should know too?
At least one channel that you think everyone should watch.
Thank you. I will appreciate a lot.
@@irmabronder You said every person is special for you but no more special than others. So to you is Hitler as special as let's say Gandhi or Buddha? Because you said every person is special for you but not more special than others.
@@bulu9214 Everyone knows who has or had good and bad influences on our civilization. I do not think I have to explain to you who was bad and who was good. Everyone knows. In every country, religion or culture there are bad and good people. It is every single person who has the opportunity to show good. And be an example for the rest. I have no idea why you are putting this example down. But I think you need to focus on more positive influences and leave the bad influences in a box. Much love.
Good explanation great job

This is great! I just bought a 22 inch frame drum and have been loving learning from this goddess of the drums! I first witnessed her playing Tonbak -- it's also a very "spiritual" drum, and it sounds amazing in duet with the frame drum.
