I’ve been binge watching nurses videos today and I’m trying to figure out what kind of nurse I would like to be. I love the chatty video and this was really informative. 💕 new subscriber here!
Im in nursing school right now (currently 12:27 am and im supposed to be studying for my med surg exam lol) but postpartum is where I really would like to go into. Thanks for filming this as insight!!
Thank you for all of that info! I am a cardiac nurse going into a dayshift MBU for a busy Woman's Hospital seeking to get a feel of what shifts are typically like. 🥰. You are awesome!
hey! i’m a new grad looking to work in postpartum.. i’ve been applying everywhere and just keeping my options open! i stumbled across your video and decided to subscribe to your channel! thank you for sharing!
New subscriber here!! I’m so glad I found you! I have been a peds nurse for 2 years now. I am finally transitioning into mother/baby nursing 😄 I am so happy and your video makes me even more excited to join this side of nursing.
It’s amazing how different hospitals do things. We the RN do PKU , CCHD, and TCB ( Transcutaneous bilirubin test- no heelstick needed unless our reading is over 10) Aides do moms Vital signs , our baths and we have hearing screeners doing the hearing test. I agree I do fundal check right when LD nurse is right there. Do you our guys keep the phototherapy babies rooming in? Cause that means bili serums ( nurses do those as well lol) and those babies can be tough if they are restless.
Yes, I agree that it is so amazing to know how different hospitals do things differently. phototherapy babies stay with mom unless the interventions aren’t working then they would go to nicu.
It’s nice to see how it works in other states. At my hospital we have no help. Zero. Nurses are in charge of all the labs and tasks. And sometimes you can have 5 couplets 😬😬
Hey! I am a new grad RN as well, I work Med Sure but I am looking to switch to a new specialty, thankful for this video so I can know the differences between PP and L+D...Thank you! I am also a youtuber and have about the same subscribers as you! Looking forward to supporting you as we grow, loved this video.
Hey!!! I graduated in May and started my job in mother/baby in September. My advice would be apply wherever you can around you. I’m from Houston so I applied to places all around the greater Houston area and ended up at a hospital in a smaller city outside of Houston! Give yourself plenty of options. Don’t limit yourself and be willing to work wherever you get an offer :-)
I love your videos! I just accepted a new grad position in a postpartum unit. Are there any reading materials you found helpful before you started working?
I’m a nursing student and want to start on a postpartum floor as a new grad. This sounds so busy, you only get a 30 min break?? Aren’t night 12s supposed to have 2 hr breaks
Typically no matter the shift you only get a 30 minute lunch break. Each hospital is different but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hospital given 2 hour long breaks.
What she said ^^ Basically some hospitals have a combined floor where mom & baby stay in the same room their entire stay but we have a separate postpartum floor which is where the moms and babies go after delivery. We focus a lot more on breastfeeding and education where labor focuses on the birth and labor!
Amanda Lynn thank you so much for replying back !! This fall I will be going to school for nursing and I know for shore I want to work with mom/baby but idk what areas . 😀
she sounds like an awesome nurse! postpartum is where alot of mortality is prevented due to bleeds and or infant decline so having the same patient all the time will make Amanda an expert and be in a position to identify a critical change you can't because you randomly see various populations.

M Davis yay! Welcome & thanks for subscribing 💕 hope you enjoy postpartum 😊
I have been a nurse for 9 years, mostly med surg. I just started training to be a postpartum nurse this week. This video sounds very accurate so far ❤
That’s awesome! Welcome to mom & baby world 😊
Thank you! I'm so excited!
how are your post partum admissions? can you do a full video on that?

Oh dang that is unfortunate! I’m very grateful for my hospital!

Nothing related to postpartum but i read the book “Oh Sh*t I almost killed you” which is basically for new grad nurses and that was super helpful!
This might be a dumb question but do the postpartum nurses see the mums with no cloths? And if yes who doesn't that still help look after baby?
How do you like nursing? I am considering it as a career!
Sounds like a busy night
Makes the night go by faster! :)
Male nurse.any tips for the guys? . starting in 2 weeks. I'm excited though
I'm from Wisconsin and I am 14 and I think I really want to do this. Any tips for school???

Is it hard to get into postpartum as a new grad?
viviana guillen it depends on the hospital! it’s easier to get into postpartum than labor & delivery.
And what time to what time do you sleep ?
I usually get home around 8 am and sleep from 9am-5pm
do you have your adn or bsn
Mercedes Gonzalez BSN
How long does report usually take ?
Usually 15-30 minutes
Just wondering -- Do you wear your engagement ring at work?
H Chan I do, but I know some hospitals have restrictions on that. I also have a silicon ring that I wear sometimes too 😊
yall like having the same patients over and over? ER can't relate lol
